Went to see Grease at the cinema in '78 - '79 with my pioneer partner. It was considered to be a very wicked film Then my pioneer partner told the CO we had been to see it, she thought that was hilarious thing to do because she was far more rebellious than me. Funny thing is I am pretty sure she is still in.

What was the most rebellious thing you did while you were a devout jw?
by DuvanMuvan ini was just thinking about how humans being imperfect and satan's influence was the root of everything bad that anyone has ever done.
well i know that apparently everyone is vulnerable which got me thinking about what "bad" things people have done while they were a jw.
i'll start it off.

I just got to play householder!
by Laika ini was a little nervous and a bit dazed, i think i will do better next time.
he offered me the memorial invite, i told him i had jw family who would invite me and he got interested and wanted to find out more, so i told him i wasn't interested in the jw religion, he asked why and i said i find it too controlling.
he thought i was talking about moral rules so started on about how jehovah doesn't want to restrict us 'blah blah', so i pointed out that i meant they're not allowed to read certain materials which is wrong if it's as true as they are confident of.. he then went on about how satan uses false teaching to manipulate us and so we have to be careful of what we read.

Laika you did well. How can we get past this belief in Satan? They really have had a number done on them, as they did on us. I remember being told Satan keeps transforming himself into an angel of light, so in other words it's impossible for a JW to judge good teachings from bad, they have to be told by the GB. Wow they have tied this religion up so tight it's a wonder anyone gets out.

P R O U D of H E R: Daughter's column in the New York Times
by humbled inshe called last night to say it's online now, front page.
it'll be in the print version sunday.. not everyone's cup of tea, at first consideration: she is slightly embarrassed to be featured in the modern love column in the style section.. the times people asked to make a short video of her article "fight or flight".
they went to her bronx apartment to talk to her.

Scriptural Grounds for Divorce - Unbelievable story
by Comatose ini personally know the individual involved closely, this is not a rumor.
this is what happens when you let three unqualified guys decide whether or not you get to ever date again with jehovah's blessing.. a young man finds out his wife is cheating on him by seeing texts on her phone.
he knows the person she is cheating with.

So she admits to having an affair and goes to live with this man. After living with him for a month JW elders still do not have sufficient proof that she is having an affair?! Are they stupid? Why do they always have to have more proof than the law of the land demands?

Thanks cantleave, it sounds like things have changed since I first asked about it. Well done you, that must have been a real psychological barrier that you broke through.

I like it, they give you fear and then you find it's a harmless advert, which makes you smile. At least I think it would make me smile

Are You Raising An Introvert?
by darth frosty inits not easy being an introvert in an extrovert worldespecially when youre a kid.
it is even more difficult if none of the adults in the kids life recognize that the child is an introvert.
this doesnt happen only when the childs parents are extroverts, but also with introverted parents who have never understood their own introverted nature.. .

I have been reading Quiet, the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking by Susan Cain. Really interesting, she says that western cultures value people who can talk and who are bold and extrovert and they dismiss introverts as shy and insular. Eastern cultures have very different values. They value people who can think a problem through without quite so much noise.

cantleave it is something I have thought of doing but have been put off by stories that it is a very lengthy process to begin with involving endless medical questions and many forms to fill in. Is that still true?
