  an extrem strong earthquake happened recently in the indian ocean near island of sumatra.

  level 8,5 - 8,9. no contact to many islands and coasts anymore.

  no phone to the maledives and other touristic islands possible.

  I feel that too many times we are a three-year old stamping our feet and demanding answers from a parents withholding our desires from us.

  Is it really that unreasonable for mankind to ask God "Why?" Why did He allow over 20,000 people die this horrible death? Is He not all powerful? Is it to test our faith? Is it because He doesn't care? If one believes in the Bible, many people questioned God and received answers to much less important questions.

  If this life is a pre-test or perhaps a step to the next level, then why not let us know? What's the harm in God giving us a clear answer? That's what I can't understand. Isn't there a certain level of responsibility on His part to give us direction? To protect us? How do you view a man or woman who creates a child and then abandons them?

  Like you, I don't have all the answers or for that matter, any answers. But the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to realize that man's belief in God is more of a roadblock then a stepping stone. Perhaps man's next evolutionary step is to realize he's on his own and that only by working together will we survive and thrive.

  What I find sadly ironic is that scientists here in the U.S. knew 1-1/2 hours before the tital wave hit that it was coming but they had no way warning the people in those areas. Evidently those parts of India, Thailand and Indonesia don't have early warning type technology. Because ofthis the scienctists were helpless. It must have devistated them knowing what was about to happen, knowing how many people were about to die and that they couldn't do anything about it. I wonder if it bothered God or did he just change the channel??????

  What I don't understand is if anyone else here made those comments Simon just made, we'd get in trouble for it.

  I think that there's a differnece between saying "god is scum" (i.e. expressing an opinion) and "you're scum", the latter is simply picking a fight.

  IMO - Sometimes I think people here on the board get a little too sensitive when they feel their beliefs are being questioned or challenged. But then again, everyone has their own view of what a "spirirted debate" is.

  Why did God *create* the Earth with built-in natural disaster time bombs?

  That is an excellent question. I never really thought of it that way.

  I'm not for tear-down anyone's belief in God. I'm just curious as to how they answer such a question.

  "There is a time and a place for everything".

  In all honesty, I think that this is a good time and place for such a discussion. For people who believe in an almighty, loving God (or heck, a semi-powerful and decent god) how do you reason that he allows such things to happen?

  If I were sitting all comfy in my home watching a storm and happened to look outside my window and saw a cat or dog being swept away I would at least make an attempt to help the creature. It would be the decent thing to do. If I as an imperfect, selfish, weak human being act in such a way, how could it even be possible for God sit there and watch over 11,000 people die in one of the most horrible ways possible?

  If there is such an indiffernt God, can he really blame us when his divine offspring follow his example?

  JWs and charitable work

  i've read on here several times about how jws are discouraged for doing charitable work for anybody other than jws, and that they are discouraged from contributing financially to non-jw charities.

  are there some references to this in their literature that someone could point me to?.

  also, i had a discussion with a jw about a recent relief effort some jws did in florida.

  About 11 or 12 years ago a tornado hit a town up here in Illinois. I believe the effort to help the JW's effected was organized on a circuit level. Anyway, I remember going with a group of local "brothers" to the area that was hit. We were allowed through the police lines because we were labeled as "relief workers." We went to several JW homes and helped them best we could. Once we finished helping only the JWs, the elder in charge said that it was time to go. I asked about helping the other people in the area and got a lecture....again.

  Banned from the Kingdom Hall?

  so i was just wonderin' if anyone has ever heard of someone getting banned from the kingdom hall.

  my dad who was a very looked up to elder before my parents divorce and allways a very devout jw recently got banned from the kh, this is the 1st time hearing of someone getting banned, see this elder was talkin to his new wife a little too much and he thought they were gettin a little too close and he told this dude to back off and he didnt so this elder had a talk one night and my dad stood up in the middle of the hall right as this dude got on stage and announced that he better stay away from his wife, he was asked to leave and he refused so they called the cops on him and the cops came right in and escorted him out.

  so anywho they wont let him come back, they didnt df him or reprove him or anything just banned his ass-way to go dad, probably the best thing that ever happened to him, too bad he allready wasted 2/3 of is life in that sh*t. so has anyone else ever heard of getting banned?-april

  Actually, in this area, the brothers have been told not to physically remove people from the hall but to call the police.

  That's pretty much the instruction given from the Society regarding the treatment of anyone who disrupts either a meeting or an assembly program. Don't touch or restrain him and just call the police. I believe the Society is worried about someone claiming an injury and being sued.

  mr. miagi (spelling) nicknamed his student daniel, "danielson" (spelling) in the hit movie karate kid.. kuai chang cain (spelling) was the name of the character in the hit series, kung fu, and his nickname was grasshopper.. as a student of martial arts, i choose to go by the nickname cockroach, or cucuracha (spanish translation).. i choose this name because it reminds me of a song i learned while i was growing up in the san luis valley.

  another polar air day, and way too much grey.

  i'm tired of being inside and my son is sick again with a virus, by the time i leave to workout it's dark outside and even colder than earlier....ooooohhhhh i just want to stay under my covers until spring..... anyone else out there surviving this cold???

  What are your thoughts on the composite sign?

  lately i've been giving a lot of thought on my decision to leave the wts behind and during the course of my musing i contemplated the meaning of the composite sign.

  and then it kind of struck me that perhaps this composite sign was really just a declaration of the obvious.

  for example some of the elements of the composite sign are: famine, pestilence, reports of natural disasters (earthquakes, etc..).

  As usual, they made a bogus doctrine out of little bits of facts. Don't make the same mistake.

  Name just about any disaster in human history and you'll find SOME group claiming to have predicted it. Fear is a strong emotion that cult leaders have learned to use to their advantage. Look at all the doubting JWs who posted here and then when 9/11 happened, *POOF* they scurried back to the kingdom halls out of fear.
