See people, this is why you shouldn't be nice to those JW's that you see out in public but don't want to be unkind to them. You take the magazines from a kid to be nice to them you end up being an example.

Why do elders thump the table?
by ozziepost inmrs ozzie and i had a very pleasant visit yesterday to a lady who has plenty of questions as she seeks the truth about 'the troof'.. she told us that as a young 18 year old she commenced regular pioneering and has many memories of her time in the borg.
now in her early 60s she has many questions.
her well-marked and well-used nwt bears testimony to her earnestly seeking of the truth.. she told us that not too long ago she invited the presiding overseer and the visiting c.o.

Why do they do it? Hey, if they can't answer a question its only because you shouldn't be asking it!!! Where would you get such a question anyways? You've been on the internet talking to apostates haven't you?!?!?!

Restrictive vs Permissive
by LucidSky inhardcore dubs can be quite restrictive on their kids.
they are simply following organization rules but try to impose them on their children: no school sports or activities for you and absolutely no parties with those evil, worldly corruptibles in your class.
oh, and you must never, ever be alone with someone of the opposite sex because the instant you are, you'll just be ripping each other's clothes off... i'm not sure if it was because they were in the spotlight more, but it seemed to me that the kids with the hardcore parents were the ones getting baptized early and then getting disfellowshiped or reproved a couple years later.. jw parents have huge issues of mistrust and they close the channel of communication because their children fear reproof.

I just remember this family my sister was friends with back in the 80's. The oldest son was on the fast track to becoming an elder. He pioneered, worked cleaning jobs so he could go out in service more, was never alone with the good JW girls, all of that stuff. Then one night he snapped. After he finished cleaning he went to go play pool (as it turns out he was a bit of hustler) and snort some coke and went out of his mind. He went back to the car dealership, stole all the money in the place, trashed it, stole a car, decided he didn't want to put his family through what would happen because of it all and went back there while they were sleeping and set it on fire after pouring gad all over the place (luckily they got out). He was eventually picked up somewhere out west a few weeks later after wrecking another car he had stolen. Where is he today? An elder somewhere in Kentucky.
I also remember all the kids I knew from my old congregation in Owensboro Kentucy. Most of their parents were pretty strict about making sure they only spent time with other JW kids. Luckily I moved to Indiana at the start of middle school because I've turned out to be the only one that has never served any jail time or had an addiction problem. Those fine JW's youths served god and all turned out to be juvenile deliquents. Good thing those worldly kids didn't come in and corrupt them!
Oh yeah, concerned mama, get your daughter away from her JW boyfriend. I'm totally speaking from experience here because I was that guy at numerous points numerous years ago. Tell her to go date a nice normal boy who's not in a cult. -

Complete reversal: from Witness to atheist
by Ephanyminitas ini'm pretty new here (five minutes old!
) and i'm curious: how many have left the organization and, in time, become athiests.
i was raised in the organization, so growing up, my thinking was -- of course -- stifled.

I also feel that evolution does indeed account for simple form changes, but it lacks a certain explanatory power when it comes to powerful innovation and complexity. It all seems too convenient that the universe succeeded in bringing us into existence.
I will give you the fact that it takes a pretty long shot for all of this stuff to just come about on its own and without the help of any god creature. Its actually this belief that made me throw out the idea of god. If its so hard to imagine that all of this stuff happened on its own its even harder to imagine that god somehow came into existence and was so powerful that he could create the universe and its complexity. Its kind of like saying it seems next to impossible that a Palm Pilot could just materialize on my kitchen table. How much more impossible would it be for a machine that makes those Palm Pilots to materialize? Its quite a stretch for one to happen and an even bigger stretch for the other.

Who will go to heaven?
by misty ini know that jw's say only 144,000. however, i just read a book called "as time runs out" by robert jeffress and he claims that all christians who have received jesus will be picked up at the rapture.
but, he says, we will not all have the same rank in heaven.
he claims that different responsibilities will be assigned.

At this point, I can see you lift your hands up and shake your head, right?
No, I just get a good laugh. You're presented with irrefutable evidence that something is wrong, you admit you can't figure out how someone who is supposed to be all knowing could be wrong, you believe that something must be true because it says it is, you substitute the word "stupidity" with the word "faith," you bring up scientific acuracy to prove something to show how right it is and then when that very same acuracy goes down in flames you say it doesn't matter, you search arcane words written thousands of years ago and mistranslated countless times over those thousands of years in hopes of making sense out of something that over that period of time no one has been able to offer a definitive answer, and yet, despite all the countless ways that it can be easily shown what a load of crap the bible is, you still desperately hang on to it in the hope that this fairy tale will come true. If anything, I should thank you because its conversations like these that reaffirm the fact that the bible is best used as tool to wipe my butt with. It just shows me that the faithful (see last sentance to know what word I'm substituting here) can be presented with a mountain of evidence showing something yet refuse to believe it because of nothing other than their own stubborn adherance to a belief that has long outlived its usefulness. You, single handedly, have shown me that there really is no good reason to believe in god or the bible other than you just want to. Thank you. You are the reason why I just can't believe in stuff like this.
As someone else said on here, you can believe in something all you want but that won't make it come true. -

Hey, congrats to whoever this was written about!!! She got out of the cult. Good for her! After getting past all that crap all the rest of the stuff mentioned will be a breeze. Its so nice to see someone moving on with their life.
Then again, I would love to have any JW say those last couple paragraphes to my face. Remember, I married out of the cult. Tell the elders to come deal with me about it. I dare you. Evansville, IN. NW congregation. -

Self-love
by wonderwoman77 ini posted on the belief board last week when i started reading a book by thich nhat hanh.
i read the chapter on self-love and was deeply moved.
i know society, but especially the borg tells people to be selfless and do all these things for others and the borg, that we tend to feel awful about ourselves.

I generally get annoyed with needy people and have never been one to really care about making sure other people are happy or not. My friends and I have always hung out because we just want to be around each other for various reasons (of which making sure the other person is happy is not one of them).
As for personal image, though no Brad Pitt or anything I've also always been happy enough with the way I look. Then again, I've been of the opinion that its not what you got, but how you use it that'll get me by. -

It is possible to enjoy work. I know there have been places that I worked that I loved coming in every day. Same as my own business that I somewhat run. Love it and only thing I'd trade it for is a bigger version of it.
