Fred,
Hmm, wow. You know me. You're special. How?
Ever heard "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?" Well, if you're a gay guy you probably don't think she's so great.
BTW, the joke about hats, that's damn funny. Maybe you could go out to Gaymart and buy a new one? -

Disassociation?
by Sunflower1982 inhi people!
i was wondering if you all could take a moment to give me some advice.... since leaving my congregation and regaining clarity, i have been contemplating disassociating myself.
i know it seems like a silly thing to fret about, but i think disassociation might give me the closure ive been looking for.
-
rhett
Do it! It certainly seems like it would give you the closure you want/need. Also, you've definitely thought about the impact it would have and certainly don't seem to mind. DO IT!!!! Personally, I love the way most JW's act when they see me out somewhere. Its so much fun!

Who will go to heaven?
by misty ini know that jw's say only 144,000. however, i just read a book called "as time runs out" by robert jeffress and he claims that all christians who have received jesus will be picked up at the rapture.
but, he says, we will not all have the same rank in heaven.
he claims that different responsibilities will be assigned.

I must be looking at the Good Book with rose coloured glasses because I still can't find anything so wrong.
Which would imply that you can at least see some error in the bible.
You're presented with irrefutable evidence that something is wrong, you admit you can't figure out how someone who is supposed to be all knowing could be wrong, you believe that something must be true because it says it is, you substitute the word "stupidity" with the word "faith," you bring up scientific acuracy to prove something to show how right it is and then when that very same acuracy goes down in flames you say it doesn't matter, you search arcane words written thousands of years ago and mistranslated countless times over those thousands of years in hopes of making sense out of something that over that period of time no one has been able to offer a definitive answer, and yet, despite all the countless ways that it can be easily shown what a load of crap the bible is, you still desperately hang on to it in the hope that this fairy tale will come true.
Wow, if that's not stupidity then I don't know what is. Frankly, I really couldn't care less if don't "share my belief" that the above can be taken as stupdity or faithfulness. I think its quite funny though that instead of trying to prove me wrong on the scientific basis you instead tell me to look at the bigger picture (can't quite see all those blaring inconsistencies that way huh?) and say yourself that you're biased. Why didn't you point out places that I was wrong that are clearly stated in the bible? I mean, you seem to spend so much time studying it you should be able to do that right? Come on Misty, show me how I'm wrong. The stuff I pointed out had an incorrect summary and an incorrect explanation of the details. Why is that you have to try to take the words of the bible writers out of context or twist their meaning to explain stuff? Why can't the bible stand on its own?
Actually, I never really had any "hard blows" in my life to turn me away from god. Why would you think that? I didn't like the JW's, I left, I stayed a good little christian believing everything in the bible, I studied it quite in depth, I realized quite alot of what I was reading was a load of crap. To draw a comparison, I went out with this girl named Anita a long time ago for a couple of months. She was pretty, very nice, dependable, and crazy about me but I just didn't really want to be with her like that. Its not because she's a bad person at all because that couldn't be further from the truth. She did absolutely nothing wrong that would make me want to leave her. It just wasn't a good fit between our personalities. A year or two after we stopped going out she started seeing one of my friends and they were great together and I couldn't have been happier for both of them because they were a great fit. Same way with the idea of god. Nothing bad happened to turn me away but I just think the whole idea that there's this supreme being out there who used people to write this book with wrong and contradictory statements is a load of crap because I don't like it.
What I think is really funny is the mental process that you're going through here. You're getting upset because I show the potential to upset your world by showing how the bible is best used as toilet paper, then by the end of it seems you're feeling guilty about getting upset and are saying you're going to pray for me which kind of brings back that nice comfortable zone that's so important for you. It brings it back by showing to yourself that this little incident isn't enough to rattle your cage and relieves any guilt you may feel from thinking that god would be angry at you because you got upset at someone else. I like this conversation. It gives me a good laugh and constantly demonstates why I can't believe in the bible. -

the same situation as elsewhere in witness congregations.. the next generation of witnesses isn't there.. a friend of mine, who still goes to some meetings, made the.
same observation independently.

Hmmm, looking back on my old congregation as well as another one I used to spend quite a bit of time at where has everyone gone?
There was myself (very much apostate), Shawn (disfellowshipped for apostacy, later divorced from his wife before turning 21, slight substance abuse problem, still my best friend), Ken (moved back to his dad's after mom and step dad DA'd and eventualy moved out spends his time flirting and maybe making out with the occasional JW girl, probably still lives in fear of what his JW dad will say to him), Greg (public reproof for messing around with his fiance, later came back and is still the good little JW), Ben (slight substance abuse problem, now Shawn's room mate, very much apostate), Seth (married good JW girl and still quite strong, suprising because before he got married he lived quite the double life drinking, smoking, and screwing around), Kyle (good little JW boy who screws around), Steven (went to college, and stopped attending meetings after his mom comitted suicide), Britany (pregnant before graduating high school, now apostate), Barbette (same as her sister Britany, their mom was DF'd for screwing an elder when they were younger and after they broke up never came back), Josh (not sure but probably still believes but is too busy screwing around), Megan (you name it, she did it, now apostate), Angie (very very very much apostate and still just a wonderful person), Stephanie (very much apostate), Erin (DF'd but sees nothing wrong with JW's, quite the slut, multiple kids before graduation), Alison (don't have a clue but I'm guessing is out), Becky (my idiot ex sister-in-law got married and her and her husband took over her parents cleaning business securing herself as a JW for life), Leah (my genius ex sister-in-law who dropped college to become a missionary in Peru, got married to a guy down there, came home and live with her parents, last I heard had a pet goat), Kelly (DA'd herself so she could screw the 35 yr. old manager of the McDonald's she worked at until they got married and then repented), Jamie (DF'd for screwing around but later came back and married a good little JW man), Faith (married good JW boy), and only because they ended up marrying guys from my hall Kyla (DF'd for messing around with Greg, got reinstated and is frighteningly into JW's now, was married and had kid before gratuating high school), Amy (DF'd for apostacy and divorced from Shawn), and another Stephanie (married to Seth and a good little JW now). And of course the people from my old congregation from when I was a kid. Brad (my best friend in elementry school, drugs and breaking and entering, last I talked to him, years ago, he was waiting to be sentanced to prison), Keith (drugs, theft), Keith (see other Keith), Eric (drugs and sex), Lisa (good little JW girl), James (too many problems to even think about, I once heard about a string of murders and from I heard I could have sworn it was him, I was very suprised to hear it wasn't because he was so screwed up), and I'm sure there are others but I just can't think of them off the top of my head.
Make up your own mind as to what all that means but personally I'm leaning towards most of them haven't exactly done real well. -

PRIVATE VIEWS PUBLICLY EXPOSED
by Derrick ina regular poster revealed how an elder confided in an ex-jehovah's witness from norway who in the past has always insisted he is trustworthy.
i even recall him becoming outraged on h2o a year or two ago at the mere suggestion that he would turn a trusted private email correspondence into public fodder, or "out" any jehovah's witness who confided in him.. .

Um, I couldn't really even tell what the exact point of this message was but I do know that there are times when things said privately to one person over the net stay that way. This is not the only online community that I'm involved with. The other one that I am much more active in relies on trust and confidentiality. There have been many times when, in that group at least, I have been privy to very sensitive information, a couple times involving affairs that could land people in very deep trouble with the government of their respective countries. Each time, though, those strict confidences have been kept. In fact, its only very rarely that they are not kept among any members at all and even then its only because people's egos got in the way and they were out to cause harm to various individuals.
If anything I think that this goes back to the old JW mindset of always turning people in to the elders when you think they're doing something you disagree with. I can tell you that out in the normal world trust and confidentiality are still very highly regarded, and needed, on the net. -

Should Catholics leave their religion?
by DB inin the light of the recent news about child abuse scandals within the catholic church, would you encourage a catholic to leave his/her religion?.
.
thanks!

I'd say all people should leave their religions. Sure, they may offer some false hope based upon books written thousands of years ago by people trying to explain their surroundings and may even offer the authors hopes for a better life (commonly known as prophesy) but religion has by far outlived its usefulness.

Should US/UK hit Iraq???
by ISP inwondered what the consensus was.
here in the uk, blair seems set to support bush in hitting iraq but there is not wholesale support in the uk.
there is some dissent in other countries.

No. I'm with Simon in wondering why we are so supportive of Isreal. Oh wow, they're jewish and fighting muslims. Not exactly the best reasons to support someone if you ask me.

I'm respectful to people who earn it from me. Following a book that's thousands of years old that you yourself admit has errors simply because you want to is not a way to do that. Also, trying to get me to be more respectful by citing a part of said book won't exactly help you any either as I think I've made myself clear on how I feel about "the good toilet paper."
