am i correct in saying that in countries with conscription, jw's used to have to refuse alternative service provided by the state for conscientious objectors?
thus usually resulting in imprisonment.. has this policy of not accepting alternative service changed?.
if so could someone be so kind as to provide wt quotes.. thanks in advance.. thomas covenant.

did you feel "more right" with jehovah?.
A word of warning to anyone thinking this is the correct thing to do,

it is said that jehovah's witnesses will learn about "oral sex" again in the next watchtower study although i do not know well.. i think that the governing body is really foolish.. why do 3 years old children need to study such an obscene word with adults?.

As a father who was trying to do the correct thing in bringing my children up respecting certain values, I was very upset when this sought of subject was studied.
I would approach elders about this, their answer was "that is life", as a father you would control when to bring a subject forward and when NOT to.
I found the only answer was not to go to meetings where this material was being presented.
The apostle Paul spoke about getting on to more spiritual things, therefore knowing that a child has to have that childlike period in their lives.

when a brother takes the office of eldership, does he have to give an oath of allegiance to the organisation, ...........if so what is it.

Bluesbrother,
Whether this is normal or not (not telling or asking if you would like to become elder) I have heard this happens.
Which might be a bit disturbing for the person involved, he may feel he cannot take on those responsibilities, he may have other commitments that take him away from fulfilling this office, he may even, unbeknown to elders have a personal problem that he might be working on privately.
In "general" how can they be sure that they are getting the right candidate when they do not discuss or ask the person.
Is this perhaps ONE of the reasons why so many elders (certainly that I have come across) do not live up to the requirements set out in the bible.
Saying;....He who wan'ts to rule over others ...must first be master of himself.

Mongolia,
"No....when appointed, he is asked 2 questions: Is there anything in your past that would disqualify you now from being an elder?, and, Is there any reason we should not announce to the congregation that you are now an elder?"
Wouldn’t it be very interesting if that were the case, to have the elders take this oath/pledge every one or two years, I wonder how many would be still standing after a period of time, assuming of course they were to come clean!!!

the earlier in the forenoon you take the sun bath, the greater will be the beneficial effect, because you get more of the ultra-violet rays, which are healing.

SYN,
This is the same letter we received, same wording back in 2001,
To make sure our letter was going to be dealt with and it’s safe arrival we sent a cheque for £10 to cover any inconvenience, they returned the cheque but still gave us the information we wanted.
This along with many other documents were given to the society and the elders for an answer .....................................NOTHING except of course the big "D"

So long as he answers both questions "No", he is considered appointed. That's all there is to it.
THAT’S ALL !!!
That’s amazing if it turns out to be true.
The fact that the meeting would have opened in prayer, suggests to me this is an oath (let your yes mean yes) this according to the Wts before Jehovah.
This surely leaves them wide open at some future time and event!!!
Frank75,
I called them brother because I wanted to distinguish between elder and brother when making that point. It is a practice I never went along with, the reason being , it was too formal, unions use same expression even the Mafia.

what i found that upset elders more than most things was, when you made them verify their statement with scriptural backing.. when you showed their complete lack of common sense coupled with lack of christian knowledge.. on one occasion when having a heated discussion, i constantly made them refer to the org.
book for the answer, they ridiculed me, saying "are you getting your little green book out again".. all i was trying to point out was the answer (according to the society) on the subject at hand, most organisation will have some sort of code of conduct, the little green book was theirs.. they wanted to be right in all things even if it meant going against the org.. kt.

Mary,
As you can see, they even make money out of you when you have left the Org
KT.
why are elders of a similar mould, they all seam to have the same characteristics .. i can only think they make sure that appointed ones will knuckle down to their (elders) thinking.?.
i remember on one occasion one elder said to me you will never be an elder because you wont agree with the body of elders.. you can see that the apostle paul had a similar problem with the "superfine glorious ones".. 2or 12 v11.. i have become unreasonable.
you compelled me to for i ought to have been recommended by you for i did not prove to be inferior to your superfine apostles in a single thing even if i am nothing.. he puts them in their place when he says "even if i am nothing".

Rutherford 3:15
I’m sorry but I don’t have that version of the bible, I use the Wts edition.
The only Rutherford I know is the one who gave legal advise to Charles Russell, who through various "means" given to him by his secular work experience got him the Presidency.
If that is the same man that you put your future salvation in then perhaps you should read what the bible says on the matter, especially as you seam to have quoted it to me.
Read ; Psalm 146 v 3-4
DO NOT PUT YOUR TRUST IN NOBLES. NOR IN THE SON OF EARTHLING MAN TO WHOME NO SALVATION BELONGS.
He was a man wasn’t he !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
