So happy for you and your daughter and your friends, too! You guys will always have eacother, no matter what happens, and they will always understand all the weirdness that comes with being a part of that cult, and leaving it. -

How many here (believers) believe in the Hell fire doctrine and why??
by jam init's obvious the bible is very clear on a actual hell of fire.
"cursed into the eternal fire with the devil and his angels", rev.20:15.
"lake of fire", rev.21:8 "fire and brimstone".

My church speaks of hell as simply a 'separation from God.' Personally I don't know what it is or how literally the references to fiery hell in the bible should be taken. Im not worried about it and i believe God is merciful. For me, those who call down judgment to hell on others are just as guilty of sin, by their self righteousness, as whoever they are judging. -

12 signs you are a modern day Pharisee
by Zoos ini was reading through this list and was struck by how accurately it describes the watchtower royalty class.
not exactly a professional doing the writing but i think he captures it pretty well.. http://frankpowell.me/12-signs-you-are-modern-day-pharisee.

But especially jw's, believer. You could say the above things about a few people from many faiths. However you could say the above things about the whole of the JW faith, from the top down. It IS their belief system and these things are not discouraged but encouraged and common practice. -

1. Beth Sarim. That jw's could be taught all about JW history so selectively, and leave out this major story that was even published in LIFE magazine, with a picture of Rutherford in his mansion, which he was 'safekeeping' for the prophets who were supposedly going to be resurrected (in 1925?). 2. That the history of their 1914 doctrine is so twisted by themselves, hiding the very embarrassing details, including how Russel substantiated the evidence by counting the feet of the passages inside the Great Pyramid. 3.That people hurt by watchtower rules and doctrine were not only in my own congregation, but prevalently throughout the world, and much worse, and that families are being torn apart on a global scale, every day, resulting in one resounding unified cry of heartache as a result of associating with JW's. 4. That 607 wasnt when Babylon was destroyed, but the watchtower can't update their incorrect date because it undermines their whole schpeil. 5. That JW's are a cult. Cult cult culty cult C-U-L-T CULT!
And one for extra credit!6. Miracle wheat! -

Outsider looking in, excellent points!! This is what i try to say many times here to people who still believe in God but feel lost...but you said it so much more eloquently. The steps you listed were exactly what helped in my search.. Except instead of walking in to churches I shopped around online and chose carefully. Walked in to the one I chose and have been happy there for several years now. What I tried to express in a PM to former brother was that different denominations might appeal to what personally is our passion...mine is helping others, and I lean liberal, so I found a good fit for me. But a church that is conservative might be good for someone else. They are not different paths leading to God...they are the same path, and Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and we all share this in common with small variations which aren't so important. Vanderhoven makes an important point: if they claim they are the only true church, dont walk, but RUN outta there!!! -

The pyramids and rutherford.......
by atomant inlve been researching the early days of the jw"s and found some very damning information which needs to be discussed at length.according to my research it is claimed that early founders used the pyramids to work out important biblical dates that are now dates set in stone according to the beliefs of the sect and can not be changed as it would rock the very foundation upon which their beliefs are built.l was hoping for somone with a precise understanding to please elaborate whether this is true or not.

And remember, Rutherford was no more logical, believing the great prophets would be resurrected and need somewhere to live, and purchasing a mansion in southern California, occupying it for them until their arrival! Maybe not logical, but how convenient for him. -

Stepping out of the shadows
by contramundum ini have been lurking on the site for a few months and thought it about time i plucked up the courage to step out of the shadows and say hello.. i am in the process of fading after realizing all is not right with the organization i had trusted implicitly for over 40 years.
there have always been 'truths' i have struggled to accept entirely, even as a child, but was confident that trusting in jehovah, building my faith and remaining patient would be enough to settle any nagging doubts that remained, so i pushed any inconsistencies to the back of my mind and concentrated on being the best witness that i could be.. over the last few years, however, i have been preoccupied with a number of crises in my family and stepping back slightly from 'theocratic' activity has allowed me to re evaluate a number of concerns and research sources other than the sanitized wt publications.. my eyes are now wide open - i found things which have appalled me and left me feeling extremely let down and disappointed by people i had really trusted.. i tried gently raising a few subjects with my mum (who was baptized early '70s and still remains a staunch wt supporter) but she will hear no criticism of the organization.
i understand this because the best part of her life has been invested in the religion and to acknowledge it may have got things wrong would be to recognize the last 40 years have been a vain waste.

Welcome honey. Lately it seems like only those really determined to stay ignorant are staying in!! Seeing so many first time posters. Fade very slowly, dropping one more meeting each month. They will come to expect it of you and maybe not give it a second thought if you do it right.
