I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

That's a good point OTWO, focus on the interpretation of the generation teaching oh so conveniently changing so that they could keep their prophecy alive, just in time, every time they changed it. Anyone could observe this, you didn't have to be an apostate to see what they were doing. -

The memorial may have been requested by that guy who studied with him. They might treat it like someone who doesn't have family. I bet they will throw in extra time for personal stuff because he was famous, the double standard will continue. They will still look like idiots tho, no doubt.
Regarding the paternity claims, some of them have to be true, the guy certainly got around.

BW you were so very brave.
It will be tough to stick to only 'non apostate' knowledge in sharing your 'doubts' to your father. How can you talk about the earlier dates before 1914, if witnesses cover over them and only apostates know that stuff these days? This is tricky. Sending you a PM.

What I liked, and the only things I liked, about being a witness don't exist anymore.
1. The pink songbook
2. The danishes at the DC.
3. The half frozen pudding! I actually loved that and have tried to replicate that same effect at home :).
4. The witness friends I grew up with. Yes, they left too. Which is awesome cuz now we are still friends.

My brother died last night
by LisaRose ini found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.
there were six of us, now only four.

If he's anything like you, it is a terrible, terrible loss, and I am very sorry. -

I do understand how alone you feel. And you've already made your parents thrilled with you for saying yes, saving your father's face as an elder. You have two choices. Both are hard. I hate that religion for making these the only choices for amazing young people like yourself.
1. Get baptized. Further succomb to all sorts of pressure to live up to your baptism. Service hours, pioneering, seeking a worthy spiritual person to marry. If you meet someone not a witness who you start falling in love with, forget it. Until you can move far away, slack off, and slowly break your parents pride and hearts. You may never be free, if you move somewhere where someone knows someone from your area. The witness world is a small one. You will always be worried.
2. Tell your parents you are so sorry, but you wanted to make them happy and say yes you would get baptized this summer, but the truth is you are NOTready. I really like DOC's suggestions (except the getting drunk one :)) about telling your parents your 'doubts.' Heck yes they will be disappointed, but why let this religion control your whole life, forever? Share your doubts head on, without implicating or admitting any apostate sources. Make them have to answer the tough questions.
I think you must be referring to an incident where you got in trouble and it caused a big ruckus and confrontation and it left s very bad taste in your mouth and unwillingness to cause any trouble. But you can speak to them not as a child but as a student, no shouting involved maybe. And if your father does lose it, ask him if that is what he thinks is correct..shouting, coercing a baptism into someone. Through everything be sympathetic to their viewpoint and their own experience. But it is NOT too late.

Had a weird love-bombing throwback today......
by dubstepped inmy wife is having her first birthday party in july, and we're looking for a place to hold it.
we found an episcopal church online that offered their fellowship hall for such occasions, and we went to check it out this morning.
when we arrived they were having something in the hall and were setting up for it.

Dubstepped I think I would adore your family in real life!
Yeah, don't worry...churches rent out their halls all the time and seriously Episcopalians are lovely people. I've met a lot and haven't met a nasty one yet :). They probably aren't desperate for you to join their church and wouldn't expect it. I've been to many events at Episcopal churches, they are especially open to renting out their facilities.
My church gives outsider memorials and large group meetings non church related as well. There is a nice bee keepers monthly meeting for example. We are really friendly to these people but with no expectations. Don't be freaked out!

Why is Mother's Day wrong?
by stuckinarut2 inso why is celebrating mother's day wrong according to witnesses?.
is it not an opportunity to show respect to the giver of life (mother) and therefore god, the originator of families?.
does it not give an opportunity for members of the family to give a hard working mother a day off?
-

It's not in the least wrong. Like reasons for not celebrating many other special days, the WT is jealous of anyone else getting attention. And they don't really want anyone to be a mother. Taking care of a baby takes away SO much possible serve-us time!!
