I think the opposite is happening at the Sri Lankan branch, haven't they just expanded the facilities there?
Anyone know the details?

i'm from jamaica, montego bay to be exact.
if there are other jamaicans here, feel free to let me know.. with that said, it was announced at our last meeting (a letter was read) that the branch office (bethel) in kingston would be closing, and affairs would soon be directed from us hq.
now the branch office here is a large compound built on acres of prime real estate.

i would like to thank everyone for the discussions that we've all had.
after all of them i have realized, all of you have made me realized that after all of the stuff i have been through, i just need a good friend.
and regardless of how hostile our discussion could get i have felt that you have all shared something with me that have helped me.
God bless you Bro Mike.

my question is, why do so many think the watchtower bible tract society is a cult?
.
Final thought:
Why not grow a neat and tidy beard to see for yourself how a cult enforces man made (non-scriptural) rules in order to control elements of peoples lives that it has no right controlling.
You would be spoken to, privileges removed, viewed with suspicion, maybe even asked if you are apostate!
Best that you give up your own preference to comply with the JW law if you ask me.

Hi Brother Mike.
I'm still going to meetings. You never know, i might be giving the talk at your hall this weekend.
The word Apostate is a very powerful one in JW land and is often used to label anyone who disagrees with current JW teachings. By definition, the GB can never be apostate because when they disagree with JW teaching, their new ideas BECOME JW teaching! Odd huh?
Anyway, when you realise how much fear YOU personally have of the WT and elders etc, then you will also begin to realise why some call it a cult.
Agape bro, Splash
what might the wts do to counteract growth stagnation and attrition?.
of course they could ditch certain teachings and practices such as blood, shunning and homophobia.. how about if they closed the kingdom hall network (all proceeds back to mothership) and built out more regional mega-churches?
<assembly halls>.
Billy the Ex: Sell off all the KHs and turn JW.org into a completely online church.
Well they are rolling out a standard internet package to all of the congregations now.
If your hall doesn't have internet already then they are telling you which ISP to get, and if you do have it they are 'suggesting' that you change to their recommended supplier. They are also saying not to buy projectors or screens just yet - they'll let you know what you can buy later.
Wonder why? The letter just says that this arrangement is being made to facilitate the broadcasting of theocratic events.
Let the speculation continue...

Wow, yes! Or a bearded Alan Rickman!

Are you an actor?
I'm sure I've seen you on TV or in a film!

many friends i've spoken with are becoming discouraged.
because of this it's becoming tempting to privately share my views with friends, but i know this is still too dangerous.
most witnesses in my circle are intelligent free thinkers.
@kneehighmiah I am seeing the exact same thing in my congregation and nearby ones.
I have recently been out for meals or other social events with different groups, both locally and away from my own cong.
I'm finding that the latest teachings are constantly discussed with a laugh and an eye-roll.
My take on this is that there are very many who only go for social or family reasons, and if there was an easy way out (no repercussions) there would be a large scale exodus tomorrow.
Meetings are tedious to the point of being a waste of time and effort - not simply my view but those who I speak to and who are actively still 'in'.
The demo's are childish, as is the study material.
If the new GB 2.0 format is anything to go by, it's appealing to the less educated while disengaging the long timers.

this experience goes back some time too.
it was one of the defining moments in helping me to wake up to this nonsense.. .
i had a minor role in a drama several years ago.
This is what happens when people hand over their minds to someone else, even simple decisions become too weighty to make.
Talk about a culture of fear!!

if you allow your child to have a part in the nativity play, it's apostacy.
even if the child just stands there, dressed as a an animal.
with no lines.. even if you've been inactive for several months.. talk about extremes and emotional blackmail!.
Thanks for telling your story Terry.
I'm a very mellow and placid person. The ONLY thing in my life that makes me raging angry is this mindless stupidity from unqualified and empty headed power seekers.
Suffice to say, your story made me angry!
