  JW attitudes to women

  i would be very interested to hear from you ladies on this one.

  i know that the society keeps women in subjugation through the headship cr@p but didn't ahve any sense about hoew prehistoric the attitudes are until the other day when we were driving out of the supermarket car park and my wife spotted a woman dressed in tight shorts (it has been very hot here) and she commented 'they say that women who dress like that dserve to be raped'.

  i did a wtf and overreacted 'how can you blame the victim like that - such attitudes give men a lciense to commit rape and make women feel they are to balme if they get raped which in turn means that rape doesn't get reported and it gopes on with impunity.

  Recent Update - Service Report

  on oct. 22, eight brothers were released from prison in turkmenistan by presidential amnesty.

  (see 2014 yearbook, p. 31) the ninth brother is still imprisoned, but it is hoped that he will be released shortly.

  some were already in prison for three or more years and had been severely mistreated.

  9,845 form submissions out of 363,000 views is 2.7% which is roughly what the yearly increase is.

  Since 2000, 3.8 million have been baptised.
  The increase since 2000 is 2.1 million.
  Where have the other 1.7 million gone?

  Hours spent in ministry this year = 2 billion
  Baptised = 275,000
  Therefore it is taking 7,000 hours (or 10 months of witnessing hours) to make each disciple.
  An average congregation puts in approximately 16,000 - 18,000 hours of ministry per year.

  It's a pity we can't determine born-in baptisms vs from the field baptisms, as this would better represent the ministry effectiveness.
  eg. if 4 out of every 5 baptisms are born ins, this means the number coming in from the field each year is only 55,000.
  That would mean 36,000 hours are needed to bring in one person from the field. That's roughly one person every two years, per congregation.

  jan 27th - thomas edison patents electric incandescent lamp.

  Jun 1st - 1st pay telephone installed
  Jun 16th - Salvation Army forms in London
  Jun 24th - First performance of "O Canada," the song that would become the national anthem of Canada, at the Congrès national des Canadiens-Français.
  Jul 19th - SF Public Library starts lending books
  Aug 2nd - British Parliament officially adopts Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
  Sept - Zion's Watch Tower page 2 tells us that deliverance is very nigh at hand
  Sep 6th - Commencement of 1st Test Cricket in England, v Australia at The Oval

  While I'm posting flip-flops on other threads, here's one about who the glorious ones are.
  Seems they struggle to even know themselves.

  WHO ARE THE 'GLORIOUS ONES' (2Pe 2:10)?

  All anointed - w60 9/1 p. 539 par. 14 Awake Worshipers in the Time of the End
  The "glorious ones" here referred to are not any who are bright and shining in their own eyes or who are glorious in the eyes of others due to their personal achievements. Those who are the brothers of the King Jesus Christ have been selected as heirs of the heavenly kingdom—a glorious privilege indeed!

  All anointed - w65 10/1 p. 592 par. 7 Execution of Divine Judgment upon the Ungodly
  Who are these "glorious ones"? They must be those who receive glory from Jehovah God and his Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. According to Isaiah 60:1, 2, Jehovah's "own glory" would be conferred upon the remnant of spiritual Israel, the anointed Christians.

  Elders - w79 1/15 p. 25 Why Keep Free from Murmuring?
  They were individuals who were "disregarding lordship and speaking abusively of glorious ones," or responsible men in the congregation.

  Elders - w80 1/15 p. 19 par. 10 Are You a Loyal Subject of God's Government?
  Further describing them, the apostle says: "Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble at glorious ones [persons entrusted with oversight within God's congregation] but speak abusively."

  Anointed elders - w82 8/15 p. 28 pars. 14-15 Heed the 'Warnings Placed Before Us'!
  Those ungodly persons also spoke abusively of "glorious ones" (literally, "of glories"), evidently those who had certain glory conferred upon them by Jehovah God and Jesus Christ... 15 Certainly, those of Christ's anointed followers who serve faithfully as appointed Christian overseers have had glory, or honor, conferred upon them.

  Anointed elders - w89 9/15 p. 22 par. 8 Be Obedient to Those Taking the Lead
  Surely, we do not want to be like the "ungodly men" of Jude's day who 'disregarded lordship and spoke abusively of glorious ones,' anointed Christian elders with God-given glory, or honor, conferred upon them.

  Anointed elders - w91 4/15 p. 31 Beware of Apostates!
  Unlike the archangel Michael, who would not even bring a judgment against the Devil in abusive terms, the ungodly men spoke abusively of "glorious ones," evidently those with certain glory conferred upon them by God and Christ as anointed elders.

  Elders - w97 9/1 pp. 15-16 pars. 13-14 Beware of False Teachers!
  Jude writes that "these men, . . . indulging in dreams, are defiling the flesh . . . and speaking abusively of glorious ones." (2 Peter 2:10; Jude 8) In what sense, though, do they "look down on lordship" and speak "abusively of glorious ones"? 14 They do so in that they despise divinely constituted authority. Christian elders represent the glorious Jehovah God and his Son and, as a result, have certain glory conferred upon them. True, they make mistakes, as did Peter himself, but the Scriptures urge members of the congregation to be submissive to such glorious ones.

  Elders - w98 6/1 p. 17 par. 10 "Put Up a Hard Fight for the Faith"!
  But if we dwell on their faults and undermine respect for them, might we be "speaking abusively of glorious ones"? In verse 10, Jude mentions those who "are speaking abusively of all the things they really do not know." Some will, at times, criticize a decision made by a body of elders or a judicial committee.

  Elders - w08 11/15 p. 22 par. 9 Highlights From the Letters of James and of Peter
  While "glorious ones," that is, Christian elders, have faults and may err at times, we must not speak abusively of them.

  Rutherford's last book "Children" 1941- Advice DONT HAVE KIDS...Where it all started!

  watchtower 1941 sept. 15 p.283, 288 "in front of the convention platform the children recieving there free gift (copy) not as a play thing but as the lords instrument for the work in the remaining months before armagedon..." so what lovely message did the kids get from judge rutherford?

  children 1941page 281 "no children were taken onto noah's ark...it is proper to wait until after armagedon to have children...its only afew more years till armagedon..." the book concluded.

  "(john and his girlfriend talk) ...armagedon is surely near our hope is within afew years our marriage will be consumated and we will have sweet children...we will defer marriage and pioneer ...we will not see each other for a time.." thats why i dont have kids it all started with this fools book!.

  The (flip-flopping) history of whether JW's should have children:

  IS IT ADVISABLE TO HAVE CHILDREN?

  NO - Face the Facts (1938) pp.46,50"Would it be Scripturally proper for them to now marry and to begin to rear children? No, is the answer, which is supported by the Scripture. Those Jonadabs who now contemplate marriage, it would seem, would do better if they wait a few years, until the fiery storm of Armageddon is gone"

  NO - Children (1941) p. 312-313"Should men and women, both of whom are Jonadabs or "other sheep" of the Lord now marry before Armageddon and bring forth children? They may choose to do so but the admonition or advice of the scriptures appears to be against it. The three sons of Noah and their wives were in the ark and were saved from the flood. They began to have children two years after the flood. That would appear to indicate it would be proper that those who will form the "great multitude" should wait until after Armageddon to bring children into the world."

  YES - w50 10/15 p. 383 "Be Fruitful, Multiply, Fill the Earth"Since the carrying out of the command to "be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth" waits until after Armageddon, does that mean that those who now marry and rear children are violating God's laws? No, for the Scriptures show that "marriage is honourable in all"

  YES - w51 6/15 p. 362 On Service Tour in New ZealandFrom the Scriptures it was shown that it is proper for Christians to marry and the purpose of marriage is the rearing of children.

  NO - w71 4/1 p. 214 Preach God's Kingdom with the Right ViewpointIn modern times, among the many examples that might be cited is that of the young American couple that had settled down in a fine home and were planning to raise a family. Then one day the husband came home and said to his wife: 'Just what difference is there between us and the people of Christendom? We are contenting ourselves with mere token service when there is nothing to keep us from being in the full-time ministry. Let's quit our secular jobs, sell our home and enter the full-time pioneer ministry.' His wife gulped, for she had been looking forward to the joys of motherhood, to bearing and rearing a number of children. But she went to Jehovah in prayer and asked his help. And he did help her. So they entered the pioneer ministry and in a few years were invited to attend the Gilead missionary school. For some years now they have been very joyful serving as missionaries in a South American country.

  NO - w88 3/1 pp. 21-22 par. 17 Childbearing Among God's PeopleInterestingly, during all this pre-Flood period, Noah's sons and their wives had no children. The apostle Peter specifically states that 'eight souls were carried safely through the water,' that is, four married couples but no children. (1 Peter 3:20) The sons' remaining childless was possibly for two reasons. First... they had a divinely appointed job to do that required their undivided attention. Second, they doubtless felt disinclined to bring children into... a world "full of violence." This is not to say that the course of action taken by Noah's sons and their wives before the Deluge was meant to set the rule for married couples living today. Nevertheless, since Jesus compared Noah's day to the period in which we are now living, their example can provide food for thought.

  NO - Jeremiah book (2010 - Studied 2013) chap. 8 pp. 94-95 par. 7 Will You "Keep Living," as Did Jeremiah?6 What relevance is there in God's command that Jeremiah not marry or have children? Today, some loyal Christians are unmarried or have no children. Consider first that Jeremiah was to remain childless. Jesus did not command his followers to abstain from having children. Yet, it is noteworthy that he pronounced "woe" on pregnant women or those nursing a baby when tribulation came on Jerusalem in 66-70 C.E. That time would be especially difficult for them, given their situation. We now face a greater tribulation. This should add a dimension for Christian couples who are deciding whether to have children. While each couple must decide if they will have children, Jeremiah's case is worth considering.

  An earlier reference saying that in the new system there will be no children:

  QUESTION: Will husband and wife live together after the resurrection is completed, if both are in harmony with God?

  ANSWER: The Scriptures do not reveal what the relationship of men and women will be after the resurrection is completed. The most that we know is that there will be no children born during the last 100 years of the Millennium (Isa. 65: 20), nor any born after that, because men and women do not have children after they reach the age of 100 years.

  a young jw i used to know (nice person), said within earshot to a non df'd ex jw he knew that his "..parents are up and down in the relationship and the elders(tm) are going to help.".

  the non df'd ex jw said to me that he considered that after the elders(tm) get involved his parents were bound to split up.

  the non df'd ex jw also commented: "what do elders know?

  When my wife pioneered she got depression (what a surprise) and missed a few meetings.

  A COBOE phoned me up asking if a couple of elders could come over to help and encourage her.

  I said that simply telling her to just 'do more service, go to more meetings' was not what she needs, and I was going to get her some proper help.

  I don't know if the stunned silence at the end of the phone was because I knew what their 'help' would consist of, or if it was because I turned him down.

  I am confused on the JW's 1000 year reign doctrine. Please explain it to me.

  i have always thanked randy/dogpatch for creating free-minds because i always felt i was the only one that felt that jw's were teaching some nonsense.

  i admit i still think they got some of their teachings correct but one doctrine i think is full of bologne is the 1000 year reign doctrine.

  if jesus came into power in 1914 and now it is 2014 does that mean jws believe it will only be a 900 year reign?

  What happens between 1914 and Armageddon does not count towards the 1000 year reign because it does not include the anointed.

  The start of the 1000 year reign is still future.
