Fred Franz Discredited a GB -- Part II
by RationalWitness infred franz discredited a gb -- part ii .
after elaborating on how jesus christ had 'used' c. t. russell as a modern-day evangelizer, franz continued his talk with an historical look at the origins of the gilead school, evidently intending to remind his audience that it was not a "governing body", but the president of the society who had been 'used' by god to bring about this marvelous educational institution.
his comments regarding how the society's president was "viewed" are of particular note, as they suggest what the governing body's nearly year-long discussions were aimed at bringing about ...well, so that watch tower bible and tract society, uh, operated throughout the years, and then, to make the story short, we come down to the year 1942. and i can remember a special meeting that was held on thursday, september the 24th, of the year 1942. a new president had, eh, arisen to preside over the affairs of the watch tower bible and tract society.

It is interesting that, after a nearly year-long struggle to wrest control of the Society from its then president, Nathan Knorr, the Governing Body twenty-five years later has seemingly relinquished that control by resigning their positions as directors and transferring oversight of the existing and newly created legal entities to others.
And Knorr seemingly, as far as it was published to membership at large, willingly relinquished sole control back in 1975. That's why I think the recent 'relinquishing' and resignation of Henshal was much the same. The power was wrested from the GB. My suspician is that JWs will hear less and less about the "Faithful and discreet slave" as being the "Governing body", or even the 144,000. It will be interesting to see.
One wonders whether these recent developments will-like similar adjustments in the past--become future "fulfillments" of prophetic speculation and a divinely ordained corrective realignment of "God's Organization."
Or if they will just quietly fade into oblivian. The less they say, the less we exJW "apostates" can refute.
What I have always found curious is that when this wresting of power from Knorr occurred, it was months before they expected Armageddon in 1975. I have wondered why the other members of the so-called "governing body" didn't have more pressing matters in those "last hours" before the end. Couldn't it wait until after Armageddon? Who know, maybe some or all of them would be raptured to heaven. (Or were they really beginning to doubt Fred Franz's predictions by then? Maybe that was in some way influencing this concern of leadership?) Just thinking.

Question about this year's DCs
by ros inhave this year's jw dcs had any of the gb as speakers?.
just curious.

The reason for my question is wondering just what is the roll of the Governing Body now? Or how are they perceived?
We have known for a long time they don't write the Watchtower or participate in such mundane things as regular door-to-door. Until recently at least, they have made appearances at the district assemblies to hype up the rank-and-file with loyalty pep talks to generate enthusiam for selling the latest publications. Now that they have 'resigned' (been replaced) from the Watchtower corporation, just how are they perceived as fulfilling the role of the F&DS? Are they even speaking at District Assemblies any more?It seems with the reorganization of the organization, the central WT precept of a F&DS (or at least of that being the GB) may be another one of their infamous dogmas that is being religated to fade away into oblivian. Otherwise, what is the current role of the Governing Body?

Hello, anon:
Like you, Witnesses invariably ask the question of who is fulfilling the preaching work of Matt.24 & 28.
May I ask you 2 questions about it?
1) What do you say the "good news of the kingdom" is?
2) Why do you believe house-to-house distribution of the Watchtower is preaching?I don't ask this to seem antagonistic, I hope it does not seem that way. I'm especially interested in what you say about question 1.

Do you want the real truth or not?
by Jason inon this website there seems to be so many lies and so little actual truth.
is this supposed to be a place to get answers or confuse the hell out of truth seekers?
well, for you seekers out there, if you find the truth on this site it'll be a major fluke.

Jason:
I agree that you need to identify what lies you are talking about. I agree there is a lot of BS here like anywhere else. You have to sift through the rubble to find the gems.Post me if you like: [email protected]

Why Mainstreaming Will Win and Reform Won't
by metatron insometimes change takes place over many years, in such a subtle.
and quiet way that those involved may not even discern that a. trend is forming.
as with social security and retirement issues,.

It used to be that the Watchtower was regarded as infallible, now "no body's perfect".
It used to be that a person could disassociate and not be shunned. Now, highly conspicuous violators of Organization policy can't even get DF'd, but they're shunned anyway.
When has the WTS ever NOT reformed? They have just called it "new light" or in the case of the generation change, "more precise understanding". Your term "mainstream" is probably a better term than "reform" for the direction they are headed.

Look at articles in the media praising JW's for benefiting
humanity because they fought in the courts. These are the
same folks who love artwork depicting the gruesome mass death
of their neighbors (remember the Paradise book for kids?).
Witnesses commonly applaud at conventions when talks describe
the same thing. We enjoy First Amendment rights because of
Watchtower arrogance and cult-like clannishness. Good results,
ugly motives - there's no need for thanks!I recently attended an interesting get-together along with some other exWitnesses. One of the speakers astutely brought to our attention just who have benefitted the most from these Watchtower court battles. Is it the average law-abiding morally-concerned citizen as they portray? No! On the contrary. Those who have gained the most from these civil-liberty battles in the courts have been people who insist on such things as the right to publish porn (like Larry Flint), those who want freedom of speech to embrace the right to shout obsenities in public wherever and in front of whomever they please, as well as activists of various non-mainstream groups, including cults. I'm sure all such groups and supporters are grateful for the Watchtower's court victories. Who knows, without their efforts, this forum might not be permitted to employ a big percent of the adjectives used here--how would things and people ever get described?
On another note:
While the recent reorganization of the Watchtower Society and resignation of the Governing Body members from the Corporation board has been presented as an amicable decentralization, I don't think so. I suggest it was a coup d'etat by the Society's lawyers at least as significant as when Rutherford wrested the Watchtower corporation away from the Bible Students. I would bet the Governing Body members' resignations were not voluntary; probably met with at least as much resistance as when Knorr and Fred Franz fought the rest of the organization's official GB members when they took control as a whole body in 1975.
I think the Watchtower Society, as we have known it, has been dismantled before our virtual eyes. The Governing Body is now nothing more than a figurehead to keep the R&F apeased for the time being, not unlike the monarchy in Britain. Brooklyn the Great has fallen!
