Gozz:
Lari raised that point in an earlier post. I checked nine translations and was not able to find a definitive statement as to who was taken into exile - Kish or Mordecai. My source for the understanding was "Asimov's Guide to the Bible".
much to my surprize, i received an e-mail from a webzine this morning, telling me that one of my articles was published.
they must be very hard up for material.. it is on the subject of "the women of the bible".
it outlines some of the gender discrimination of the bible, and highlights a few inconsistancies in some of the bible stories that mention women.. if anyone is interested, it can be found at: http://www.liberator.net/.

Gozz: Thanks for catching that. I must have taken leave of my senses. Here is the reference from Leviticus 27 (RSV):
Leviticus, chapter 27
1: The LORD said to Moses,
2: "Say to the people of Israel, When a man makes a special vow of persons to the LORD at your valuation,
3: then your valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.
4: If the person is a female, your valuation shall be thirty shekels.
5: If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, your valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
6: If the person is from a month old up to five years old, your valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver.
7: And if the person is sixty years old and upward, then your valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels.
8: And if a man is too poor to pay your valuation, then he shall bring the person before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to the ability of him who vowed the priest shall value him.
What really makes this chapter despicable is the following verse:
28: "But no devoted thing that a man devotes to the LORD, of anything that he has, whether of man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD.
29: No one devoted, who is to be utterly destroyed from among men, shall be ransomed; he shall be put to death.
i thought it might be a good idea to find out at what age or after how long we descided to leave the watchtower.. prehaps we my find a patern in it which we could use .. i think what we need to know are ,.
1.age you left the watchtower.
(or age you found out it was wrong).
1. Figured it out around 30 (still in, though)
2. Baptized at 16
3. Brought up in it (3rd generation)
in defense of the inerrancy of the bible, many believers make the assertion that the gospel writers wrote about what they witnessed firsthand.
let's consider the case of the gospel called "mark.
" the writer of those jesus stories does not tell us he walked and talked with jesus, or that he witnessed any of the events he described, so why should we not believe that he was only reporting what someone else said happened, or perhaps what he thought should have happened to fulfill scripture?.
You're dead right, Joe. Let 'em have it!
would you eat blood voluntarily, if it was, say, a major constituent in a food that you found to be particularly tasty?.
truth exists;only falsehood has to be invented.

Here's a real life twist to that question.
The last series of "Survivor" took place in Africa. In one of the episodes, a local tribesman was lead into the group with a cow. He bled the cow from the neck, and mixed the blood with milk. The contestants had to drink the mixture in order to stay in the contest.
Would you drink fresh warm cow's blood for a million dollars?
Would you drink fresh warm cow's blood in order to keep alive your chances at a million dollars?
And as for me, you bet I would! (but, not on tv)
i wonder if jesus did exist?i just wanted to know if having faith that he did is enough,i mean i like to have you know concrete proof about things and there isnt much proof he existed except that in the bible, maybe he was just another wannabe prophet, just think what people believe in today like faith healers they supposedly have healing powers, believers claim to be healed then later resume back to there normal condition etc etc.
is it all in there mind and they want it to be real they believe it so much that they think there cured even though there not you see wat im getting at people might of thought about jesus the same way like maybe looking for a hope in this healer or prophet and then claiming to be better because they were maybe over emotional about jesus.
I enter into this fray against my better judgement.
Personally, I believe that the Jesus of the Bible is a composite of several persons and their teachings, tempered with a little bit of mythology, and grown large into a legend. There is some literal truth to the story, but much more is to be gained by the meaning of the story than the literal truthfulness of the events.
The Jesus of the Bible is a creation of the early church and the writers of the early books. Most of the books did not find their way into the Bible canon.
This type of character personifies and embodies the wisdom of the day, so is a much more inspiring person than a literal human would be.
part 9: the summer of love jw style .
a moment of reflection: looking back my family and me had come a long way.
there was much more to do, but i could taste sweet victory just ahead, just around the corner.
I haven't said much since the beginning of the series, but I have been faithfully reading them all.
Thanks for the series. There are many parts of your experience that I can relate to. I am finding your experience in dealing with your family very educational, as I am currently vaccinating my son and daughter in much the same way that you studied with your family.
I also like the tecnique of highlighting the first words of each paragraph. It makes a long article easier to read on line.
is this the one of the most hidden secrets of our time?.

in january 1981 several daily newspapers stated that pluto's orbit indicates that planet x exists.
Back in the 70's, Immanual Velikovsky came up with numerous preposterous claims.
Because his books were popular, Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan (and probably others), took the time to systematically debunk his theories. This claim strikes me as very similar.
Unless he acquires an audience, no scientist will bother wasting the time to refute this trash.
how can i sum up how it went?
in a word...
aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
"Who knows...or cares."
You just said it all. They can only control you if you let them. (Spoken courageously by someone who is hopelessly stuck on the inside)
You'll be much better off after this is over.
the wts has misrepresented einstein's beliefs.
here is what the man himself had to say:.
"i cannot imagine a god who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own - a god, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty.
You are right.
Although Einstein makes occasional references to "God", and the Society makes much of it, you have correctly noted that his idea of "God" was nowhere near what the Society implies.
