was listening to bbc radio 4 late sunday night, and in a programme about migration, they referenced the "babylonian conquest of jerusalem in 607 b.c.
" which caught my attention.. did they not mean 587 b.c., or did i understand it wrong?.
the link to the programme is below - sorry if you're not in the u.k. as you probably won't be able to listen to bbc programmes.

Even if a correction is broadcast, this reference will now appear in a future WT article about Jerusalem's destruction.

What's particularly amusing is that there were two WT articles, the first stating that "generation" does not include babies from that time, then the second stating that the "generation" does include babies.
WT October 1 1978, page 31
"Thus, when it comes to the application in our time, the 'generation' logically would not apply to babies born during World War I."
WT May 15 1984, page 5
"If Jesus used "generation" in that sense and we apply it to 1914, then the babies of that generation are now 70 years old or older. ... Some of them will "by no means pass away until all things occur"."
.
Of course this is all water under the bridge since time ran out even for babies, so the latest idea had to be bubbled together in a cauldron:
WT April 15, 2010, "Holy Spirit’s Role in the Outworking of Jehovah’s Purpose". para 13 - 14:
"How, then, are we to understand Jesus’ words about "this generation"? He evidently meant that the lives of the anointed who were on hand when the sign began to become evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation."
Now this is a very surprising conclusion to come to, considering the mouthpiece of Jehovah had already firmly refuted, rejected and clearly buried any notion of an overlapping generation, just a few years prior:
WT October 15, 1988 page 4 "The Sign — Are You Heeding It?"
"Might it be, though, that the sign could occur over the span of many human generations? No. The sign is to occur during one particular generation. The same generation that witnessed the beginning of the sign will also witness its climax"

That whole "youngsters fifteen years of age are perceptive enough...." stuff is so 1960's!
Get with the program! Never heard of New Light?
WT October 15 1980, page 31
"It is the generation of people who saw the catastrophic events that broke forth in connection with World War I from 1914 onward ... If you assume that 10 is the age at which an event creates a lasting impression... "
WT May 15 1984, page 5
"If Jesus used "generation" in that sense and we apply it to 1914, then the babies of that generation are now 70 years old or older. ... Some of them will "by no means pass away until all things occur"."
Awake! April 8 1988, page 14
"Most of the generation of 1914 has passed away. However, there are still millions on earth who were born in that year or prior to it. ... Jesus' words will come true, "this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened"."

Good thread. 1914 is the bastard prophecy that WT would love to bury.
The faux love being shown to it will soon pass.

i'm new around here, but i've been browsing the site the last few days in hopes of finding the answer to the situation i've been going through, so hopefully you can help me.
i met this girl in highschool, but never really spoke with her until about a year after i graduated.
she's three years younger (however it's legal where i'm from, don't fret) and still a teenager.
Even when she turns 18, 19, 20, 30, 50, whatever, she will only be able to date you if either she leaves the religion or you join it.
If she dates you at 18 she will get serious problems at home and in the congregation.
JW's are a very high control group.

this morning, i received the following email through my website, watchtowerdocuments.com.
i have no information other than what is stated in the email.
(the information provided in the links has been translated into english.).
How can we find out what the penalty against the WT is?
Will they, for example, have to print the full original picture with an apology?

when i was still serving as an elder in the late summer of 2006 in a congregation of jws in socal we received a letter from the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" (read: the governing body) directing that anyone pursuing a higher education would be disqualified from privileges of service: elder, servant, pioneer, etc.
i remember this quite distinctly because i had just received by ba in education in june a few months before this.
in 2002, i had decided to pursue a degree under the society's then current "it's a personal decision" policy and was quite shocked at their drastic policy change.
luking4change Nice to have you join us, welcome!
You had a choice to make and took a sensible and scriptural path - good for you.
All of these doctrines of men are likely to change again in 5 years anyway, so why disadvantage someone for their entire life just because the current opinion says further education is, for the time being, prohibited.
The Society see university education as an admission of greed, to them there's no concept of any other reason why we would want to be educated, whether it's purely for our love of a subject, to better enable us to get a job, so we can teach the next generation, or whatever. Greed, that's it.
But in the ultimate hypocrisy, when she is qualified the Society would snap her and her skills/knowledge up for their own benefit, as they have done with countless others.

it seems i am going to have to teach people to use a tablet as part of my job and i don't even have one!
any advice would be most helpful please.. i keep reading blurb on amazon etc and now i'm really confused.
what should i buy?
I use android, my wife uses iPad.
I got her the iPad mini because its easier to use, and having used it myself I think its a beautiful tablet - smooth and flawless.
By comparison my nexus 7 android is less simple, the apps less smooth and sometimes less reliable.
Saying that, I'm very happy with my android and prefer its configurabiity.
