Is the WTBTS racist?

in australia there are separate congregations for aboriginal witnesses.

the official line is that the nonwitness aboriginals are more responsive to other aboriginals.

that may be so, but that doesn't mean that they should be kept separate for meetings.

I found your post quite interesting. I'm from the "deep south" USA and I'm sure you've heard about our problems with racism...why, a few years back, we even had a big war over it! (which we lost-thank goodness!)
Anyway, racism does still seem to be problematic here in the south although it is gradually getting better, I think (I hope). When I was a kid, we had segregated meetings..can you imagine?? But fortunately, that was corrected and for most of my life, I had black witness friends who went to the same congregations I attended. And, as much as I despise the WTBS, I can't really say that I saw any evidence of racism on their part as I grew older. On the other hand, I did believe everything they told me...so I doubt that I would have been able to pick up on it...today, I am extremely sensitive to racism and other types of prejudices and they truly disgust me...

one of my regrets about my 20 year stint of jw-dom is that i got rid of a lot of my 'questionable' music.

i have always loved all kinds of music, and i've been an avid collector for as long as i can remember.. some of the recordings i had i will probably never see again.

i deeply regret my decision to get rid of some of my favorite items.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! I could not for the life of me remember what the stupid reason was!! And you make a great point...I've never even thought of...why ISN'T the clitoris ever represented???? And you know, come to think of it, there were a heck of a lot of things that, according to the great white WBTS, resembled penises....yet I can't recall a single prohibition against depictions of breasts! LOL

Great topic...I remember when I was a kid (I'm 35 now!), about 9 or 10 years old, my mother bought me a silver ring with intertwined hearts on it from Avon...it wasn't worth much but it was my first piece of "real" jewelry and I loved it. I had it for about a week when there was an ass-embly part having something to do with hearts being something "true christians" should avoid for some half-assed reason I can't remember. My mom made me throw my ring away...within a few months, the whole "heart" fiasco had blown over but I was SOL b/c the ring was gone...
Funny, isn't it? I still remember that all these years later....

Just a female thing?

since drifting from the org over the last year or so i have been slowly updating my clothes.

i thought maybe it was just me who had been dressing like a middle aged matron since i was 23 but whilst talking to a young xsister recently i learnt that she too has thrown out most of the clothes she used to wear whilst a dub.. has anyone else found themselves doing this, and is it just a female thing?

I have no tattoos (Safe=wimp!) but I do have my ears pierced..right ear 4 piercings and 2 in the left.
I am proud to say I NO LONGER OWN ANY DRESSES, PANTYHOSE, OR SENSIBLE SERVICE SHOES!!!! Hehehehehe and I'd burn my bras if going without didn't hurt so much...sigh

troubled [in need of answers]

today, i had a long, long talk with my employer.

this person is some one who can seperate work and personal things, so after feeling like i needed to talk to someone, and soon, before i crack up, i went to her and dropped the bomb.

she is not a witness, and because i cannot talk to a witness about what i have learned, for fear of the df'ing thingy, i feel safe in talking to her.

I am sorry to hear that things are so tense for you right now. I was married to a non believer for many years and, strangely enough, we split up AFTER I left so I don't really have any words of wisdom to help you with. I definitely do encourage you to go to counselling as that will help you see things with more perspective. I have to echo what has already been posted: act with love and that will mean more than anything you can say. But stay true to yourself, Zev...you won't do your wife any favors by doing anything else.

i love you guys.. abaddon's and ldh's recent posts hit close enough to home that i decided to post again.. i think the selected memory and split personalities go hand in hand.. the selected memory helps keep the cult personality happy and gleaming no matter what damage the suppression does to the real human or the real human's family and friends.. a couple of years ago i was talking about my childhood with my parents and they both acted stunned when i said i was still angry with them because they didn't want me to go to college (i gave up several scholarship offers, etc.

to become a pioneer and eventually go to bethel).

Thanks for the information...when I get a chance, I'll check out your site but I have to agree with the stupidity of the mindset people have today that whatever their translation says must be accurate...is it impossible to accept that translators may have erred?? Human nature being what it is, I would imagine those who have translated the bible into contemporary languages could not help but to be influenced by their own beliefs...

I understand that you are probably a very young person...obviously a very unhappy person and my heart goes out to you. But let me share something with you: a person who is so deeply homophobic almost ALWAYS is that way because they cannot bear to deal with their own feelings of attraction for others of their own sex. To put it plainly, homophobia generally exists in a person because they have homosexual feelings; is there something you are in denial about that you want to share with us?
Secondly, and I may come under fire from certain ones but I have a hard time believing the bible is anything but a mixture of history, myth, and creative imaginings. What I do know is that it is responsible for a great deal of human suffering. "Call Jah a liar"...part of your post Logical...hard to know if he's a liar or not since I've never heard him say anything....

You might be happier if you stop attacking people and let them help you...

Hi JC,

Interesting post...I remembered that the society loved to attack the Catholic Church but it's always nice to have the proof in front of me. Couple of things...I agree with Joel and Bill that just because a man is gay doesn't mean that he's also a pedophile. In fact, most pedophilic cases I've heard of involved apparently straight men molesting children. I do know personally of one case where a homosexual male molested several boys...incidentally, he was an elder in one of the congs I attended growing up. But I also wanted to say that, when I read your post, I didn't get the impression you were attacking gays but rather pointing out the hypocrisy of the JWs. I think the Catholic church has been utterly disgusting for the way they've handled allegations of child abuse...but I have never heard of them pointing the finger at other religions...to me, the JWs are twice as guilty and reprehensible.
