This may not be what you're looking for, but in some old publication (I think it was the Divine Purpose book) there was an anecdote about Bethel needing coal during WW1 when supplies were nonexistant. The brothers prayed that if Jehovah wanted the Society to continue he would provide the coal. The next day some big truck full of coal showed up to deliver - apparently an anonymous donor had sent it. That was taken as a BIG sign that they were on the right track. There were several other similar stories.

JW Urban Legend - The Demonised Teddy Bear

howdy guys and girls!.

how many of you have heard the jehovah's witness urban legend about the demonised teddy bear?.

if you're from north london and were a witness during the late eighties and early nineties, there's a good chance you would have heard it.. i was lucky enough to have played a part in the actual account!.

Oh sweet Jesus! My in-laws were so afraid of the demons that they had an old van out in back of the house that was stuffed full of things that they suspected were demonized. The thinking was that getting it out from underneath your roofline would keep the demon outside.

My ex-husband told me stories of being punched through his mattress at night. They had bought the bed from a Methodist minister. Boy, that's a stretch. Footnote: His father was physically abusive and would sometimes come home drunk and beat him up, so that's probably what he was remembering.

Twice during my marriage to this man we threw away all of our furniture because he suspected it was demonized.

Hello again, sorry it's been so long!

i joined the site a few months ago, made a big splash then kind of dissapeared for a while.

i would like to thank those who i came into contact with and let me into their lives and hearts.

if anyone worried about me during my absence at all then i apologize; i have not regressed or been kidnapped/re-brainwashed by the borg.

Congratulations on your escape! It's overwhelming when the light pops on in your head and you have to rethink everything you've always believed.

I did the same thing - tried not to think about the past and concentrate on the future. Thing is, it's impossible to dismiss 32 years of my life. And once I realized that I'm the person I am today in part because of my experience with the cult I came terms with it.

No more blood card

what a day!

first of all one of my electronic devises broke so the store said they would replace it i just needed to show id, i removed my license from my wallet and saw my blood card staring me in the face i couldn't stand looking at it so i took it and crumpled it up and threw it away, upon leaving the store i had a car accident it the parking lot, nobody was terribly injured but it was my fault so i feel bad...but i also feel elated that i tore up the card, what if i had a really bad accident and i needed blood?

what could have happened to me?

babylon was "called to account" because of "their error".. what was their error?.

if it was the destruction of jerusalem did not jah say i am bringing my servant the king of the chaldeans against this place.

if that was the case then jah punished babylon for something he made them do.??.

i remember a few years back being involved in the campaign work, and having the distinctly awkward experience of having to hand the householders this piece of sh1t tract "the end of false religion is near!"..

i recall the discomfort i had trying to get into a conversation about this nonsense.

I wondered if there was a 1975 tract that was to be handed out in case they saw events moving towards Babylon's destruction?

Oh yeah, there was! I'm not sure of the year, but the cover was so flamboyant that we handed it out rolled up and then walked away at a brisk pace!

I was already out when the End of False Religion tract was distributed, but when I found one in my door I tore it into little pieces and burned it. Bwah, hah, hah!!!

Why the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society BAN against Peace Officers serving as "Elders " for Jehovah's Witnesses ?

in the early 80s the watchtower society began to forbid any police officer from serving as a ministerial servant, elder or even viewed as "exemplary".

at the time i was told it was because of firearms, possible bloodguilt, and being men of violence- "smiters".. as a young person it just didn't make sense to me.

i knew and liked a few peace officers who served as elders.

I remember when that article came out (in the Watchtower). It had to do more with "armed employment" where they might be obligated to use deadly force in the course of their job. That applies to security guards, police officers, etc. As I recall there was also something in that article about owning a gun being frowned upon but not forbidden.

Who else, besides me?

over the years on jwn i have often found myself hunting through posts of newcomers, hoping against hope i suppose, that the newbie would be one of my former friends in the local congregation down the street.. i just find it hard to imagine that not a soul among these people has taken the courage to investigate their religion and leave like my wife and i have done.. as the local 'active apostate', i also supposed that at any moment some of the 'brothers' would come covertly to my home, knock and say something like " i am out - please let's talk about it, why i left, why you left.

but, none of the above has ever happened.

i did come across a local former jw here, from another congregation, and we have become good friends over the past few years.

Jeff: One person from my former congregation contacted me. I was able to assist this person in leaving. It brought me a lot of joy.

Gosh, I'd love to be able to do that!

I was in the Borg in Maine, but now live in North Carolina. Several of my friends have left since my departure. Of course, now I'm 1000 miles away!

Penn State Decision and Will It Impact Anything Within WTBTS
