I like searcher's mom's 'least said, soonest mended' adage. So change of seat is the best option.
Of course, it is not a social norm in witness world to let a woman sit on the aisle seat (so VERY silly, and also often impractical, since a mom gets up more often to nurse a baby, etc.). If giving her the aisle seat feels emasculating to you, have her sit by the wall, and you the second seat from the wall.

What happened to the page summaries in NWT?
by jws ini was recently discussing the real 10 commandments in ex 34. as i recall the old nwt had topic summaries at the top of each page.
theoretically to summarize the page and help you find things.
i've seen other bibles do this too.

Well, it fits in with jw philosophy of never considering the context. Pulling a scripture here, a scripture there, without considering overall theme of the page is so effective for proving weird stuff! -

Well another one leaves the Borg.
by John Aquila ini took a quick trip to the store and i happened to see a young man (about 26-28 years old) who got baptized about the same time i was leaving- about 2 years ago.
a couple of pioneer sisters found him in the door to door work.
one of them, a very attractive girl.

Lol, yes shopaholic...she'll be like,'he tempted me to take trips with him, but my godly conscience wouldn't allow me to do that. And then do you know what he did? He LEFT THE TRUTH. What a blessing I was tested and rejected him, or I would have married a worldly person in disguise! Now I can live my days giving my full attention and time to jehovahs kingdom and service' yada yada yada... -

Genesis as a Parable
by FusionTheism injesus always spoke to the crowds using parables.
in fact, the bible says jesus would never speak to the crowds without using parables.. a parable is a fictional story that is used to teach deep moral and spiritual truths.. the scriptures say:.
matthew 13:34-35 (niv):jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.

Real church on Sunday mornings with real music, and donuts and coffee after.
Like nic said, no midweek dread that it's a meeting night. Ugh, it's Tuesday. Ugh, it's Thursday. And then ugh, it's Saturday. How dare they have taken all my Saturdays.
Now I do stuff I want to do. My 'ughs' are rare.
Christmas!! And then when it's over, saying '364 days till next christmas!'

You have not sinned against the Holy Spirit, please be assured of that. You have been given a very twisted belief system, and taught things that are from MAN not God. You have not done anything unforgiveable!! You are loved. You are human. Given your upbringing, or really, anyone's, God knows the challenges you have had to face. What you have done is just survival and the result of human imperfection. You have had enough cruelty in your life, you don't need to be cruel to yourself too. Please start loving yourself. You can move on from this. I know it feels so hopeless. If you want spiritual councelling please walk into another church and ask for help. Tell them what you have said here.

What's worse, brutal murder or fornication?
by Tornintwo injust to give you a bit of background, i've been researching my doubts for over a month, i'm convinced that although they may have some things right, they have a lot of other things horribly wrong.
i'm still clinging to a faith in god, because i see a creator's hand in nature, and i believe in jesus and his teachings, love, mercy, compassion.....that if everyone truly applied these (including jws) then all would benefit.. but i read this article in march and it's been on my mind ever since.
where isis stone a young couple to death for sex before marriage (a bit graphic).. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3017800/sickening-images-blindfolded-bound-couple-brutally-stoned-death-fornication-isis-militants-iraq.html.

I think sex before marriage was like marrying someone in the OT...memory may be fuzzy since reading Leviticus, but the consequence of sex before marriage was you get married. This is not to say I think that was perfect...as many have said here, if it was rape, the criminal had to marry the victim. What if the victim didn't freaking want to? Maybe no one would have married her in that culture after she was raped, but maybe she would prefer that, did anyone ask?? Like job and Abraham and Thomas and Jacob, it's ok to wrestle with God. We don't have to agree with everything and question or doubt nothing. I've got many issues with God but I also have faith and I'm sticking with him and maybe he'll give me answers in this life, maybe the next...it's just nice to be free to have my own opinions and not have to take the Bible completely literally, all or nothing anymore. -

Everything seems to be changing... why not birthdays?
by StarTrekAngel inif we look at all doctrines, we see an overall effort to conserve unity and control.
- assuming most birthdays, if allowed, would probably be oriented to children, then that means 40 celebrations per year.
so all in all, this give a total potential attendance to a birthday of 30 families (120 attendance / 4 family members).

I think LQ is probably right.
And I think the birthday ban started because GOD FORBID any witness child should ever feel special one day out of the year. That would be worldly and we are no part of the world. Jehovah, and the GB by extension, are the only ones that ever deserve to feel special...
