How many non-believers on the inside
by biblecheck init's taken me about 7 years after leaving the watchtower, to become actively involved within the exjw communities.
as part of this i created a couple of videos to, hopefully, help some others.
but what amazed me was the number of people who have pm'd me via youtube who are still active members of the watchtower - who know it's not the truth - but haven't left.

It's sad to think that so many people are still locked inside that cult and feel they can't leave even though they know (or it's dawning on them) that it's not The Truth TM .

TAI - Right on!
It really is shocking to me that the Society is making full use of the world this way. Such hypocrisy!

Raxxxx - Thank you so much for enduring two days of claptrap to bring this to us! I can't imagine how you kept your lunch down.
It's interesting looking at these notes from the vantage point of outside looking in. I can easily spot the mind-control BS where they make these bold statements without backing it up with anything solid then build on it.
It is quite clear what we shouldn't be doing. We wouldn't want to dabble in entertainment related to the occult or similar. But sometimes we may get the attitude that... well it's not all bad. There is just a little bit of that in there.
Illustration of peanut allergy. If you had a peanut allergy, first thing you do when you go to someone's house, and they are serving you food is : has it got any peanuts in it? Similarly – all of the things bad we should treat as an allergy. A deathly allergy. Even in tiny portions of something, that may appear wholesome, it could be deadly for us.
This is a stupid analogy. It's Sparlock all over again.
World's events are getting worse day by day. Let's look at national security. With all of the school shootings, muggings, current economic situation , work uncertainty, corporate greed – everything seems to be stacked against you.
Another bold statement that's not backed up. Give us some statistics to prove your point. Actually, I'd say it's pretty much business as usual in most places. They love to say that, though. I remember in the book, "True Peace and Security - From What Source?" back in the 70s they quoted some idiot who said that by 1975 the world would be unlivable. Ahem.

My First Presidential Election
by DarioKehl ini voted for the first time in my life in 2010, but this is the first presidential election since my awakening and subsequent fade from the jws!
i can't wait!
that's not to say i'm really excited about either candidate (i'm not), but this is another exciting milestone in my exit and healing process.

It took me several years before I realized, "Hey, I can vote now!" I voted in 2008 and it felt great. You'll love it.

My first own thread on here. Woken up and still in :(
by Gefangene ini have been around in this forum a lot but haven't written much yet.. also i had a more or less rude awakening when i realized that the religion i grew up with, the religion i sacrificed a lot for and considered to be the 'truth' is nothing but mere bs.
it's quite a brick to digest.. my parents both are jws, elder and pioneer.
very good people but also very brainwashed.

The more distance I get from that hogwash the more criminal it seems. When will they pass around the Kool-Aid?
Thank you, Raxxx. I'm sure you were screaming on the inside.

JAN 2013 SHUNNING ARTICLE COULD MEAN JWS NOT AS OBEDIENT
by steve2 inin a separate thread, there's been intense discussion about how the gb is still seeking to tighten its grip on the rank and file.
the latest evidence is the january 2013 watchtower which rolls out hugely predictable statements about not doing anything to upset one's (jw) family by, for example, being in email contact with a disfellowshipped witness.
it's hard to stifle the yawns.

In my former cong an elder's daughter (who was middle aged, mind you) committed adultery with an elder and both were DF'd, married each other, and moved to another state.
Fast forward a few months. The naughty couple come limping back to town, apparently in dire financial need, and are taken in by her elder father and mother who live in a very, very tiny apartment. I was shocked and offered my protests to my husband, also an elder, which fell on deaf ears.
Shortly, the naughty couple are reinstated and everyone's happy. No repercussions to the elder in question. Of course, he was a long-time JW who had served prison time during WWII for refusing military service, which apparently had rendered him bullet-proof.
