  Tinabel,

  I hope you have a better day today. It has been five years since my loss, and I still have some really bad days. There is no time limit on grief. When you lose someone who is so close it never goes away. It gets easier, but it is always there.

  When I first saw this thread this morning I thought 'Wow. Four pages of support. That is awesome.' Then I read with amazement some of the shit that was being said.

  Jesus, people. Can't we just be nice to someone hurting? Does every thread have to turn into a fight? WTF?

  i miss Tom, too. he is a great guy with a unique style. we have written back and forth occasionally for the past year, and i can say that he's a cool guy that has had some really shitty things happen to him, but he has kept his sense of humor. i think he's great. like wendy said, if you don't like his style, such is life. it takes all kinds.

  Isotope GFR test

  hi,.

  i would like to know if the isotope gfr test on the kidney ( done to access the function aspects of the kidney) , would cause any renal damage, due to the injection of the radioactive isotope into the blood stream.. does this have any know side effects?.

  hi kaarthi,

  it is my understanding that small amounts of short-lived radioisotopes are given to patients usually by a small injection into a vein.

  measurements are made using very sensitive equipment to determine how the body is working. Pictures of the isotope are produced by a gamma camera.

  the injection is less painful than a blood test. it will not make you feel sleepy or prevent you driving a car, and generally the injections have no side-effects.

  the radiation dose is similar to that from an ordinary x-ray. harmful effects of radioisotope tests are very rare.

  also, (i can't tell by your screen name) if you are pregnant or nursing, some of the radioactive isotopes may be transmitted to your baby so discuss it with your physician.

  i am not a doctor, but i am studying medicine. this is just my general knowledge on the issue. please contact a physician to get the whole picture.
