How many JWs really believe the end will come "soon"?
by BU2B inthis topic has been on my mind lately.
i have been looking around at jws and wondering how many truly believe the end is as near as they are told.
from my personal experience, i know that my parents fully believe the end is imminent and may come any time now.

When you dont believe the end is near, you wont follow the rules as closely. For instance, my wife just bought 2 new pairs of "spanx" and her only concern is not what her "spiritual leader" said but whaat other self righteous JWs who see her wearing them and get jealous will say or think. -

JW Children - We're normal, and have fun at conventions, etc.
by berrygerry inwas reading a poster's experience with custody, and the info in wts child custody packet.. children are prepped to present themselves as normal, with school friendships, hobbies, activities, etc.
and not to mention that their life-goal is to pioneer.. the school brochure (1983) contains this gem:.
"they [witness families] also travel several times each year to attend larger gatherings called circuit assemblies and district conventions.

If they cant be honest about things like having "non witness" friends, hobbies, sports, and higher education what does that say about them? Why do they continue to hide their light under a basket? What kind of a lesson is it teaching the child that its ok for them to lie under oath to make the non custodial parent seem like a over protective nut ball?
It is so valuable to be able to produce this packet, along with quotes showing the true stand of WT on these issues to your lawyer if you are going through a custody battle! The deceptive nature of this packet, the JW parent, and the organization will be clear!

Neanderthal man
by scary21 inmy ex husband and father of my daughter was never baptized but is still a believer in the wt.. a couple years ago we were talking about evolution ( which he does not believe in ) i brought up the subject of the neanderthals and how we all have their dna except africans ( the ones that never left africa ).
he said neanderthals are apes and not humans and jw's do not teach that they are humans.
i said i believe they do.. in the life- how did it get here book, under the sub heading " the human family "is says " neanderthal man....... was undoubtedly human.. his response was " they are just talking about what other people believe " ahhhhh .

The Awake admits they exist, but with no explanation on how their presence can be explained from the bible.
This is from the 11/11 issue
Were Neanderthals Like Us?
“The long-held view that Neanderthals were inferior to Homo sapiens is changing as, one by one, capabilities thought unique to us have been linked to them,” says New Scientist. Recent discoveries indicate that Neanderthals built shelters and hearths, controlled fire, wore clothes, cooked food, made tools, and created glue to attach spear points to their shafts. There is also evidence that they cared for sick individuals, wore symbolic ornaments, and buried their dead. According to Erik Trinkaus, professor of physical anthropology at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., “Neanderthals were people, and they probably had the same range of mental abilities we do.”
I believe that they were similiar to us in the same way that Alligatior, Crocidile, and Caiman are all similiar but not the same.

This topic has been on my mind lately. I have been looking around at JWs and wondering how many truly believe the end is as near as they are told.
From my personal experience, I know that my parents fully believe the end is imminent and may come any time now. My dad still scours the news for signs of religious upheval, signalling the end of 'Babylon the Great' any story of violence between "so called" Christians and Moslems is a sure sign that the UN will turn on religion and usher in the GT. My wife on the other hand, although a dedicated JW speaks of growing old, retirement etc. even though she is only 31. The end is not real to her. She speaks often of our kids growing up in this system.
In conversations anyone here has had with active JWs lately, what sense do you get of them truly believing the end is near? When a doomsday cult loses the doom, they grow weak I would think. They lose much of the fear that drives people to do their bidding.

From the mouth of the Ayatollah
by Pistoff inthere has been more than a few posts about anthony morris iii and his talk about tight pants, spanx (spandex?
) and bethel as a destination vacation.. after the initial bewilderment and laughing about his diatribe, it is more clear to me that this was not about modest clothing choices, or spiritual priorities.. it was designed and succeeded as a slap in the face of all who listened.. the things he talked about are just not on the normal radar of anyone who listened.. i can recall nowhere in writing that ever encouraged families to go to bethel before disneyworld, mgm, etc; nowhere that talks about leggings or modern cut men's suits (it is just fashion, after all), or women wearing exercise clothing in public.
(on a side note, i have been to assemblies, there are just not many of us who could wear tight clothing and not look like stuffed sausage, so how many people was he aiming at here?).

The new JW Religion ala carte. Take what you like and leave the rest behind.>
Nice one. JW a la carte is how current Jdubs think and act.

And that is why I believe it immoral to impose religion on impressionable minds. The logical mind is bypassed at that age, sometimes for life. Great article, thanks! -

Im sorry, its not Caleb being baptized, but my point remains the same. That child still only looks to be 8 or 9. Certainly not enough to make a decision of such magnitude. I know. I was 12. -

I am likely going to sit through this garbage tonight. If it is true that Caleb is getting baptized, I believe this was the endgame all along. The WT knows the power of cartoons over children, and the power of advertizing! Every parent knows that with every commercial that comes on the Disney channel, Nickelodeon etc.. your child cries and begs for every product seen!
Now that Caleb is getting baptized, many of the kids will be clamoring to follow suit. It wont work on the older kids, but for those age 4-10 it will be very effective I fear.
All the feel good messages of saying please and thank you, cleaning up after yourself, listening to parents were only primers for the big kahuna of CHILD BAPTISM!
Before long we will be seeing episodes on how to shun family and "friends" and why it makes Jehoover happy!

Why are JW talks & publications never uplifting?
by thedepressedsoul ini was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!
i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.
they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.

In the past, there did seem to be SOME WT articles that didn't have an "angle". They may have simply presented a biblical account or story, or highlighted christian conduct.
Ever since the "Study Edition" aka the "Kool-Aid" edition was released, the cult speak seems to have grown stronger, and the cries demanding obedience more frequent!
Since the rise of JW.org, simulcasted annual and zone meetings, JW broadcast etc, they have been transforming from a cult where the members didnt really know the leaders, to one where they are known by face and name, and revered by the sheep. Much more creepy and idol like this way. Seeing AMIII face on the Jumbotron at the DC was reminicient of 1984 and seeing Letts overexaggerated face was unsettling.
