According to JWs, being "concious of your spiritual need" means that you must go to every meeting and convention, because that is where your spiritual needs are met. If you are not at every stinking meeting, then you are not "concious of your spiritual need", and happiness is impossible.

JW response to CNN article
by dubla ini just showed the (bill bowen) cnn article to my father(active jw), and he started defending the jws before he even finished reading it.
why are they always so averse to looking at possible flaws?
its frustrating to see them constantly defending the faith, blindly.

"what if it doesn't even get into the brain?"
Concerned Mama: Some people have an insurmountable threshhold for what they will overlook. My mother is one of them. The President of the Watchtower Society could show up at her kingdom hall and murder and eat the presiding overseer during the instruction talk, and it would not phase her.
The persons who can be reached are the new ones, those who are wavering, those who think for themselves, and those who have maintained a lifeline to the outside. I would guess this is about 75% of active Witnesses and 90% of fringe Witnesses. Also, newly interested ones are extremely turned off by this.
We can't get through to them all, but never before have this many been reached this effectively.

It is not a simple matter of "opening their eyes". JW's believe their org is god-ordained and perfect. Anything short of perfection destroys the whole house of cards.
So for JWs, it is all or nothing. If the org is not perfect, it is garbage. So, anything that shows them as not perfect is discarded.
However, every piece of evidence, like this one, adds up. Somewhere in every JW brain is a running tally of organizational mistakes and sins. Each individual has a threshhold of what they will accept. When the evidence passes the threshhold, they have a crisis.
It may seem pointless, but we must keep heaping on the evidence.

Silent Lambs and The Wisdom of The WTBTS
by Siddhashunyata inquestion.......from the stand point of the wtbts would it have been wiser to spread out their judicial notifications say over a couple of months or more?
ie.. bill bowen in january, barbara anderson in march etc.

The only problem with invoking persecution in order to scare members back before armageddon, is that when armageddon doesn't come (again), the members must sheepishly creep back to their old positions. And each time that happens, a few of them see what is going on and bolt.
If this is indeed their strategy, then they are even stupider than they appear.

No doubt about it. The society has blundered in probably the stupidest, most simplistic manner possible.
Their actions couldn't be worse from a strategic point of view. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they were on our side.

Ex's Rage Generating Unstoppable Momentum
by Englishman inthis evening i have just watched a news item that concerned a baby that has been abandoned by the side of a busy main road.
the bbc did a short feature on people who had been found after being literally left on a doorstep somewhere as a new-born baby.. one woman, in her early 60s now, said that she never could get any peace because she just didnt know why her unknown mother had left her on a strangers doorstep.
she didnt know her own name, she didnt even know when she was born or where.

There is no doubt that the Society is "reaping the whirlwind".
There are so many ex-JW's out there, that they cannot possibly hope to contain them. In the past, this group was fragmented. Today, the internet has allowed them to create an organic community, much like a guerrila organization.
Ex-JW's write books, host web sites, send letters and talk to their friends on the inside, initiate lawsuits, tip-off media, write news articles, and create a million other thorns in their sides.
On top of that, they continue to shoot themselves in the foot by idiotic PR moves, like DFing whistleblowers, and shunning conciensious blood objectors.
The old fashioned tighten the screws mentality will only make this worse for them.
Personally, I cannot imagine a more stressful job than running that organization today. They have it coming. -

Did Satan prove God wrong? a possible bibical flaw
by Leander inmost people are familiar with the account of job where satan makes the claim that the only reason humans serve god is because of selfish reasons.
god allowed satan to test this theory on job, so job was beset by numerous trials but he refused to give up on god or blame him in anyway.. it would appear that satan was proved wrong in this particular bible account but was he really?
would the majority of mankind follow jobs example if they were faced with similar trials?

And yes, since JW's believe that 999 out of 1000 persons will be killed for disobeying God, then clearly Satan was right. The overwhelming majority of humans are on Satan's side.
Witnesses often counter by saying that the debate is whether ANY persons will be faithful to God. Well, if that's the case, then this debate was over thousands of years ago. Why prolong the suffering?

I blew off a 25 min. service meeting part tonite
by Leander ini told the presiding overseer that i'd probably be late getting home from work.
but i actually spent my time driving around and enjoying the spring weather.. in other news i'll be going in for a job interview tomorrow within the company.
i'm really hoping i land this job, because as soon as i can secure a new position (my old one is being phased out) i'll be exiting the stage of the jw comedy of errors.. .

Scully:
You should have said to the elder, "Well, let's just ask this householder which one of us he's happier to see at his door." That should settle the love of neighbor debate.

In the movie "Trading Places" (Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy), two old farts make a bet regarding heredity vs environment. One of them claims that he can take a street person and turn him into a stock broker, and vice versa.
So, these two old guys completely mess up the lives of the main characters, turning them inside out - all for a nominal bet of $1.
I always thought that this movie was a remake of the book of Job. Only, its a lot funnier and better written.
If the story of Job is literally true, then God is one supreme ass-hole.

Lies - Professional and Amateurish

I believe the Society's lying problem is due to the simple fact that they are so stupid that they actually believe themselves.
Witnesses have become adept at holding mutually exclusive, contradictory ideas. They have a system of dealing with them mentally. When a JW repeats a lie to another JW (say for example: we don't believe that only JW's will survive armageddon), the listener is falling over himself to believe the crap. So, when they need to lie to an outsider, they simply rationalize the lie and carry on.
Unfortunately for them, outsiders are a lot more savy. They can tell a lie when they see one, and outsiders are not looking for reasons to believe. They are looking for evidence.
So, it should come as no surprise that JW's are amateurish, unsophisticated liers. It's because they don't think they are lying.
