  Defend Your Borders or Listen to the Watchtower?

  with ww3 on the horizon the watchtower is bringing out their best hits on the issue of neutrality and the latest instalment on jw.org with stephen lett has the theme " why ancient israelites were allowed to go to war but as a christian you can't " or to paraphrase for a 2024 audience " why the modern state of israel is allowed all the nuclear weapons to defend their borders but you as a western european or north american you aren't supposed to compliant against open border policies and uncontrolled illegal migration" isn't that the exact same rhetoric or is it my imagination?

  so one of stephen lett's go to arguments is that christians do not take up arms because we don't live in ancient times where israelites had a mandate to occupy the holy land where as we gentile christians we don't.

  Any information about a special talk on Marriage in December 2024

  two folks from the local kh visited the house yesterday looking for my wife who is an on again off again baptized jw.

  wife was not available so they asked me to tell her about a special talk on marriage next week.

  any outlines available for this ‘special talk’ or could this potentially be a local issue?.

  Almost certainly the CO visit. All week in field serve us they pimp his sunday talk as a ‘special’ talk.

  My humble advise is to blow it off, but whatever makes you happy. Its not new nor special.

  wally, a youtuber from jw thoughts highlighted something that was said by kenneth cook jnr in the annual meeting.

  he thinks it may be removed before they publish the agm.

  i doubt we would see it in writing either.. part of kenneth's talk was about the changes regarding disfellowshipping and the clip from jw thoughts youtube shows him saying -.

  and whats more, he himself (paul) changed his mind very quickly and wrote a second letter correcting himself. “This rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man”

  And other expressions, citing mercy and regret that led to repentance. Im admittedly no fan of bible doctrine but i am not bias in saying, taking the words of a self serving pharisee and establishing a decades long policy of social intimidation, family alienation, harassment and bullying is beyond the scope of any common usage and shows the truth of the phrase ‘power corrupts and absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

  The gb took the words they wanted, to mean what they wanted, do what they wanted. Thats the truth.

  he will not pressure her to engage in sexual acts that make her feel uncomfortable, that are demeaning, or that bother her conscience..... the bible does not provide details as to what sexual practices between a husband and a wife should be considered clean or unclean.

  a christian couple must make decisions that reflect their resolve to honor jehovah, to please each other, and to maintain a clean conscience.

  generally speaking, a couple would not discuss with others this intimate aspect of their marriage..

  The simple truth is, in every sexual partnership, one will have a higher sex drive. It is an absolute fact, as no ones hormones are identical to anothers and hormones drive most human behaviors. Including sex drive.

  stop making this some ridiculous male/female thing, or patriarchy, or repressed women or impudent men or whatever reductive cliché of the week tickles you personally.

  the core issue is that the wtbs has zero business in the bedroom making rules of any sort, legally or biblically.

  In typical JW fashion it uses weasel words and phrases that can mean a lot things, but what it will mean to JW’s is “no”. Phrases like “demean her” and “bother her conscience” are glowing beacons of “dont do it” to any average JW, let alone phrases like “must make decisions that reflect their resolve to honor Jehovah”.

  
  

  Clearly the article is saying “dont do it!” But also saying its not a df’ing issue and warning people who engage in them to keep their mouths shut about it to keep discord down between couples who do and couples who dont.

  The fact is, its never been a religions business how men and women please each other, but because JW’dom started as a bunch of pennsylvania german repressed ultra conservative Mennonites, the org just cant get away from the roots of itself and will never change on sex.

  Heres the real kicker…. If you read the study articles they are going over last week, this week and next several weeks, you will see nothing has actually changed, other than they may reinstate people sooner than a year now.

  thats it.

  all that production about mercy and changing peoples viewpoints etc etc and they only actual change, in print (which is what matters) is that now you come back sooner.

  when they introduce a new interpretation or change their teachings, it's presented as a revelation, showcasing just how guided and spiritually in-tune the governing body is.

  while (naturally) this site emphasises the sins of the jw organisation, we should never forget that the jw sins only mirror similar sins in other 'christian' organisations.. this story, featured on the web-site of australia's government owned media group (the abc) tells the story of father damian barker, a roman catholic priest in perth w.a., who was guilty of sexually abusing young boys.

  the rc church reluctantly admits to such behaviour (a similar reluctance mirrored in the jw organisation).

  i may have put this in the wrong thread.

  if so, i'm sorry.. my conundrum is this.... i am almost completely certain that an awake back in the 80's/90's mentioned a group of rock bands we shouldn't listen to and i seem to remember them actually naming guns and roses.. i can't find anything now, and i'm wondering if it's the mandela effect, or if it's another case of the cdrom versions of the awakes being doctored again.. does anyone else remember this?

  or am i crazy?
