It depends on who the brother is taking the item.
If he's a stickler for detail then you're better off using the sample presentation, even if it sounds weird for the area you live in.

eg, WT presentation adapted from the KM.
You: Since God is almighty, do you think that he should be held responsible for all the bad things that happen in the world?
Them: Yes, if he has the power to stop these things but doesn't, that makes Him complicit, doesn't it?
You: Well here at James 1:13 it says "With evil things God cannot be tried, neither does he try anyone"
Them: What does it mean to 'try' someone?
You: It means he doesn't 'tempt' anyone.
Them: But even if He doesn't tempt you directly, He still allows these things to happen.
You: Well this magazine explains why bad things happen and what God will do to end evil and suffering.

You: Sooner or later almost everyone is faced with some type of tragedy, such as a natural disaster, a life threatening illness, or the death of a loved one. When this happens do you think it's important to keep a positive attitude?
Them: I think that humans have a natural grieving process that has to run it's course, despite what we'd like to happen.
You: Many people have found the Bible to be helpful in coping with tragedies. Here in Romans 15:4 it says "from the comfort of the scriptures we might have hope".
Them: What about the billions of people around the world who don't have access to the Bible?
You: This magazine explains how the Bible can help us when we experience a tragedy.

Full-time service is MORE IMPORTANT than taking care of elderly parents!!! It says so in the Sept 2014 WT

paragraph 20 out of the article in the sept 2014 study wt about fulltime service says this.... .

"full-time servants age, and so do their parents.

when parents are witnesses, likely their fondest wish is for their children to stay in their assignments.

Aged full time servants have already given their lives and money to the WT, but that's no longer enough. Those aged ones now need to give their children, and stop being so unwell or demanding.

Old ones can be so selfish!

i hope the discussions and atmosphere here do not change for it is a bubbling brew of doubt, bravery and sincere hunger for answers.

these are healthy ingrediants for humans and especially for a jehovah's witness.. this forum offers not just the ability to ask without consequence, but it also offers the means to be real.

BBC Radio 4 reference to 607 Babylonian conquest?

was listening to bbc radio 4 late sunday night, and in a programme about migration, they referenced the "babylonian conquest of jerusalem in 607 b.c.

" which caught my attention.. did they not mean 587 b.c., or did i understand it wrong?.

What's particularly amusing is that there were two WT articles, the first stating that "generation" does not include babies from that time, then the second stating that the "generation" does include babies.

WT October 1 1978, page 31
"Thus, when it comes to the application in our time, the 'generation' logically would not apply to babies born during World War I."

WT May 15 1984, page 5
"If Jesus used "generation" in that sense and we apply it to 1914, then the babies of that generation are now 70 years old or older. ... Some of them will "by no means pass away until all things occur"."

Of course this is all water under the bridge since time ran out even for babies, so the latest idea had to be bubbled together in a cauldron:

WT April 15, 2010, "Holy Spirit’s Role in the Outworking of Jehovah’s Purpose". para 13 - 14:
"How, then, are we to understand Jesus’ words about "this generation"? He evidently meant that the lives of the anointed who were on hand when the sign began to become evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation."

Now this is a very surprising conclusion to come to, considering the mouthpiece of Jehovah had already firmly refuted, rejected and clearly buried any notion of an overlapping generation, just a few years prior:

WT October 15, 1988 page 4 "The Sign — Are You Heeding It?"
"Might it be, though, that the sign could occur over the span of many human generations? No. The sign is to occur during one particular generation. The same generation that witnessed the beginning of the sign will also witness its climax"

Where to go from here...

i'm new around here, but i've been browsing the site the last few days in hopes of finding the answer to the situation i've been going through, so hopefully you can help me.

i met this girl in highschool, but never really spoke with her until about a year after i graduated.

she's three years younger (however it's legal where i'm from, don't fret) and still a teenager.

Even when she turns 18, 19, 20, 30, 50, whatever, she will only be able to date you if either she leaves the religion or you join it.

If she dates you at 18 she will get serious problems at home and in the congregation.

JW's are a very high control group.
