Any opinion on the Philip's Transalation??
I Believe there was an article recently, in the Dec 1, 2004 WT, about a Jason BeDuhn who commented on the NWT in a very positive light. Anyone know what the other Translations he examined???

which translation of the bible would you say is most accurate and was not influenced by any 'religious group' in the translation?

how about leaving on your own terms!!!!
you go to the sunday meeting or theo school and service meeting... and when there is an opportunity to comment.. you raise your hand.. and the diligent brother [servant wanna a be] brings over the microphone and you say.. " i just wanted to make it clear that i "...." no longer want to be identified as one of jehovah's witnesses's connected with the watchtower tower society, and then you get up, click your heels, give everyone a farewell salute..... and leave the building singing some neil young tune...... :) has anyone done that?
should we start doing that?

some of you may have seen this... http://www.desinger.com/scriptures/conclusion.html.
it's really annoying that the 'legal department' weilds such a hyprocritical stick.
imagine them actually thinking that they 'own' the scriptures????
Blonde, true,, however the rule is... "better to suffer a loss than take your brother to court"... I would like to see someone say "ok, take me to court and sue me" and see if one practises what they preachet.....

It's really annoying that the 'legal department' weilds such a hyprocritical stick. Imagine them actually thinking that they 'own' the scriptures???? I dont know why this desinger guy doesnt just say 'well brothers, take me to court'!!!!! But I know why. Cause if he doesnt respond to this 'counsel', he will lose all his privileges in the cong. And then if he doesnt respond, he will be 'marked' for being disobeying. Then if he doesnt respond after a couple of more warnings, he would be disfellowshipped for showing a 'bad attitude'. What a joke. And what hyprocrisy. Anyone of the traveling reps, or elders etc, that photocopy a page out of one of the copywrighted books is breaking the same copywrite law!!!!! Yet, they are not disciplined. Heaven forbid, someone posting 'scriptures' of the internet!!!!!! In the Foreword of the NWT, the last paragraph says, "We thus make it availabe.......We pray .......whose who use this translation for spiritual advancement:" Yeah,, We make it available!!! But dont you dare make it available or we se sue your a$$$$$ off.
Frankly I have grown weary of this nonsense. I wonder what reaction I will get using a different translation of the scriptures at the meetings I do force myself to go to? :)
Is it just me who feels this way? :)
.

i've read a few very interesting stories about people's experiences when they decided to purchase coc.i'd like to share mine and read yours also.. in 1999,not long after we purchased our first computer i started reading material about jw's.before long,i got really interested in the ray franz story because even up here in northern ontario,i had heard about the apostasy of 1980.in the fall of '99 my wife decide to take a college course(bucking the jw trend),and she would stay at her sister's place during the week.one day i called a christian book store to see if they could get me this book.i was very nervous, changed my name and i wouldn't give them my phone number.i told them i'd call back in a few weeks to make sure they had it before i went in to pick it up.. when the day came,i picked up my courage by two hands and took off for my 40 mile drive to get my book.the book store is located in a small shopping mall, which had me really nervous that another jw might see me going in or out of the store.i walked in the mall looking around, making sure there was nobody in sight that i knew.when i walked in the store,i had cash ready in my hands, walked up to the counter, gave my fake name and the book i was purchasing.now i just had to walk and make it to the car and i was home free.. i know buying a book isn't that hard,i do it all the time, but at that time the implicationsof having this book in my possesion was tremendous.. anyways,it's been 5 1/2 years and still nobody here knows.the book has really opened my eyes and mind to the realities of the wts.i would definitely recommend this book to everyone here who has yet to read it.it's worth the effort to acquire it and will take away your fear of the watchdollar.
I think I have asked this before,,,,,,, but does anyone have an electronic version of those two books????
