  Another pagan ritual JW's practice

  i recieved this in an email this morning: thanks, man.

  it was the accepted practice in babylon 4,000 years ago that for a. month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink.

  mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month or what we know today as the honeymoon.. tr

  How about the dats of the week and the months of the year, ALL named after pagan gods, if the Society really wanted to separate themselves from paganizm, why nopt desposed of the months and days in their literature and calenders?

  There is a group similar to the Witnesses, who are more extreme on paganism then the Society, they published their calanders as "day one" "day two" "first month" etc.

  I am an avid 'the practice' watcher, and was quite surprised to know that Rebecca was a JW, no doubt an inactive. Personally, I thought they handled the subject matter quite well, the writers did their history, unlike the episodes in 'ER' where it was stated that JW's would not go to heaven if they had a transfusion.

  The argument by the mother was that the issue of blood was a fundamental belief among JW's despite the fact that Rebecca had an abortion, had premarital sex, etc. And I believe this is true. My sister-in-law [brothers wife] was raised a JW, here and her wsix siblings, smoke, drank, used drugs, had sex, did it all, and at the same time talked about 'jehovah.' despite their sins, blood was a "no-no."

  The ending was surprising, when they had held hands to pray at Rebecca's bedside, this would constitute interfaith, something JW's do not approve of, however considering the circumstances, I believe every little prayer helps.

  Actually, the new class was invented to support the numbers. It seemed that by 1935, there were more than the allotted 144,000 witnesses, so a change had to be made, a new class. Paul Johnson, who formed the Laymen's Home Missionary Movement in 1918 after being kicked out by Rutherford, created an "unbegotten" class by claiming the door was officially shut in 1916. Another group formed in 1919, the Standfast Bible Students Association claimed the door was closed in 1914 and that Jehovah rejected the Society in 1918. Rutherford toyed with the idea and finally created the class in 1935.

  Interestingly, it was in the early 1920s that Testimony meetings and character development studies were touted as "tools of the devil," Rutheford stated that preaching was of the utmost importance, not character development of Christ. Thus with this being lost, and the advocating of preaching stressed and Watchtower/book studies replaced actual Bible Studies, much was lost sight of.

  If anyone has ever read Rutherford's books in chronological order one would see a progression of "new light" each book contradicting the last, is it any wonder the friends knew anything?

  Eventually this was the start of the Society breeding a class of idiots, who hanged on every word of the Society. At the same time those Bible Students who refuse to give up their Christian freedom, defected and formed independent congregations, by 1931, some three-quarters of the orginal Bible Students were now organizaed outside of the Society and this prompted Rutherford to change the name to "Jehovah's witnesses," so as not to be confused with the independent Bible Students.

  One of the funny stories I was told is that in the 1930s and 1940s when the new class was formed, the halls were divided into two, the anointed ones all sat together. In fact the name "Jehovah's witnesses [small "w"] was only indicative of the anointed ones, the great crowd had no designation. Some of the older convention reports and annoucements were dubbed "Jehovah's witnesses and thier Companions."

  Franz, under Knorrs presidency made the change to reflect ALL members of the Society were "Jehovah's witnesses."

  Did You Know ....? [Rutherford]

  1. that judge rutherford had a mistress.

  2. that he died from a fall down the basement stiars where he cracked open his skull and the rats fed on him.. 3. that his son, malcolm, left immediately after his father became president and lived the life of a hermit, never to speak to or about his father until in death in 1995.. 4. that the judge was a womenizer, alcoholic and racist and dabbled with the occult.. _______________.

  Hi Larc,

  I take it you got my e-mail about the Russell quote. I've been a bit busy traveling and speaking.

  The research of the book is complete and am in teh writying stage, however with all mt responsibilities, work, church, family, etc. Time is limited, I haven't touiched the book all this year and barely put a dent in it last year, but am determined to do a lot of writing in the next few months if I can get motivated.

  I have spoken to Jim Penton, he told me that were he to update the book, he would put a different slant on it, for some reason his association with the Free Bible Students, a group that broke away from the Society in 1909 has put a bad taste in his mouth and he truly dislikes Russell, mkore so than he ever did, so he admitted that he would not be so kind to Russell in a revision.

  Would I be biased? I don't think so, my aim is to record the facts and let the reader determine for themselves what is truth and what is fallacy. The book is a history of Russell and the IBSA, it is not a book about the Society or the witnesses, although a little chapter will be written about Rutherford and the genesis of the JW's.

  As to Rutherford death? I have heard from numerous old timers who knew Rutherford that he died during a fall ion his basement, couild this have been one of those urbanm legends? Could be, But there are two sides, the Society's, he died in bed, and the Bible Students, he died by fall. However, since the Bible Students care very little about the Society it's no big deal. To my knowledge, no one has ever seen Rutherford's grave, at least no one I know of.

  In the 1950s, there was an article in a San diego paper from a Witness who claimed to have dug the grave in which Rutherford was put in, at Beth Sarim in the middle of the night, I don't have the article a friend of mind many years ago showed it to me, I never made a copy because it wasn't of interest to me at the time. And we are no longer friends.

  btw ... I did do some researchj some years ago and there was a convention in San Diego when he died.

  Is Napster Home For Demons?

  i remember that in my days as a jw, re-recording a cassette or record was regarded as fraudulent conduct.

  the idea was that the original artist was being deprived of royalties, so the practise was verboten.. if you were going to make recordings, then record talks at assemblies!.

  it seems that the downloading of napster has re-awakened many jw consciences, not only because of its stated purpose of sharing music files, but because of napsters logo.. so what exactly is that little white face?

  Heavenly Life Anyone?

  not the norm is it for a jw?

  basically we told that were not going there even if we thought/felt differently.. 1935 seems to have been a threshold of sorts with the id'ing of the 'great crowd' of revelation 7 as an earthly group.

  not saying i have the answers but i believe the position to be far from clear cut.. i wouldn't like to be on the wrong side of this rebuke!.

  The "rest of mankind," are those who are not of the Church class. It is my understanding that Lord is calling out a "people for his name." These are a special people who will reign with him in heaven, the little flock, they will be kings and priest with Christ. "Many are called, few are chosen." These are the chosen ones.

  The rest of mankind consist of those of the world, everybody else, who did not make that sacrifice to walk the way of the cross. It is not that those who are Christian are better, it is simply that they have been chosen for a purpose, that purpose when completed will benefit all of mankind.
