It must be just terrible having a family member missing for so long. Hugs to all who have a hole in their family.

I to have a missing but NEVER found family member, very painful indeed! RIP Whitney!
by haboob48 ini am at such a loss for words, i have stared at this screen for about an hour not knowing how to address this.
i feel for the family of this young woman and any way you slice it, closure or no closure, it is the same.
i will however say that the said missing person had just went through a disfellowshipping and divorce, and there was a dispute over property.

I had heard from a former Mormon that things got weirder and weirder the higher you got in the church.
He even said that the officiant had sex with the bride before her wedding. Now, I don't know if that's true or not, but after seeing this video anything is possible.

who was the craziest person in your congregation?
by grumblecakes inpls share, i love these stories!.

These are great. Keep 'em coming.
I only knew garden-variety eccentrics. Wait! I've got one.
This is nearly 40 years ago, so my memory is a bit dim on this subject.
In our circuit there was a well-known "apostate" who used to picket the circuit assemblies - Timothy Tovar. He yelled a lot and was bodily removed from CA. A couple of years later, and lord only knows why, he was REINSTATED and settled in our congregation while he attended nursing school. I had to work in field service with him and his wife, and I never felt exactly safe with them. He'd make these odd, rambling comments at the Watchtower study. His wife was downright creepy weird - think Squeaky Fromme.
He never did graduate from nursing school. Then he was disfellowshipped again, or rather, his reinstatement was rescinded. The elders had inquired about him at the nursing school, and they said there was no way they would have given him a nursing license as he was a sociopath.
I was happy to see them go.
Maybe someone else from Maine remembers this character and can fill in more details.

Words that were really hard to hear...
by NeverKnew inlast night, i listened to words that were really hard to hear.
i'm not sure how much of the conversation i blocked out.. i intentionally initiated a conversation with a jw man that i've grown very fond of who has been talking about marriage next year as recently as last weekend (our anniversary weekend).
we have had the conversation before, but i have to admit, i have a tough time listening and i find that i leave the conversations not believing what i'm hearing so therefore i can't seem to retain the details.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. You've certainly put a lot of work into the relationship, and you deserve better than a man who is divided between his feelings for you and his devotion to his god.

Since they claim to be "spirit-directed," do you think the WTS lawyers linked hands and prayed over their decision? What will happen to their faith if the court rules that they have to pay the lady?

More disfellowshippings.
by Chariklo init is eight months since i went to a meeting in a kingdom hall.
in that time i've met one or two witnesses, including elders, as i've been out and about in this small town.
some have been pleased to see me, some have avoided me.

their self-righteous little holy huddle
I love that!
Hah! The only reason they read that announcement was to "protect" the congregation from your "unwholesome" influence. They see you as a threat.
But they'll keep the child molesters and not tell any of the publishers.

When you were a JW, Did you think Prayers did any good?
by tresdecu inthe missing 21 year old woman in oregon got me thinking...so many jws comment on her fb page 'praying for you'...'constant daily prayers' etc.
what is the point?
i know it is a natural human emotion, to want to contribute in some small way when something bad happens.

Prayer for me was close to meditation and self examination. It was something I was trained to do from infancy. Prayer in times of turmoil provided me with inner strength and a better mindset to take personal action.
I agree with Tylinbrando. When I was in prayer did help me. But it was also one of the first things I stopped believing in.
When I was 17 I prayed for help finding the right marriage mate when it was the right time. Five months later a former bethelite and elder's son who was 7 years my senior proposed to me. I took this as Jehovah's direction, married him, and spent the next 27 years regretting it. The man was an abusive ne'er-do-well who put me through hell. I felt as though I'd asked for an egg but was handed a scorpion.
