my husband lost his father last saturday.
the funeral was tuesday in a catholic church and he would not go to the service.
he stayed outside while his children were inside.
Tiffy
I'm very sorry for your loss. Your husband is certainly another brain-washed individual. I lost my dad (he was a catholic) last year and my brother (a JW) came to the crematorium for the service. We arranged for a catholic priest to do the "sermon", which he did very well. It was comforting for my Mum (also Catholic) BUT - then my brother got up and gave "an elder's talk" and completely contradicted everything that the priest had said!!!! No doubt he counted the time! They just don't care about the effect their actions have on others, do they.

ive recently been looking at a non-jw tract this was an interesting paragraph.
watchtower 1st 1954 page 31. there we read "jehovahs witnesses are proud of the fact that they have eliminated from their song books, songs praising jesus (revelation, its grand climax at hand, page 36)".
i was in the org.
Thank you all for your replies.
Blacksheep - Chris, I appreciate you putting the info on here for me. Eventually, as you quote, Jehovah has four times as many songs (in the 1984 book) as Jesus. I have become very wary and sceptical of everything that I read now, and it's good to see what actually was printed. The non-JW tract implied that songs about Jesus had been eliminated, but on reading it again, I can see that I thought that they meant ALL songs about Jesus had been eliminated !
Possible - interesting point - the tract where this info was taken from, appears to be from Christians who believe in the Trinity, so as you say, songs praising Jehovah could be thought of as songs praising Jesus, so if that is the case, they hadn't really eliminated songs praising Jesus!
Narkissos - "But it would be fun to see if (when, how) the WT jesuphobia went to the point of "eliminating" the 2nd-person address to Jesus in songs."
Perhaps others would be able to answer on this point. Like you, I do not have a song book anymore, and I've been trying hard to recall the various songs in it. All I can remember, is that we often said (me & Hubby KT) it's a pity that they got rid of some of the old songs.
Many thanks to you all

I was in the Org. for over 30 years and I must admit that I didn’t even notice these changes.
We truly were brain-washed.
I haven't got the Revelation book to check this out - Did anyone else notice or question this?
wow.
and so the wt society tightens down the screwdriver a bit more !
one of my wife and my lurking jw friends sent us this article which has some very pointed words in it inciting all jehovah's witnesses to take an even harder line view of apostates in this recent april 15th wt.. on pg.
Mr Flipper
thanks for the messages, but unfortunately I couldn't read them - each one said
"Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request. "
Thanks for trying though.
I managed to print out the scan from FOKYC.
We're enjoying your topics - keep 'em coming!

Are you referring to a Watchtower in 1988 or 2009 ?
I've just asked a JW to check out the April 15 2009 magazine and she couldn't find anything in it relating to this subject
HAS ANYONE GOT A COPY THAT THEY COULD SCAN - NEED IT URGENTLY!
many thanks

when i lived in socal, one of the things that came up was the fact that the spanish cong.
was not contributing enough for their share of the expenses.
they sent our cong.
Very funny
We had an elder who managed (quite often) to get a few words wrong
Once he was describing some-one wearing a very large hat - he meant to call it a stetson, but instead he called it a stilton (stilton cheese!)
Another time he was talking about blood and instead of referring to hemoglobins he called them hemo GOBLINS!
