C. T. Russell and the Trinity Doctrine

i have a question.. i know that russell's hallmark was "putting the hose on hell", so i'm assuming that the belief that humans do not have an immortal soul was also one of his early teachings.. however, i know that russell used the symbol of the cross, celebrated christmas, and that the early bible students also fellowshipped with other christians.

my grandmother, for example, attended a baptist church on sundays but went to bible student group studies with her father through the week.. so i am wondering about the witnesses rejection of the trinity doctrine.

did russell outspokenly reject the trinity doctrine?

There is nothing to suggest that Russell waws ever a trinitarian, at least during his Bible Student years. Barbour and Patton were both trinitarians. However volume 5 of Studies in the Scriptures has a refutation of the Trinity doctrine.

Russell believe and taught to diety of CHrist, after His resurrection, and even stated that he prayed to Jesus on occassion and said it was proper to worship Jesus. he believe it was Jesus who created ALL things. That it was Jesus who walked in the garden with Adam, that it was Jesus who spoke throughout the Old Testament as God's spokesman, that it was Jesus who visited Abraham with two other angels on their way to Sodom.

Somehow Jesus took a backseat.

WHY DID RUSSELL ABANDON TRINITARIANISM?

he initally believed in it, but abandon the doctrine later.. why?.

HE INITALLY BELIEVED IN IT, BUT ABANDON THE DOCTRINE LATER.
WHY?

Hmmm ... what makes you think he believed it? Unless you are referring to his days as before the Watchtower. Nothing in his writings suggest that he believed the doctrine during his Watchtower years.

Although John Patton, a founding father of the Watchtower was a trinitarian. RR

i've been reading some of the old jw books that are available on google books.. this has probably been shown before but i just seen it and thought i'd share.. .

this is pages 7 and 8 of studies in the scriptures volume 1.. i think anyone who is working towards baptism as a jw should have to read these older texts..just so they can recognize.

like have you said stuff that is just outright insane like "each and every one of us should be ready and willing to die for the society" purely in the hopes that you'd turn someone off?

i imagine for most of us trying to fade that would be the most difficult thing to do, but some people are really good at shutting down and just going with a flow, too.. .

i ask because it's the only possible explanation i can come up with for some of the really bat-shit insane stuff i've heard come from the podium.

Candid, one must keep in mind that what was college 100 years, is nothing near what it is today. College 100 years ago was for the rich, and it consisted of literature and bettering oneself. Not like it is today.

twins who were separated at birth and adopted by different sets of parents later married each other without realising they were brother and sister, a peer has told the house of lords.. david alton, an independent, pro-life member of the lords, said the brother and sister were granted an annulment after a high court judge ruled that the marriage had never validly existed.. the catholic politician -- who discovered the case after talking to a judge -- used it to highlight perceived deficiencies in the government's proposed human embryology and tissues bill, which is currently going through parliament.. the bill is designed to make it easier for lesbian and gay couples to have children through assisted reproduction, recognising same-sex partners as legal parents of babies conceived through donated sperm, eggs or embryos.. but it contains no provision to require the identity of the donor to be disclosed, potentially meaning a child could not be told they were conceived by assisted reproduction.. alton raised the case of the married twins -- who were born after ivf treatment -- during a debate on december 10, details of which only appeared on friday.. "there are implications for everybody involved, but the needs of the child will always be paramount, and it is right that we should therefore make the process as transparent as possible," alton told the lords.. ivf -- which increases the chances of multiple births -- meant such cases could become more common if the law does not require children to be told they were donor conceived and have access to their genetic history, he said.. "the right of children to know the identity of their biological parents is a human right," he added friday.. "there will be more cases like this if children are not given access to the truth.

The same thing happened in New York about 20 years ago. Except they knew they were brother and sister. Apparently they were put up for adoption (not twins) and found each other, they decided to meet at the NY public library on 5th avenue and when they saw each other, they didn't see brother and sister, but boy and girl, fell in love and got married. they were found out by family taken to court. The judge annulled the marriage and told them that he couldn't stop them from living together and strongly suggested they NOT have children.

I have in my hands "Report on Everlasting Good News" June-Sep 63

the full cover reads, "report on 'everlasting good news' assembly of jehovah's witnesses around the world june 30-september 8, 1963", 192 pages.. it appears to be a report on each of the conventions that were held around the world at that time.

a little wordy for modern taste, but there's lots of neato pictures.. hubby is borrowing it from a friend.

is this document available elsewhere or as a scan?

today, i found out that my ex-roommate will be evicted from his place.

his mom came up to my dad's work and tried to make it sound like we're in for hell, but when in reality, my former apartment can't do anything to me.

my ex-roommate has had 2 months to find someone.

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?

i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.

while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).

a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

The Bob Jones I knew was black, he was sent to my congregation in the Bronx to clean it up. I just got there and didn't know any better, but sisters were giving talks, the place was a mess, nepotism galore. Bob came in like the calvary and disfellowshipped the whole body of elders and servants and we started from scratch. He had a brother name Chris. Always wondered what happened to him.
