WHATSGOINGON thank you for answering my question of several days ago, where did the film come from and did the GB approve it. So it looks like it was privately done and shared outside bethel without the GBs approval. Still find it odd that with all the effort needed to get the cooperation of all those departments and 900 participants, this was just meant for bethel. Or does he mean it was just meant for JWs, more indoctrination for the R + F , we are the happiest people in the world blah, blah, blah, only it got out on the web?

I like making up my own purpose. It changes over the years. At differerent times I have been obsessed with leaving home, finding a partner, having a child, getting a degree, finding the job I really wanted to do. At the moment I want to get the damn garden straight and looking beautiful. I would also like to visit as many countries as I can before I am too old.
Some people are obsessed with collecting stamps, playing the bagpipes or breeding chihuahuas. Each to their own.
There's no need to feel lost without religion telling us why we are here. I would hate someone to tell me what the purpose of my life should be now. The thought of some religious leader telling me why I'm here and what I have to do for my life to have purpose horrifies me.

Absolutely, at the very least you can better understand the person who has introduced the idea to you. Perhaps you might begin to have a whole new perspective on life if you entertain a thought you might previously have dismissed out of hand. Where would philosophy and theoretical physics be without the thought experiment.

HOW EXACTLY does god communicate with or direct the GB?
by stuckinarut2 inwe're all familiar with the organisations claims (and have seen the flow diagrams in books and mags) that the gb is "directed by god".
in turn, the local elders are "directed by god".
so, how exactly do they suppose this happens?

Always wondered about this but we were not supposed to ask. It seemed to me like spiritualism, God talking to them, giving them messages. Anyway as we all now know they just make it up as they go along and people live or die because of it. What a power trip! -

so feeling lonely and been pushed by her sister (active witness) after not stepping in a hall for 20 years she went to a sunday meeting.
one meeting where she had the surreal experience of having to watch a "special talk" on jw tv.

vaccination works primarily on herd immunity.

I think the deafness and blindness charity Sense in the UK said the main cause of children being born deaf and blind is mothers catching rubella in pregnancy. A very sad result from not vaccinating children. -

Oh yeah that's how the GB want women, barefoot and pregnant and keeping their mouths shut 'I do not permit a woman to teach'!
Somehow we are responsible for everything that is wrong in the world because Eve was deceived. So Adam was not deceived and wilfully disobeyed but still men can be the head of the house? It must be because I am so emotional and illogical that I can't understand this.

Excellent answer. There are so many disgusting diseases on this planet from river blindness to leprosy, how can anyone be in charge? I do love the way Stephen engages with the question and says he wouldn't want to know a god who professes to be loving and yet creates such misery. Adam and Eve and fans being switched off and slowly winding down a la JW teaching just don't cut it.
