  do we have a double standard as far as jws are concerned?

  yes, i know that their claims of being better than any other religion sets them up for higher expectations.

  and yes, generally jws are judgemental.

  Most of the time I just feel sorry for JWs, the majority of them have had all fellow feeling indoctrinated right out of them. I was a JW for 35+ years, but when my daughter died 99% of them kept their feelings of compassion at check, until they concured with the local elders exactly how they should react.

  I would say in my experience, the majority are sincere...sincerely brainwashed, sincerely wrong and capable of the most inhumane treatment of their fellowman.

  Daughter counselled on dating a wordly guy

  my daughter recieved this email from one of her witness "friends".

  she is counseling my daughter (indirectly) about her choice to date a "worldly" guy.. hey, so, we had a talk recently that was about love & respect in your marriage.

  the brother brought out that this was more for us witnesses rather than worldly people, because it seems that even in the truth now marriage has lost it's correct place.

  S ee, she had dated this brother for a while, but things didn't turn out the way she hoped. And then it seemed that all of her friends were getting married, when she had hoped that she would be too. And I know that's a really hard thing to deal with. But that's absolutely no excuse to go and date a worldly guy.

  It is so hard to be a young woman in this cult. If you are not married by 18, its slim pickings and you are considered an old maid....desperation time. My daughter was 21 when she took her own life. I know that the fact that all of her friends were either engaged, married, or married with children already placed a great deal of pressure on her. She was a regular pioneer for four years, and didn't have any brothers show interest in her. She met a "party witness", a young unbaptized man that enjoyed providing alcohol to young witness girls at parties. She gave in to her natural feelings of wanting to be in a relationship. Her "friends" told the elders about it, they threatened to disfellowship her, and the next day she took her life.

  Please tell your daughter I wish my daughter had been able to find a nice "worldly" guy and have a happy relationship. I wish your daughter all the happiness and joy she deserves! Don't let this crazy cult member make her feel bad for doing the most natural thing in life, loving someone and being loved back...

  Hey LB, we will be there the last week of June through the middle of July, then to the Chicago area for Makena's 30th High School reunion!!

  Razorblade, I've been to Eleuthra (sp?) in the Bahamas, it has a pink sand beach that's part of the Club Med. One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the year we went the main road was washed out by a huge storm, the northern tip of the island was unaccessible by car. I'm curious, why do you recommend it for singles?

  I enjoyed the way they showed all the previous years' best actors and actresses, before announcing this year's winner. I thought Haley Berry made too big a deal of her win last year....but after seeing all the past winners....all white faces, it was quite shocking to see her black face in the end.

  Haley took the unexpected kiss from the best actor winner quite well. I noticed Nicole tried to get Densel to give her a kiss when she got her oscar...he have her a half hearted peck...hehehe. Sorry, milktoast Nicole doesn't do a thing for me. I was rooting for Selma, she was incredible in Frida, my favorite movie of the year. (Stepping off soap box now)

  Wouldn't ya know it, my son's girlfriend lives a block behind the local KH. Everytime I drive by I get very naughty ideas of various forms of vandalism....I just laugh it off now, but at first it made me physically ill to have to drive by. I do look at how cars are parked and how many are out in service, then thank my lucky stars to be free at last!

  I think for a 46 year old I have pretty diverse tastes, some of the cd's I've bought this year are: No Doubt's Rock Steady, Kylie's Fever, Sheryl Crow's C'mon, C'mon, JLo's Remix and a Global Hits 2002 which I love to exercise to. I also love Alice in Chains, I was so upset when the lead singer died, I loved his voice. I love latin style pop like Santana, and Mana. Jimmy Hendrix always raises my blood pressure a few knotches. I guess I just love music I can move to, I don't usually listen to music to chill out or meditate...maybe when I'm 76.

  why is it that there are more woman than men in the organization?

  in my congregation there was much more woman than men.

  it was about 60-65% woman.

  JH, I don't have an answer as to why, but my first four years in the cult was in a Spanish cong. and it was mostly women and a few white elders that spoke ok spanish.

  When I've visited the congs. in Hawaii, I noticed the same thing, mostly women and imported white elders. Seems the ethnic men have very little interest in "reaching out" or even attending. I think in these cultures religious devotion seems to be the woman's job....
