At Dodger Stadium, in the 70s, they were selling fruit...a young brother was actually holding up a sign that said "fruit bag". Sorry, but that just cracked me up at the time...

On the lighter side.....more gushing
by TR insome on this forum may remember the thread where i was gushing uncontrolably about my daughter graduating high school and receiving her aa from the local community college.
she will be attending gonzaga u. in the fall, btw.. anyway, just gushing a little more.

TR:
I personally love your gushing! You are a proud papa, and I think that's great. Your daughter sounds like a great kid, I am so glad she is going to continue her education.
Even though we lost our daughter to that awful cult, she was her class validictorian, and could have gone to any college she wanted...but she pioneered for four years instead...what a waste!!!
What's your daughter gonna major in, does she know yet? Tell her congrats for me...and keep up the great job of being such a supportive dad!

Hey Andi, you still have that cute figure girl!!
Even under heavy indoctrination, I still used to laugh at all the detailed information in the KM about baptizm outfits...CAUTION - WHITE BATHING SUITS BECOME SHEER WHEN WET!! Well, the brothers wear white T-shirts to perform the baptizm, and some of them had bigger boobs than I do, haha. Almost felt I should have slipped a $20 in their trunks to express my appreciation for the show.

Does This Make Me A Racist?
by Englishman intodays newspapers are full of the le pen story.
much concern is being voiced that right-wing organisations will ride on this story to make their own agendas more widely known, ie, send all the immigrants back home, britain for the british, sod off everyone else!.
now i personally love different cultures.

"So I do sometimes wonder why people from another country choose to emigrate to Britain if they do not intend to adopt the host’s country’s culture and language."
Probably to escape desperate situations in their native country? Starvation, unemployment, ethnic cleansing...just to name a few?
I'm not disagreeing with your view, but why do the British take over other colonies if they do not intend to adopt the "host's" country's culture and language either? All super powers through out history are guilty of taking over “inferior” cultures, and basically pillaging natural resources. I think what's happening in Britain and America is called, in extremely simplistic terms....bad karma, or payback time. Racist…no, a tad myopically egocentric, maybe, IMHO.

In my experience (35+ years in the jw clan), it was about either what the elder's wives compained about, or if you "stood out" for some reason. I was counseled in the early 70's when "midi" (long skirts) were in style...drew too much attention. I was repeatedly counseled about my hair, which is "ethnic". I had to wear it in a bun, because if I wore it down, it looked like "rock band" hair. In the 80's when I wanted to either braid or lock my "ethnic" hair, that was also not considered "modest".
Several elderettes complained that my clothes were too "fitted", of course the fact that they wore 3X size clothes and I wear a size 4 didn't have anything to do with it...basically, if you had a beautiful head of hair and a model's body, you upset the old sisters and you had to hide whatever made them jealous.

I had an interesting experience with Ms. Graves at a district convention. She followed me into the ladies room and threw a note at me over the door. It said that my dress was not "modest" and was "attention getting". My sister-in-law said that she had noticed everytime I walked to the food stand I was working at, Ms. Grave's husband stared at me...I wrote her a note back and said my husband (an elder) and father-in-law (the PO) didn't think there was anything wrong with my outfit. Also, what if I was a newly intereted person? Shouldn't she have talked to me face-to-face, in a more loving manner? What a jerk!

Who would you most like to meet.?
by JBean ini'm just curious...if you had the opportunity, who on this board would you like to meet if given the chance (or could without getting "in trouble"!)?
(could be serious, could be fun...) i for one, am just sooo curious to meet the cat himself... just to find out if he's much different in person than in his online persona!
...and maybe pet him a few times in the process...

On this board so far I've met:
Mulan and her husband, very kind, compassionate people!
Tim and Xena, had a great dinner and wonderful conversation (Xena is beautiful not only outside but inside too).
And Billygoat, so sweet, outgoing and very intelligent.I live north of Seattle and part of the year in Maui...would love to meet any of you in the Northwest area.

Memorial 2000 was the last time I step foot in a kingdom hall. We were visiting Hawaii and went to the local hall. We had been very irregular six months prior to this. Well, even in friendly Hawaii, we still saw the typical cliques, especially divided between the "local" bros. and the white brothers. And as is typical, the sisters were just checking out my clothes and jewelry, but not bothering to introduce themselves.
Well, they did me a big favor, because I had been thinking if we relocated and found a "loving" congregation, things might be different...I still kick myself for it having taken so long for me to realize their brand of conditional love is the same everywhere.

Patio34, you stated "It seems to me that it's impossible to determine whether the JWs had any influence on this person's actions. JWs may attract a certain amount of disturbed individuals because of their unique perspective. Was he disturbed before becoming a JW or became so afterwards?"
I just have to say that your words really disturbed me!! I have had several active jws say the exact same thing about my daughter's suicide. Only in her case, she left THREE suicide letters, all stating her fear of displeasing Jah and being removed from his organization. Yet, people will still try to intimate that she was mentally disturbed, (apparently this didn't prevent her from being a regular pioneer for four years and on every local assembly).
I've heard it said that there aren't too many easy ways to leave the organization, but that suicide is one quick, easy way. Comments like yours make me wonder if I'll ever get beyond losing my daughter, my family, my lifelong belief system (as worthless as it was), all my friends and acquaintances (also as worthless as they were); or if I'll have to take the easy way out too. But I'm just to proud and stubborn to do it because I know somewhere, someone will say "she was mentally unstable, it must have run in her family", it couldn't have had anything to do with being spiritually sodomized all her life.
Patio, I don't know anything about you, or if you have any experience with suicide...just thought I'd let you know how your comment affected me. I'm angry, but not too proud to give you the benefit of the doubt.
YoYo your quote "I hate the person that I've become because of sinning. I don't deserve, at this time, to be part of Jehovah's people" sounds very familiar, I can only imagine the amount of pain you are in. All I can say is what I wish I could have said to my daughter...there is no sin you could commit that would ever make me stop loving you. If a puny human can love like that, don't you think god could?
