galileo is said to have uttered, or probably muttered these words in front of the inquisition after supposedly having reacanted his teaching that the solar system is heliocentric, as his predecessors kepler and copernicus had worked out.

(and a guy in 3rd century b.c greece !).

why was galileo unable to go back to his belief held by him in his youth, and nearly all people in christendom, that the earth was at the centre of the solar system and all the planets revolved around it ?.

Very true and even though losing family and friends to the cult is very painful at least we don't have the threat of being tortured to death by the Roman Inquisition unless we recant, which was what Galileo faced.

The pertinent point for many faders here, I feel, is that Galileo did recant publicly to save his life but privately he continued to believe in heliocentrism. He didn't have a scientifically enlightened world to go out to in his world dominated by the Catholic church but we have reality and freedom waiting for us when we leave the cult. However if you can get out with your family intact using intelligent strategy why wouldn't you?

when i learned ttatt, it became obvious that the wtbts was not god's organization.

it became obvious that if the bible was true, the wtbts's teaching on the "anointed" were false.

when bethel serves pancakes, do they give you a choice?

is it only 1 choice.

it sure would be a deal breaker for me if i didn't get to choose between bacon, or sausages.

My mother always gave us pancakes with sugar and orange juice. Don't know if that's a London thing which is where she grew up.

Quorn bacon style slices are surprisingly good with scrambled eggs and toms.

as i was saying before the watchtower literature trolley has arrived in my little town.... my wife and i were in town this afternoon and i saw one of my former elder colleagues standing beside the trolley talking to a young man and reading to him from one of their books.

ray was one my least favourite people - he was everything that is bad about jw elders.

i went up to them and interrupted and told the man that this is a cult recruitment campaign.

He wanted to discuss creation but his best argument was "there are still monkeys in the zoo" so I decided it would have been an unfair fight.

Which they wouldn't have done because they didn't realise they were being manipulated by a cult. Very sad for the beneficiaries of the estate who were probably this couple's children and grandchildren.

I still have a dented sponge flan tin that I threw accross the kitchen at my young husband all those years ago. Wow, we had some wonderful rows then! Fortunately it hit the wall and not him.

I am totally indignant about injustice and cruelty in this world, off the scale! I am just fed up waiting for a god to do anything about it so I do my drop in the ocean bit giving to charity and volunteering.

That's not because I'm self righteous but because I really believe all those drops do add up to an ocean. There are 7 billion of us, there's nothing we can't achieve, people power!

What makes me most indignant is millions of cultists being told to do nothing because they have to wait for a god. I was one of them, wasting my money, time, energy!
