i was just curious if any of you growing up in the truth were overly scared of armageddon?.
when my mom came into the org.
in the 70's,the only so called kids book was the paradise lost book.the pictures in that book scared the pants off me!at night when i was lying in bed,if i would hear a loud plane go over head,or there was a thunder storm,i was sure it was the start of armageddon and i would be sooooo scared.i was wondering if i was the only one overly scared,or if their were others.. also,was anyone out there extremely frightened of the demons?i would hear all these crazy experiences of people having problems with demons,and i was sooo frightened they would come bother me.maybe i was just a big old scaredycat,but if any one else has any experiences,please post them!

The Paradise Lost book scared the pants off of me too. I still have nightmares of Armageddon. I had one just the other night.

PS: Oh, and I know one bipolar JW who thought she was being sexually molested by a demon. I guess demons find bipolar JW women to be sexy or something. But then, who doesn't? LMAO

over the last few months, changes have occured on this board.
many that complained have either left or post limitedly.

ok, this is going to get a little deep here but bear with me.. all of my reasoning here is going to based on the following assumptions/beliefs.
1) god is real.
it obviously wasnt a test because god already knew the outcome!.
The meaning of life?
The answer is we are food for the gods. When the gods throw a barbeque, we are the food. The gods all get together and eat a few souls/spirits, have a few beers and talk about the latest scores in the battle between good and evil. Much like we do about football games.

well, despite some 'doom and gloom' predictions of our imminent demise, last week was the busiest ever for the site in terms of visits with just a few short of 52,000 beating even the dateline and panorama weeks !
(i think quite a few who found us then have stuck around).. a quick tally of the thread viewed counts shows that they have now been viewed over 9.5 million times !
(this is just threads, discounting all the other page views).

Simon, you do a wonderful job and I know for a fact that many JW's visit this site on a daily basis. I have spoken to a few of them. Also, there are many here who share the information on this board with their JW families. I am one of those. The truth about the org is slowly getting out there.

isn't it true that the roman catholic church put together the bible (canonized the books), and decided the order and all that?
if this isn't true set me straight please.. what do the witnesses think about this?
is it (the bible) just as valid if part of "christendom" decided which books of the bible would be included?
The Gnostics were a heresy that grew up along side orthodox christianity. These heretics were defeat long before the Church had any type of secular authority.

The Gnostics are a pre-Christian as well as post-Christian sect. They existed prior to Christianity worshipping Greek and Egyptian gods. They then adapted their beliefs to Christianity.
While they were outlawed by the secular authority of the church, they still survived in isolated pockets. Occasionally those pockets would break out into larger areas such as the Cathars.

Slaughtered the Gnostics? How? The Gnosticism was pretty much defeated as a heresy before the "Church" had any power or authority.

In the 13th century, the Cathars (or Albigensiens) were a Gnostic sect that arose in southern France. They were wiped out by the church in a crusade. One particular massacre gave rise to the saying by Simon de Montfort, the leader of the Catholic army, "kill them all let and God sort them out".

One of the books left out of the cannon was the book of Enoch. This book was important to the Gnostics. The Catholic church opposed the Gnostics, considering them heretics. The book of Enoch stresses a personal relationship to God as opposed to finding God through an organized religion. The church would not tolerate this opinion so they slaughtered the Gnostics and removed this book from the scriptures.
The book is apocalyptic in nature. It discusses the origin of evil, final judgment, the resurrection, the Messiah and his kingdom; as well as the elect and their duty to God.
In the early 20th century, the book gained new interest in the USA and other parts of the world. I am reading the book right now and I believe that this book may have been influential in forming some of the WTS views regarding the little flock and the great crowd.
You can pick up a copy at your local bookstore. You may find it interesting. .
