it was weird to hear it from my brother (an actual sibling brother, hehe) that an old man in their congregation, who was an elder as long as i knew him.

and a very kind, sweet, funny man, was disfellowshipped.

i am trying to figure out why.

I do not think it would have been because of the usual reasons (affair, smoking, what have you) because of the type of guy he is (but of course, we never really KNOW someone). Then I was thinking, maybe it was apostacy?

I was thinking how great that would be, a former elder..maybe his conscience got to him and he just had to leave?

Well then my brother informs me that he is "on the road to recovery" BS. Well that sucks now, it couldn't have been apostacy. After knowing the truth about "the troof", why would one go back?

So I am just confused.

what experience at an assembly or convention caused you to raise your eyebrows in disbelief?.

one that comes to mind is a 5 year old conducting several bible studies.

wasn't it hard enough for an adult to get a bible study?

I just hated the dramas in general, only the ones that were the modern day settings-with the families.

I HATED THEIR PORTRAYAL OF FAMILIES! aargh! I mean, they made it out like every family acted like this Brady Bunch mutants and that was NORMAL???

oh jeeze.

The site is stupid.

The US is supposed to be a democratic (democratic republic?) nation. We also have a freedom of speech. Put those together and idealy, we have an opporitunity to not only see things that are wrong and unjust in our nation...but have to opporitunity to change it! This country (the US) and others like it are wonderful in that reguard...but certainly not expemt from imperfection because of it. There ARE a lot of problems going on right now that need to be changed, and there are freedoms of ours that are at risk of being infringed up on. If enough people voice their thoughts, they are not hating the country...they are showing enough consideration and care for it and see the things that need to change to make it better.

i admit i have never voted (shame), the last couple of years i have decided to vote but when the time comes i back out.

i like having the freedom to choose whether to vote or not but i never know who to vote on the day that counts and then i feel uncomfortable at the last minute.. how about you?

I am 21 years old, I wish I voted in the last presidential election, but I was still a little scared.

Well, just a couple days ago, I printed off my registration application and am mailing it out tomorrow as a registered democrat!

I am very excited.

I have always been interested in politics, and felt guilty that I had such strong opinions but did not excersize my most basic right in a democratic nation-voting. Well I am doing that this time!

what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?

we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.

for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

in perusing the postings here in the "friends" section, i notice how many of us are still hashing over and rehashing the evils of the organization we were a part of, and how it hurt us, etc.

i got kinda down reading it.

I am here to find support. What has happened in my life has affected my deeply. My family being ripped away from me is a big thing, and until they talk to me again, I do not think I could ever just "get over it". I come here because it is good to learn more about just why I made a good decision in leaving the borg, in addition to knowing I am not alone.

I try not to dwell in the past, however, and realize that now that my decision is made, I would be abusing that by not moving foward and becomming complete in my life. I am so proud of myself, that I am going to college and making/meeting new and wonderful people. I am happy to be able to explore my lifestyle without the guilt that the borg has and would push on me when it is completely unsubstantiated.

my mom isn't returning my calls anymore... and i havn't heard from my sisters and nephews in a few months :(.

but, all is well, you see...classes start up again in less than 2 weeks.

i filled my schedule, and i have 3 classes with my 3 favorite professors.

BUT, all is well, you see...classes start up again in less than 2 weeks. I filled my schedule, and I have 3 classes with my 3 favorite professors. One of whome, I have a slight crush on...shes so perty and smart. I was supposed to go to Austria with her, like for a class trip, but that fell through. Oh Well.

I am just so happy to be in college, this is my third year, and I plan on getting my masters in addition to my bachelors. I love how the society is against higher education (are they still?). Getting an education enlightened me, and that is what gave me the strength to walk away and not look back...no wonder they hate it.

My favorite class was my new media class with the professor (Joline) that I have a crush on. She would put a lot of her philosophy into her art, things like feminism, and gender philosophies.

Did anyone here have a class or philosophy or enlightenment that helped them get over "the troof"?

I have it from really good authority (a librarian friend) that libraries will try VERY VERY hard and fight tooth and nail to never band books. I do not see any of these books on this list getting banned any time soon, so don't worry.

little depressed...

i need to vent, and what better place to vent?.

i can not get over the fact that my well-adjusted life, where i am happy, and to me, doing the right things, will always be seen as immoral by my family members and former friends.

the recent email exchange (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/56683/1.ashx <---yay drama) between myself and an ex best friend just makes these feelings come rushing back.

Ravyn: Fortunately, I have a great resource in my life to use, I currently attend a great university full time, in addition to part time work, and hopefully an additional job soon to get me through college. I have been able to hang out with new friends, go to parties and clubs without a "are they watching me?" feeling. My mom and dad actually would have people spy on me! Not anymore...This year, I am more determined than ever to make more friends and build relationships all the while, becomming educated and indepenant...and I realize that no Jehovahs Witness could do the same, and that I could not achieve that if I fell back into that trap.
