Hey riz and outnfree...I love your posts...and I so agree with you now. You know that old witness saw "keep your eyes on the prize"? Well, isn't it wonderful to have the freedom to look around this beautiful world we live in, to open our minds to new ideas, new people, new attitudes and new behaviours?? If I had to pick only one thing that is best out of all the above, it is the way I am able to raise my children...NO FEAR! And no bulls**t religious teachings...
I too am trying to figure out what I think and believe about "LIFE" and while I don't have many answers yet, it's such an interesting journey!

Language course for Aussie BBQ (Lesson 2)

as you all know, those of us who are in the confines of the penal colony of new south wales will be getting together for a bbq gettogether next sunday may 27th.

Hey Waiting and Patio...You guys are sisters?? That's so cool! My sister posts here too, in fact, she's the one who turned me onto this site.
Metatron...I agree with you, great post.
JanG...I understand that whole discipline thing you wrote about...I was raised very strictly and corporal punishment (and beyond) was "lavished" upon us. When I had my son, I remember being in the mother's room at the hall..he was fussing (around 6 mos. old) and I was sitting back there actually kind of glad he was making noise as I was able to escape from the incredibly boring meeting and chat with other mothers Anyway, an elder's wife...I will NEVER forget this...kindly offered me some advice...she told me that it was never too early to start disciplining our children, training them in how to behave at the KH...and then shared that she had spanked her daughter when she was only 6 mos. old!!!!! I was aghast. I didn't tell her what I thought of such abuse but I sure as hell was determined that my children would not be subjected to what I had gone through as a child. I did spank my kids for a few years(but NOT as babies!) but they were pretty young when I left (thank the cosmos!) and I made the decision that I would not use physical violence to discipline them. But I do remember the times that I spanked them and then cried with them...interestingly enough, I have been using alternate forms of discipline with my kids for a few years now and they are pretty good kids (so far ...

"Not of Our Sort" Part I

i am an old man.. this is a topic i have been comtemplating for some time as i continue in this transitional time of my life, reminiscing about my 50+ years with what some of you call the "borg", but i simply refer to as jehovah's witnesses.. good people i have known who loved god, but did not fit into the organizational scheme of things is the topic.

there will be at least three parts a la amazing.

this topic will sink out of sight like a rock, but it is therapeutic to write it and the contemplation brings a smile to my face.. my first subject is b.w.. b.w.

Thanks for sharing your remembrances of your friend with us. The thought that struck me while I was reading (I should say...ONE of the thoughts) was how truly good people do seem to go unnoticed in the congs. At least, that was my experience. And that realization helped me when I was making the break from the borg....that there were good people everywhere, I had only to raise my eyes and my awareness to find them...

What is an apostate?

the meaning of 'apostasy' given in my dictionary is "abandonment of religious faith, vows, principles or party".

i used to think that only cults considered leaving their religion to be apostasy, but according to my dictionary, as quoted above,everyone who changes their religion is technically an apostate.

so were those of us who changed from other religions to become jws apostates then?

i used to think that only cults considered leaving their religion to be apostasy, but according to my dictionary, as quoted above,everyone who changes their religion is technically an apostate.

so were those of us who changed from other religions to become jws apostates then?

I am definitely a heretic! And, according to my dictionary, also an apostate...Webster's defines apostasy as "an abandoning of what one has believed in, as a faith, cause, principles, etc." I used to be a boring ol' witness, trudging these hot Florida roads with wrinkled magazines and wrinkled pantyhose....but now I'm so many cool things!! A heretic, an apostate, and a rebel! Yeehaw (nope, that ain't yahweh backwards )

the official line is that the nonwitness aboriginals are more responsive to other aboriginals.

Dave and Esther both...very good points you make...
Esther: esp. about the lack of opportunity to make friendships...how can they truly be part of the "brotherhood" if they're kept seperate? You know, that was part of the law in the south for awhile...it was called "equal but seperate"...which meant to the white "bosses" that blacks were equal, they just couldn't drink from the same water fountains...or ride the same buses...or go to the same schools...but, by god, they sure were equal!
Dave: I love your sarcasm...and you make some great points, as well. What I am wondering about all of this is who made the decision to keep the Aboriginals seperate? Did they have any say in the matter? Is it what they want?

I'm sorry folks...saying that they should be in their own congregations because they "relate" better to their own people just doesn't sit right with me...it sounds too much like double speak...and smacks of control...and various other nasties that have already been mentioned.
