One hope for ALL christians - interesting video on heavenly hope
by paradisebeauty inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n7qe6fqac4.
a short video with proof from the bible that the ones going to "heaven" are not meant to stay there forever, but just to meet jesus there (at the rapture) and be with him forever, on earth, not in heaven!.

Clambake, paradise beauty is just exploring other religious ideas. Please don't be rude to her. She's not trying to convert you. She's putting ideas up for discussion. She's not a member of that group, she's a witness who wants to get out, or at least make peace with having to stay in for a while. -

Where Is The Jehovah's Witness Zeal?
by minimus init seems to me that the religion is nearly dead.
or dying.
very little pulse exists for the organization.

Good point, magnum and ding. The religion was based on looking forward to some set date, when that didn't happen, they would set a new one. Now that 2014 has passed and there is this silly overlapping generation thing that no one really believes, there is no DATE to look forward to anymore. What is a superficial legalistic religion to do?? Fizzle. -

by goingthruthemotions inyep, the cult fest is upon us....3 days of my life i will not get back....ughhhhhhhh.

almost like a glazed over look with a side of guilt and a side of narrow mindedness.

I feel really bad for you guys who have to go to conventions with your mates. 3 days of your life completely gone, spent doing what you don't want to do. And what is your reward?? A mate more brainwashed and insufferable than before.

Single Sisters
by BashfulAshG inam i the only one who has single, desperate sisters in the congregation?
they tend to be holier-than-thou, frumpty, but in private talk about getting married.
but they don't understand why no brother will look at them.

Well, it IS a religion completely about appearances, after all. How many hours are turned in, how often hands are up. It makes sense so much effort goes into appearances. -

Funnily enough, anytime I wear one of my old Kingdom Hall outfits to church on Sunday, I feel like I'm making a big show of myself. I was one of those pencil skirt, heel wearing sisters, and it was definitely normal where I was. There are plenty of young pretty women in my church, who wear attractive clothes and makeup, but there isn't the same women as objects mentality. What did a witness girl have, except for her appearance?? You were going to find the best husband you could by playing up your appearance as much as possible, because a good brother to marry was SO rare, and marriage was the only way you could ever 'move up' in that org. I didn't marry for stature, but for love. But even after I had lots of kids I made myself wear heels and dressed sexy for conventions cuz I wanted the attention of my husband and didn't want to feel bad compared to other sisters strutting their stuff there. So superficial, I know! But i couldn't help it. So now in my church, women can wear pants and dress sexier (no hemline rules) and whatever, but nobody, ever, walks down the aisle strutting around the way sisters in the KH used to. It's a whole different mentality and I can't really explain it. -

Strange Moment During The 2015 Regional Convention
by JW_Rogue inhi, i'm new here but hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.
during the "imitate jesus" rc there was a strange moment where they played a video of a brother trying to explain the 1914 teaching.
the brother quickly goes through all the scriptural "proofs" and the householder is dumbfounded.

They have to drop either '1914' or 'generation.'
If they keep 1914 they will soon simply stop highlighting the generation scripture.
If the religion goes on for another several decades, they will stop mentioning 1914 as well.

Why must sisters wear skirts?
by purrpurr inand or dresses?
just what is wrong with a smart pair of trousers?
i'm sure that the women would not start behaving like men or imagining that they have a dick!.
-

Because everyone is repressed and has dirty minds and they wouldnt be able to handle the definition that pants bring.
Sure, Hillary Clinton and Angela merkel can do it and nobody thinks anything about it. Bankers, real estate agents, female ceo's do it. Female pastors do it.
Like well trimmed beards, perfectly acceptable in todays society, and even the most upstanding citizens can have them, women in dress pants is still a ways a way for such a backwards religion as the jw's.

I don't think we need to speculate on the details. But I agree there is one hope. Heaven first, then earth. An earthly hope is not unique to witnesses, it is in the theology of most protestant religions, they just talk about it rarely. -

Born Ins Vs Converts
by JW_Rogue indid you ever feel like born ins were looked at differently than those that were converted?
i always felt that there was a level of suspicion around those "raised in the truth".
that we were always suspected of being jws to make our family happy.

D4g, so true.
being a born in, when you are a naturally independent thinker and free spirit, SUCKS. Especially if your parents are good strong witnesses. I want a real childhood.

Charity
by aintenoughwiskey inwe know the wt interpretation of matt 25:40 is support of the anointed.
since most of us here are no longer in that situation, what, if any forms of charity are you involved in?
sorry for the awkward framing of the question, it's not meant to imply atheists, or non-christians are not charitable!

Smiddy, like I said, when we were witnesses I used to donate to mostly animal shelters (I would get begging letters every single day in the mail).... also public radio. Actually if I hadn't been an avid listener of public radio the last 25 years, I might still be a witness! (a half believing witness), ugh, what a pain that would be. Worrying about my kids not following 'the truth.' So glad those tumultuous changes happened, and we are out!
