Ok, I went and looked up Moore's links refering to the Bank/Gun ad and frankly there is nothing that says you get the gun inside the bank. In fact, the ad refers you to a *catalog* for the guns, among other things such as golf clubs. I tend to believe the bank employee that says the gun exchanged was specially staged specifically for the movie. The reason I say this is because every time I read Moore's supporting references they, in fact, do NOT support his argument.
Case in point is Moore's reference to Heston's speech. Heston's entire speech is nothing like Moore's edited soundbites. I guess Moore thinks we are too stupid to look up his primary sources!

berten,
Well, somebody is lying. Whether it be the lady that gave him the gun or Moore, I'm not exactly sure. Her version of events are quite different than Moore's. She claimed that the scene was staged and that guns are not normally handed out at the bank. She says that it was a special situation that they agreed to before hand because of the movie. Unfortunately I cannot confirm her side of the story, so I'll just have to keep an open mind about it.

Christian astrology--is there such a thing?
by sinamongurl inalthough i consider myself to be christian, i am very much interested in astrology and the study of its affects on us.
i belive it is a science, however according to some of our previous and current beliefs, this is a no-no.
i was wondering if anyone else has an interest in this and how much of a conflict it really is with christianity?.

::I am starting to believe that we are intimately linked into every aspect of the universe we inhabit and that we are each given our distinctive personality at the moment that spirit joins flesh at our birth (when we take the breath of life into our lungs?).
Why at birth? Is your mother's womb some type of special Astrological shield? Why shouldn't your personality be "imprinted" at conception? Oh yeah, there is absolutely no theory for why it should be this way rather than the other way.
::The planets each resonate with their own energy and who is to say that this energy does not add an individual signature to each of us at birth? A cosmic fingerprint
What "energy" are you talking about? How do you measure this energy? Or are you just making this up?

I'm not sure how anyone could be convinced by Sylvia Browne's transparent routine. Maybe it's the need to believe?

You believe that just because something is based on planets it's science? I guess it's a testament to the poor standard of science education in this country.
BTW, I'm not sure of what "order" you are speaking of in the planets. And which planets? You do know that Astrologists never knew of or even predicted the other planets that were discovered and predicted by modern science, right? You also realize that Astrology is based on the position of stars as they were centuries ago. Since the position of the stars have changed relative to our perspective on the earth, your chart is a couple of months or so off now.
This is "science"? lol

It has been studied by many scientists and shown to be utter bunk. Astrology is completely useless - it has no coherent theory and makes absolutely no accurate predictions.
No harm in it, though, if you don't really take it too seriously. Certainly there isn't any danger in 'bad' spirits haunting you or anything. ;)

Nope, I don't believe in it. In fact there are many examples of fraud in the 'psychic' business. I used to experience things that I interpreted as paranormal as a child, but after doing some research I found that many of those experiences were due to "night-terrors" - a fairly well understood physiological phenomenon. The others were due to an overactive imagination and the mind's tendency to modify memories (all well known in the scientific community).
So, no - I don't beieve in 'good' or 'bad' spirits. For a scientific understanding of paranormal phenomenon see the following books:
Demon Haunted World, Carl Sagan
Why People Believe Weird Things, Michael Shermer
Pseudoscience and the Paranormal, Terence Hines
James Randi also has a lot of good information on his website: http://www.randi.org

CG,
I believe you are confusing Afghanistan with Iraq. The Afghanistan government was clearly harboring and providing aide to Osama Bin Laden - the head of Al Queda, the group that masterminded and executed the 911 attacks.
As for Iraq, I can't claim to know all of Bush's motivations, but I believe a regime change was needed, and for reasons having nothing to do with terrorism, WMD, or oil. Bush may not have been the right man for that job, though. :)

CG,
>> We are causing another generation of Muslim people that have a beef with the American people, for NO EARTHLY REASON EXCEPT OIL.
That was your claim. That is a stupid claim. If the only "earthly reason" we invaded Afghanistan is for it's supposed pipeline advantages, then why didn't we do it before 911? Oh, did 911 just happen to give us the excuse to rape these people (by building oil pipelines LOL). Are you asserting that we should not have invaded Afghanistan and ousted the terrorist harboring Taliban after 911? Can you not think of any other "earthly reason" for the war in Afghanistan?
That's not to say that any resources that can be exploited will not be exploited, but please, tone the conspiracy theory rhetoric a bit. Even the article you posted did not agree with you - did you read the conclusion?
