I've had a personal experience so I cannot agree with the 'superstition' comments.

as a jw were taught all about demons but i never had an incident.
my wife believes wholeheartedly says her family including her has had problems with them.
i have met people that even non religious people that say they have experienced a ghost or a spirit.

my thread was inspired by gentledawn's insightful comment about the effect the events in wales had on her jw husband.... hope any lurkers out there can filter out the signal (storys and experiences like this) to noise (the current trolls running amok on the forums) ratios.
this the problem with those who focus on outrageous fantasies about the watchtower.
it distracts from the real issues that need to be highlighted.. what happened in wales was for real.

you all know the doctrine, it's satan's system, can't participate, voting means putting faith in man instead of god, etc.
if so, if god put them in place, then he put faith in them to handle things to an extent and so if you happen to live in a country where people vote on how that government does things, should they not be voting?
now here is a real contradiction...... as the bible says, it's impossible to get outside of the world.
It's a matter of conscience until someone spots you, then the publicly available doctrine is replaced with the secret elder book doctrine. This is when you can be df'd. It really doesn't matter what's been published in the WT by this stage of the game.

i've reached out and contacted a few of my past friends.
some are still cool as ice, while others have taken on a "i'm better than you" type of attitude.
the first question is usually about becoming a servant, pioneering, or some other facet of service.
JW's live in an insular bubble, one which normality rarely pierces.
Get some new friends.

In the meantime the WT are paying 10% interest on a huge bond.
Thank goodness there's a new tithing system in place for them.

Baptized in '69 so was one of the 1975'ers.
University degree from Liberia. University degree from USA.
Worked for the Liberian government and ran the Liberian police force.
Quite a conflict of interest going on there.
A high achiever nonetheless.

there was a brother in my congregation who was an elder.
he got disfellowshipped about two years ago for looking at child porn and also trying to meet up with a thirteen year old boy online.
he was also arrested soon after this.
I don't think he will be 'cured' when he comes out.

how's these comments in this weeks study?.
i understood that i had neglected my children when they most needed my guidance and affection, admits eduardo.
i had not been there to read them bible stories, to pray with them, to cuddle them, and to play with them.
We have East Europeans in our congregation from Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
I'm sure they felt very comfortable and encouraged as we covered that material.
