For a long time I thought that people like Jesse Jackson, "leaders" who play upon people's fear, were just annoying. Jackson is now much more then that. He's adding fuel to the fire. It's just like 50 years ago when some white, racist, grand wizard piece of crap from the KKK would stir things up by preaching about the "dangers" of black people. When is someone in the media going to tell this dude to shut the f*ck up.

What is WRONG with people? (Looters, shooters, et al)
by AlmostAtheist ini'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.
shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.
it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

i was thinking the same thing a few days ago, but then you have to take this into consideration. the weather service actually downgraded the hurricane. the said, ''it's not as bad as we thought.'' and it wasn't the storm itself that destroyed the city, it was the levees that were damaged by the storm. i was watching an interview w/ the mayor of new orleans. people kept calling in and asking her the same thing. ''why did you wait till the last minute to deploy the national guard?''
Hi Jojo,
I might not have tracked it as closely as some people, but from what I remember seeing on CNN (as the storm was about to hit the coast) was that the hurricane was reduced from a catagory 5 to a catagory 4. However, the levees were only built to sustain a catagory 3 hurricane. So I can't believe that anyone is surprised that they gave way.

NEW ORLEANS - National Guard troops in armored vehicles poured into New Orleans on Thursday to curb the growing lawlessness that included shots reportedly fired at a helicopter airlifting people out of the Superdome and arson fires outside the arena.
This is what I can't understand. They KNEW several days ago that the hurricane was coming and was going to level New Orleans. So why didn't they have the national guard called up and ready to go in the MINUTE the storm blew over? There should have been squads of Guardsmen patrolling street. Now that the word is out that it's free pickings in New Orleans, people are really going to start pouring in and looting every store and home. Unbelieveable.
This morning I heard on the radio that here in Illinois we'll be sending 300 guardsmen. WTF were they waiting for? Why weren't they packed up and headed down there before the storm even hit?
Maybe who's ever in charge needs to call the Brooklyn and get a few tips from the knucke heads up there. Compared to who's ever in charge of the disaster relief and secirity of that area, I've seen better planning at District Conventions.

Can someone explain the generation change?
by feelinglost inafter being on here now for a little while, i decided to ask my mother this weekend about whether armageddon is still supposed to come before the generation of 1914 is gone.
so this leaves me a little confused- is this right, is this what they still teach?
or has something changed?

The question that every JW should ask themselves isn't "why did the WT change this belief" (that's obvious) but instead "why would Jehovah have His people believe and teach something for 70 or 80 years that is totally false?"
JWs will pull up certain scriptures and say "Ah hah, see? Even the first apostles didn't quite understand (insert Jesus death, Jesus return, last days, etc...). However, my question was always, did the apostles spend the better part of a century teaching something that was false and then, with time running out, change their um...."understanding"?

Then you go to a District convention and see Hispanic men speaking about the Bible, being applauded by 10,000+ people. Where else in this country are you going to see something like that happen? From that point on, you're sold.
Excellent summary. And no one is going to tell me that the Society doesn't realize how effective this is, how to be sneaky and trap these vunerable people.

I won't be surprised if both netflix and the blockbusters of the world go out of business in the next few years. I love the Comcast "on demand" feature. It keeps getting better and better. How long will it be before they have everything imaginable on demand?? Feel like watching "Being There" just select it. Want to watch season one of "Seinfeld", just click on it. No more going to blockbuster and having the dvd you want not be in. No more waiting for netflix. Just my opinion.
