Welcome from the UK Make Lemonade. Well done for standing up for what is right. Sorry they put you through it but at least you got to see their true colours. Ice water in their veins indeed, we have all experienced that. Pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

Are witnesses the best behaved people in the world?
by speargrass55 inhi everyone, i was discussing with a family member recently and was encouraged to at least consider the benefits of being raised in the truth.
for example,i'm not a drunk, don't do drugs, respect others etc.
the point is i've found lots of nonwitness friends who have similar behavior.. growing up, when a worldly person does something good like help someone i'll hear things like "that's nice of him, for a nonwitness.

In my JW family there's a guy who stole from his employer and got the sack, a woman who cheated on her husband and another woman who hated her husband and showed it for her entire marriage. Which is the person they shun? You guessed it, the woman who just doesn't believe in the teachings anymore.
By the way jamclark they are all well-dressed and I assume they have clean homes although I have never seen their homes.

the bible and its prophecies
by Crazyguy ini have been doing a lot of research on the bible and its roots so to speak and its becoming clearer that the jews like other races took gods and stories from others and made them their own.
its also become clear that many of the books were written later then stated, like daniel probably written about a hundred years before christ and some of it maybe even after.
but what i don't get is the prophecies.

A word study of "caught up together" may shed some light on "Rapture"...
A study of the development of religion from an anthropological point of view would be more beneficial. We had to learn about the world from the moment we, as a race, began to perceive more than the need for food, shelter etc. We made sense of the world as best we could two thousand years ago. To cling on to the answers we came up with two thousand years ago in light of the things we have since found out is - well I am not going to be rude - it's your choice.

yhwh
by Crazyguy inwe have been told that this yhwh is the symbol for gods name and that they the jews didn't use his name because it was so special.
history shows that the name was banned for a time before the maccabees and after it was to sacred to say.
there is a problem with this idea though and that is, in older writings of the name dating back to around 1400 bce in egypt the name yhw was found and yhwh was also found on a moabite stella also very old.

Perhaps it should be pronounced Yourway as in you're in charge, do it your way

What was the most rebellious thing you did while you were a devout jw?
by DuvanMuvan ini was just thinking about how humans being imperfect and satan's influence was the root of everything bad that anyone has ever done.
well i know that apparently everyone is vulnerable which got me thinking about what "bad" things people have done while they were a jw.
i'll start it off.

Went to see Grease at the cinema in '78 - '79 with my pioneer partner. It was considered to be a very wicked film Then my pioneer partner told the CO we had been to see it, she thought that was hilarious thing to do because she was far more rebellious than me. Funny thing is I am pretty sure she is still in.

I just got to play householder!
by Laika ini was a little nervous and a bit dazed, i think i will do better next time.
he offered me the memorial invite, i told him i had jw family who would invite me and he got interested and wanted to find out more, so i told him i wasn't interested in the jw religion, he asked why and i said i find it too controlling.
he thought i was talking about moral rules so started on about how jehovah doesn't want to restrict us 'blah blah', so i pointed out that i meant they're not allowed to read certain materials which is wrong if it's as true as they are confident of.. he then went on about how satan uses false teaching to manipulate us and so we have to be careful of what we read.

Laika you did well. How can we get past this belief in Satan? They really have had a number done on them, as they did on us. I remember being told Satan keeps transforming himself into an angel of light, so in other words it's impossible for a JW to judge good teachings from bad, they have to be told by the GB. Wow they have tied this religion up so tight it's a wonder anyone gets out.

P R O U D of H E R: Daughter's column in the New York Times
by humbled inshe called last night to say it's online now, front page.
it'll be in the print version sunday.. not everyone's cup of tea, at first consideration: she is slightly embarrassed to be featured in the modern love column in the style section.. the times people asked to make a short video of her article "fight or flight".
they went to her bronx apartment to talk to her.

Scriptural Grounds for Divorce - Unbelievable story
by Comatose ini personally know the individual involved closely, this is not a rumor.
this is what happens when you let three unqualified guys decide whether or not you get to ever date again with jehovah's blessing.. a young man finds out his wife is cheating on him by seeing texts on her phone.
he knows the person she is cheating with.

So she admits to having an affair and goes to live with this man. After living with him for a month JW elders still do not have sufficient proof that she is having an affair?! Are they stupid? Why do they always have to have more proof than the law of the land demands?
