I don't understand how they continue to grow. Even though the growth barely keeps up with the population growth, I want to see the numbers begin a slow decline. I think most of the growth is likely in the foreign language congregations. In English, it seems more go than stay.

us growth has slowed, but still moving along, but uk and australia have are at a virtual standstill, and in fact decreasing against population growth.. .

As one poster said, the situation is PATHETIC. It can make you feel powerless, especially when the spouse is hardcore and there are kids involved. I wish I had some good advice but its different for everyone. I am fully awake and have been for over 2 years with a 5 year old daughter and a 8 month old daughter. My wife is fully commited and actively shuns her sister and "best friend'. I cant just run away, and if I stop all JW stuff I get treated like crap and if I go along with it I am tortured by the meetings and occasional FS and I feel like a hypocrite and feel like I should do more to remove my kids from the situation. However If I do that the happiness and warmth of the home will be gone and the kids will be raised in a cold tension filled home. There is no good soloution. Such a complex situation. Such a tragic situation.
Good luck to you and yes this is the only place we can come where others can really understand and empathize with our situation. Its nice to be here for one another.

Also I don't believe shunning actually stops certain behaviours. It merely forces people to become more two faced and sneaky about it. I guess you could spin it and say "more discreet" -

What if WT will claim, that Jehovah has pulled a "Jonah and Nineveh" on them?

I don't believe they actually will NEED the end to be around the corner to exist. Yes many would leave, but many would stay if they were convinced that they were living the way god wanted them too. I don't believe the Mormons have a doomsday, end is nigh mentality yet they are a successful, destructive cult with millions of members. -

They wouldn't do this anytime soon, but the organizations main intrest is self preservation. How many would have thought in 1926 after 60% left the group due to a false prophecy that it would grow to the extent it has? What is more, who from back then would even recognize it? The borg will morph and evolve and do anything it takes to survive. In 60 years they might pull this card out, who knows? They will never run out of excuses and twisted reasonings. The only question is, how long will people keep buying it?
The cynic in me says theirs a sucker born every minute, so there will always be someone swallowing the crap even if it is scaled down to a large degree.

What galls me is that ANY negative piece of information about WT that could upset the householder must be a wild unfounded UNTRUE rumor. What if the householder was upset by the recent judgements against the BORG for child abuse? That is not a rumor, nor untrue. JWs have not been prepared to address legitimate grievances a householder may have since most JWs have NOT EVEN HEARD of it! They are so brainwashed they would likely dismiss it as all an apostate lie, even though the court transcripts are available for all! Jws are clueless about their history as well as current scandals and therefore have no real option but to hang their heads and run from a knowledgeable householder. -

It works as far as information control is concerned, but fails when it comes to their official reasons for it.
They say they have the arrangement to protect the congregation and to restore the sinner to Jehovah.
Shunning helps neither as it only encourages "sinners" to keep their actions hidden at all costs, and since shunning amounts to emotional blackmail, returning "sinners" likely will be returning, not out of a heartfelt desire to restore their relationship with Jehovah, but instead to reunite with family and friends. This leaves the organization filled with insincere faking JWs.
Also, some who see how nasty their former friends and family really can be and how little they care while they are DF can move them to find unconditional friends on the outside and leave the JW life forever.

An unconfirmed report of a JW Murder in Mozambique
by Slidin Fast ina couple from the uk, international construction volunteers, were living in a trailer whilst building a translation facility in mozambique.
a gang attacked them with machetes and stole everything they owned.
the couple were flown back to the branch in south africa.

I cant vouch for the validity of this, but if true it is a terrible tragedy and one can only wonder.. Where was the most powerful force in the universe on that day? Taking its lunch break?
