i am a policitcal conservative, at least a fiscal conservative and sociel moderate.
i support the death penalty, but i agree that our judicial system needs to overhaul how wwe treat criminals to achieve better rehabilitation results.
and of course, withhold the death penalty in cases where there could be doubt.. in mcveigh's case, i believe that he deserves the death penalty.
Sorry Amazing, I am totally, absolutely against the execution of McVeigh. Society must rise above the need for vengeance of this sort. If we uphold the death penalty we are no better than JW's who reckon that apostates must die at the hand of God, we are just extending the devaluing of human existence shown by the likes of McVeigh.
Spoken like a true Brit... which is why here in Australia, the criminals are protected more than the victims, and teenagers wanting drug money go around bashing elderly people with whatever's handy, with impunity! They break into homes without fear of retribution, just like they did at my neighbor's home this evening. If people were allowed to defend themselves, and gave a couple of these thugs what's coming to them, there wouldn't be all the crimes we see here! It's attitudes like "rise above" the barbaric tendencies, that leave the innocents wide open to being mistreated by the real barbarians!
RCat,
Who's sick and tired of the attitudes which allow innocents to be treated as criminals, and criminals to be treated as the "victims".

Also, I have a serious concern with our prison system in the USA and elsewhere. So, if I were convicted of such a crime, even if innocent, I would rather die than be the fleash fodder to some 300 pound guy in a cell named Bubba who calls me sweety. I can't think of a worse way to treat people, thean to confine them to conditions like that for life. Better to pull the switch and mercifully let them go out of existence. Just my point of view. - Amazing
Hmm... not a bad idea.. I think they should put McVeigh into the cell with Bubba for a month, and THEN kill him. And not by lethal injection.. that's too easy. Slow hanging would be better, with a bit of torture thrown in for good measure. He's the worst kind of human being-- soulless. They haven't been able to break him down since they got him. I think Bubba would work.

city loses big convention .
by bill johnson, special to the daily record.
wash your car, it will rain.
I don't see it. When it's in your town, you don't have to travel but everybody else does. When it's in another town, you have to travel but the people who live there don't. Sending thousands of Jacksonvillians to Tampa also means thousands of Tampons won't have to travel. It balances out.
Traveling TAMPONS eh, Comf? I was just about to fall asleep over my keyboard when I read that statement. The visual it created woke me back up!

elsewhere in the active topics list is a great post from wasasister dealing in a very wise manner with women's hormonal cycle.
the viewpoint and outlook contained in her post was to my mind very well done, thoughtful, considerate, and made a number of points that would be helpful to keep in mind in dealing with the male/female dynamic.. so i hope (and believe) that wasa won't mind if i use her post to springboard to one of my own - the mirror image of hers.. wasa makes a very good point in saying that women are jerked around by the hormones in their blood every month.
and lots of us know at least one woman whose pms reaches truly epic proportions.
But guys are guys for a variety of reasons, just as women are women. Our gender affects our behaviour. We are sentient creatures, so it shouldn't, for horny men or pre-menstural women, be carte-blanche for being a shit.
I agree heartily with that statement, Abaddon. Good post.
And where did I say that women should receive "a man's sympathy and compassion"? I didn't. Those are your words. I'm saying such a positive attitude should be extended to all by all.I much prefer receiving comment upon what I DID say, not what you say I said. With all due respect, Tina, it seems you have a rather large chip on your shoulder.
And Tina, with all due respect, and not meaning to start anything, before I ever read the above words by Francoise, the exact same thought was running through my mind. I didn't get the same meaning from Francoise's post that you did, I believe. I didn't feel that he was being patronizing to women.
I think Bill Clinton finally put to rest any question about men's hormones affecting job performance.
Wasa, that was an excellent observation!

i just got home from a dinner sponsored by the senior citizens counsel, an organization funded by the taxes of our city and county.
they have many programs to benefit the senior people in our area.
i hate to admit it but i qualify.
I well remember the feeling of "They're all gonna die soon". I'm so glad it wasn't true, because I never dropped my "worldly" friends when I went into the Org. I kept both. But I was always marked for it. Now I'm so glad I did keep 'em!
And the ones I've met here in Australia are very dear. I'll really miss 'em while we're in the USA next year.

how many on this board are: a) christains--not a jw b) jehovah's witnesses c) do not believe in god d) have a belief in god but just not active in anything right now.
i'm new to the board and was curious as to everyone's standing.
i'm 30, a christain, i left the jws 3 years ago (after being in it for 21 years) to follow jesus and heard of, among other good things, this great thing called: grace!
Hi Vienna,
Welcome to the group. I guess I'm classified Inactive-ex. I'm techinically inactive, but I consider myself an ex-JW as I would never return. I'm not even sure I believe in God's existence any more. I know I certainly wouldn't follow the God of the Bible, as he's a sadistic creature if ever I've seen one. I don't believe in organized religion of any sort. It's usually just a tool to control the masses.

i was just looking out the window, as it would happen a middle aged woman, or perhaps a young woman worn out with her life walked past.
she stopped on the edge of the mall where my wifes office is, and sat on a bench outside the window.
on close look, she couldnt have been more than late 30's, but probably only 35.. she sat for a while just looking at the ground in front of her, her face just exhibiting that blank look of the world weary.
HI Comf,
Nice to meet ya. As you can tell by the date I joined, I'm not new, however, I'm absent alot from class.
Handshake,

For me, it took years of watching alot of unjust BS that happened in our KH, and then came the "Donation" change. I follow the news and knew that it had to do with avoiding paying taxes, not a bolt of "new light" from God. Then came the "generation" change, and I really got suspicious. I quit attending meetings at that time. Walked out right in the middle of a talk, just shaking my head.
Three months later, I got on the internet and immediately found H20 and the Blood issue site. I printed the entire set of information and took it home to read. After that, I obtained Crisis of Conscience, and that was the end of believing in the ORg, or even believing in a kind God, for me.
