hi, i'm new here but hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.
during the "imitate jesus" rc there was a strange moment where they played a video of a brother trying to explain the 1914 teaching.
the brother quickly goes through all the scriptural "proofs" and the householder is dumbfounded.
this isn't a joke and i don't post here often but i had a conversation with my grandma i found comical and thought i'd share.
my uncle lives far away and my grandma wants to go visit him but says she is afraid of the demons in his rental home.
she is afraid a demon might follow her home.
Tell Grandma that you researched this on the Society CD ROM and she's right, demons not only inhabit homes and frighten people by moving clothes around, but some people have even got demons by talking to someone on the phone who lives in a demonised home.
Tell her that letters from one person to another can be contaminated with demons, and the best way to protect herself is to break off all contact until he gets rid of them.
Let them start shunning one another for their stupidity and gullability.

*** TV.JW.ORG May 2015 JW Broadcasting *** - Quotes from Stephen Lett:
08:50 For 130 years this organisation has never solicited for funds and is certainly not going to start now.
11:00 Millions of dollars are required each month to finance the colossal kingdom work.
12:20 We in no way want to be categorised with other organisations that coerce their supporters to donate
12:35 All of us have the privilege to donate funds.
12:45 We have many scriptural examples of Jehovah's servants making known the financial needs.
15:05 In an effort to keep you informed of the support that is needed... We've found that the amount of money flowing out will be much greater than the amount of money that we have coming in.*
17:00 There are some facts we want to make you aware of. The financial needs have accelerated at a rate unlike any time in the past.
20:00 Upwards of 170 Regional Translation Offices are needed... An RTO costs from about $1m to several million dollars each, hence we have another reason we need to increase our finances.
20:40 We just felt that you brothers and sisters needed to be made aware of these expenditures.
26:45 We have confidence that our hearts will be moved to contribute what we can each month.
28:30 We felt... that you would apply Pr 3:27 where we're encouraged "not to withhold what is good"... and this is true even of publishers in less affluent countries.
29:20 If our heart is willing there is something we can usually do even if it's merely two small coins.
29:50 A small donation from each of Jehovah's people adds up to a large amount.
31:30 The Governing Body wanted to make you aware of the financial needs in the world field.
*Luke 14:28, 29 - "Who of you wanting to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expense to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, he might lay its foundation but not be able to finish it, and all the onlookers would start to ridicule him."
"jehovah god is the grand identifier of his true messengers.
he identifies them by making the messages he delivers through them come true.
jehovah is also the great exposer of false messengers.
And while you're at it Diogenesister you might want to show them these:
*** ts chap. 5 p. 46 What Is This Thing Called "Soul"?
***
"It is obvious that the true God, who is
himself "the God of truth" and who hates lies, will not look with
favor on persons who cling to organizations that teach falsehood. And, really,
would you want to be even associated with a religion that had not been honest
with you?"
-- w72 4/1 p.197
"it is easy to say
that this group [Jehovah's Witnesses] act as a 'prophet' of God. It is another
thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the
record. What does it show?"
-- WT 2012 15/06 p.28 para 11: "We never get bad advice from the Bible. Humans, on the other hand, are simply not wise enough to recommend what always works. (Jer. 10:23) Their advice is constantly being revised and updated as they come to realize that earlier advice was flawed. "The thoughts of men," says the Bible, "are as an exhalation."— Ps. 94:11"
in the new world translation of the holy scriptures (revised 2013) at romans 6:7 it uses the word 'acquitted'.
in the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures (1985) it also has 'acquitted' and in the greek word for english word translation part in has 'has been justified' .
the insight on the scriptures (1988) under the heading declare righteous page 803 talking about the original greek words that are translated as justify and justification and can be translated as declared righteous and pronounce righteous it says,.
Rom 6:7 in other translations carries the thought that once you are dead you can no longer carry on sinning.
This is entirely different from the NWT idea that once you are dead all your sins have been paid for.
The two main differences are that
1. Jesus is not needed to cover your sins if you cover them yourself
2. If you die without covering your sins, you will still be judged on what you did in your lifetime.
for many christians, the bible is viewed as the 100% error-free, perfect book straight from god, where every single word was carefully chosen by god for a reason.
but, usually, when you have a discussion on the topic, these christians will end up saying that only the original copies written directly from the hands of the prophets and apostles were error-free, and all manuscript copies since then are subject to copyist mistakes and other errors.. since zero original copies are in existence, how do we know the originals were error-free?
why should we think the originals should be error-free to begin with?
Fisherman But regardless of anyone's view today about that law, does not invalidate the Bible from being inspired.
If the Bible contradicts itself, in your view would that indicate the Bible is not inspired?
If it states something that is provably incorrect, would that indicate it is not inspired?
Even if the Bible was inspired does that actually make a difference to how relevant it is to us today, or does it just mean it was inspired but that adds nothing of substance to it being any more useful as an ancient book?
so something i never knew was the fact jw's were taught that jesus is only the mediator for the anointed class and not for everyone.
i only found this out after reading "crisis of conscience" and i was actually pretty shocked to learn so.
if that is the case, when they pray why even bother saying the words "in the name of jesus christ we ask"?
Datadog has explained the doctrine, the WT teach these two positions:
1. Jesus is mediator for only the anointed.
2. Jesus is intercessor for the non anointed.
This begs the questions Whats the difference? and, before Jesus died who interceded prayers?
i was appointed as an elder when i turned 30, 25 years ago.
which was the norm back then.. now, i very rarely here of a young man becoming an elder.
in our town we have 2 english congregations.
Maybe they have lost Jehovah's holy spirit when it comes to appointments, since they changed the method of appointment away from being scriptural:
The GB - w08 10/15 p. 23 par.
12 Do You Take the Lead in Showing Honor?
"First, it is Scriptural
for "the faithful and discreet slave" through its Governing Body to
appoint men to positions of responsibility."
Circuit Overseers - Letter to Body of
Elders 7/3/14/E
Dear Brothers:
1.
As previously announced, effective September 1, 2014, circuit overseers will be
responsible for the appointment and deletion of elders and ministerial
servants. This letter provides further direction regarding this adjustment.
So if it was 'scriptural' in 2008, did it become unscriptural in 2014, or was it actually unscriptural in 2008 all along?

In the last 25 years at my hall we've had ONE ministerial servant appointed as an elder.
The MS was about 55 when this happened.
In the same time frame we had three elders die from old age and two others reduce their activity on the platform due to age.
The average age of our elder body is now in the high 60's, with no elder under 50.
We had a few elders move in from elsewhere, but that's movement, not increase.
