It's OK to be different! What if everyone in this world were the same? Had the same experiences growing up, the same strengths and weaknesses? The same cookie cutter lives? God, how boring. It's not the way the real world is. We are all different. And the way you are different is actually a compliment. You ran away from an oppressive environment at 16 years old! You were so courageous! Be courageous now. No, don't run away again. Own your own courage from the past. There isn't a worldly person you could tell who is not going to like you because of this. It makes you deeper and more interesting, what you have been through. Definitely don't be angry with your partner for saying this. It's time to grow up and reflect on your past and what you have accomplished. Yes you need therapy. And to start being honest with yourself and open up to other people. What exactly are you afraid of?

Chronic relapse - what do I do?
by wayoutthere inmy first post here and unfortunately it is asking for help.. i was a born in jehovah's witness and from my earliest memories, i know i hated being one.
i hated the embarrassment of being the "outsider" at school and i hated not being allowed to have any friends.
of course i had the obligatory friends in the kingdom hall - none of whom were my age exactly and none of whom i would have personally chosen to be friends with if i had been left to pick them myself in a natural setting.

Conan I just want to say welcome. It seems like they told you some misinformation, the friends of yours. I dont doubt they have been good friends to you. But what they told you is incorrect. They DO believe they are the absolute only answer for what is truth,, what they say is IT and if you dont agree you will be kicked out. And they do encourage research, but they only are allowed to use their own materials for research. They call this 'personal study' but do not allow you to look at outside information. After being a witness for many years I started doing outside research and felt compelled to leave the witnesses, and now I am very happy in a traditional church. -

also, some internet forums have the option to show if a user is currently logged in or not.

by pleaseresearch inwhen i speak to my mum about things, she says why do you keep looking on the internet and news etc... why don't you just live your life and forget what you learned growing up.. maybe i was so so indoctrinated as a child that even though i have woken up and learnt ttatt, i still need to keep up to date with new findings from ex and fellow brothers and sisters.
listening to their testimony about why they left.. this was to me and all of you i'm sure, the truth.
so to finally wake up is absolutely massive.

PR, I think this is all still kind of new for you. Even if you know the truth about the truth, it takes 2 or 3 years for the FOG to lift. Especially the 'fear' and 'guilt.' Some people who never heed the advice of your alias, and don't do the research, keep having FOG loom over them for DECADES. So be happy you have done the research, and keep coming here and doing research until you have conquered your FOG. It WILL lift, the more research you do. Because the so called 'truth' doesn't stand up to research, actually, research just makes 'the truth' look darned silly, and fear and guilt quickly dissipates when you see the full silliness. Then, when the FOG lifts, you might want to keep coming here for other reasons, but it will feel different. Your perspective on the religion will become clearer with time. You can offer support to people who are desperate and alone. You can be one of us who shows them yes, there is life after the Borg. And it's far happier!! -

Gossiping

we talked about a variety of subjects, just had a laugh & drunk wine & beer.
this morning my husband & i were talking about how nice it was, how free we felt with our opinions.

Well I agree, I think they gossip because acceptable subjects of conversation are limited...but I also think they gossip because they're frustrated. These are people who were never allowed to live up to their potential, or follow the natural direction they were supposed to take in life. They are bitter, and stuck, and listless. -

How did you feel when they eliminated the Con. Book Study?

I thought it was the stupidest thing they could do. Book studies were the only way people ever really got close to other people. If you talk to people at the kingdom Hall, it was most likely people who were in your book study or had once been in your book study. What do people do now?? They leave easier than they used to!! Cuz they aren't getting as close to other people! Less familial feelings, less pressure to stay if there are fewer that you really care about.I agree the Isaiah books were simply hell. 1919. 1919. 1919. Thought i was gonna scream. With most books, it was drudgery for sure and the best part was when bookstudy was OVER but when it was over it was nice.
