That sounds like way more fun than anything we ever did. Our infrequent family studies usually consisted of the Watchtower article for the week. Dad would wait for either my brother or me to twitch and then he'd start yelling and condemning us for one or more of our myriad bad qualities, finish with praise of my perfect mother, and then we'd move on to the next paragraph. Those were the days.

Family Worship Night... ugh. How about this..?
by Muddy Waters ini now can't imagine anything more boring and stilted and stupifying than the way the wts instructs people to train and teach their children.. .
we're to sit at a table with one of their horrid, boring, dry, frightening publications.
read a paragraph, look up a scripture or scripture snippet, then ask the question.. .

Loosing Your Religion
by ballistic inchanging your religion for another or completely loosing your religion and or your belief in god, or turning to an agnostic point of view is really quite a big change.
for not wanting to state the obvious, when you change your religion, it changes not just the concept of religion in your mind, but your entire world view, or the way you perceive things work in the universe.
how does such an enormous change happen?.

It took me awhile to debunk the cult teachings in my own mind. Since then, I am so done with religion, but I'm not an agnostic or atheist.

Wow, I haven't thought about that in years. I did wish certain people I loved would die before the Big A. I never went so far as to want to kill them myself, but wishing for someone's death is twisted enough.

Obviously the BOE is backpedaling away from Holt. I wonder how his family feels. Is the congregation rallying around them or are they being shunned at the meetings? Imagine if Holt's father is an elder. This whole thing could really divide the congregation.

How often did you entertain the "Traveling Overseers", and did you regret it afterwards?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini found taking the traveling overseers out for a meal, to be a waste of time.
our literature regulary spoke of the upbuilding talk the local congregations received by entertaining our brothers.
now some of the modern cos look at their telecommunication devices, talk of things not related to our ministry or phone it in.

Taking the TO "out" for lunch or dinner was only for wealthy bros. We always fed them at home.
I had a full-time job, and Saturday afternoon was my housework time. When the CO came through we were assigned to feed him and his wife on Saturday, so before field service on Sat. morning I gathered up all the junk and dirty clothes lying around our tiny apartment and threw it into the bedroom closet.
After lunch my ex and the CO (and a couple of pioneer bros) were chatting in the living room while his wife and I cleared up the food. When we went to join the men, to my horror my ex had opened the bedroom closet and all of the brothers were standing around looking inside. I nearly fainted, but the CO's wife said, "Don't they always do that?"
Turns out we had an unused piece of exercise equipment that my ex had offered to give to the CO and they were looking at it. He pulled it out, and my panties were hanging from a handle. Needless to say, my ex got a piece of my mind afterward. And we cleaned out the closet.

Could you live with not talking to your JW family for the rest of your life?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inone of greatest obstacles to leaving the organization is the destruction of the family unit.
as lady-lee wrote about oompa, i thought of this topic, the society says "this is their way to get wrong doing people to return to the loving arms of jehovah after they repent of their sins" .
i know of men and women who are in good standings and hate their fellow spiritual jw family, i am willing to bet, wager that "jw-hatred" exceeds the worlds hatred, something about a self-assured group versus the "not so self assured' creates one plucked up structure.

I'm in the same boat. Mom and brother are staunch JWs. Haven't heard from them in 7 years. I keep checking the Social Security death list so that I know whether or not my 82-year-old mother is still alive.
