Congregation had to relocate Memorial...thanks to me

so, the two local congregations were planning to hold their memorial together at 7:30 at the local community center, but they had to make a last-minute change to their own hall, and i'm pretty sure it was because of me.. let me explain.... at work on monday afternoon, a co-worker returned from her lunchbreak and showed me the memorial invitation that was waiitng in her door when she went home for lunch.

i noticed the sticker on the back indicated the memorial was being held, not at the local hall, but at the community center.

from a past (non-jw) event i attended there, i knew they didn't allow alcohol (unless you pay for security guards), so i wrote to the center's coordinator:.

It's funny in a "it's typical JW's" sad sort of way.

I see it all the time at my hall.

You have unskilled, untrained, inept brothers stumbling from one cock-up to the next, simply because their only qualification to take on a task is that they do 10 hours ministry each month.

They 'look after' the K.Hall but have no clue as to legal obligations, they 'attend' not knowing how to handle any incidents, they bodge yearly accounts, screw up anything that that needs some semblance of intelligence, take dangerous shortcuts when storing cleaning materials, spend as little money as possible doing dodgy maintenance tasks with a 'that will do' attitude, fail to maintain a store of legally required first aid items, and they spend the congregations money without it being properly authorised.

The elders are all legal trustees but none of them have a clue what that really means, but they make up rules that they think, in their mentally stunted world, will be good for everyone only for the CO to come and put them right. Again.

It's funny but it's sad. The ability to think for oneself has been replaced with a constant need for concensus.

It also is common to every single K.Hall in the world.

memorial talk - what scripture was cited to validate new claim to stop observing ? Is Manuscript available?

At our memorial, this was read:

(1Co 11:23-26) "For I received from the Lord that which I also handed on to YOU, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was going to be handed over took a loaf 24 and, after giving thanks, he broke it and said: “This means my body which is in YOUR behalf. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” 25 He did likewise respecting the cup also, after he had the evening meal, saying: “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood. Keep doing this, as often as YOU drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as YOU eat this loaf and drink this cup, YOU keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives."

The point was made that this statement was made by Paul to the anointed.

However, read who Paul was actually speaking to in his letter introduction:

(1Co 1:1, 2) "Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through God’s will, and Sos′the·nes our brother 2 to the congregation of God that is in Corinth, to YOU who have been sanctified in union with Christ Jesus, called to be holy ones, together with all who everywhere are calling upon the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:"

Paul addresses his letter to both the anointed and the non-anointed in the Corinthian congregation.

This informs us that the Greek Scriptures were not just for the anointed, and also that non-anointed were present and partaking of the emblems during the first century.

The UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR):

Article 18:

" Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance. "

Article 20:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association."

This declaration was first adopted on Dec 10th 1948 as a consequence of WWII.

The 60th anniversary was in 2008 and the UN had a year long schedule of events around the world to reaffirm their commitment to the values of the UDHR and to disseminate information about the Declaration.

The UN has been very supportive of WT when it comes to upholding their right to worship, preach and other things. For example, this was written by the UN in specific reference to JW's who were being prosecuted by Greece:

"resolution 1989/59 of 8 March 1989 of the Commission on Human Rights of the United Nations, reaffirmed inter alia in 1991 (resolution 1991/65 of 6 March 1991) and in 1993 (resolution 1993/84 of 10 March 1993), which recognizes "the right of everyone to have conscientious objections to military service as a legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion as laid down in article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights" (para. 1) and which recommends to Member States "with a system of compulsory military service, where such provision has not already been made, that they introduce for conscientious objectors various forms of alternative service" (para. 3) which "should be in principle of a non-combatant or civilian character, in the public interest and not of a punitive nature" (para. 4)."

WT is very fortunate to have such a committed organisation willing to defend WT around the world, to enable WT to practise its' religion in freedom.

my ex bf, newly reinstated jw, was texting me that his 75 year old parents (uber dubs) are giving him grief about taking on some debt to buy a new truck to invest in his new job.

they thought he should just resume his old window cleaning biz.

so i told him just to tell them not to worry about the debt since it will be wiped clean in the new system, which is right around the corner.. whoops -- i thought i was being clever but apparently my comment offended him.

Tell him that the Soc are investing in a multi million dollar, multi year project to move upstate in NY, so what he's doing is also shrewd and planning for the future.

Mario Moreno has a case online.

In 2005 he successfully defended the WTBTS against an accident claim, when a sister reversed her car into another sister when on field service.

The defense was that the sisters were there entirely voluntarily, and there was no agency relationship between the WTBTS and the field service group.

This was upheld by the court and the claim failed.
