I haven't watched the video yet but a quick question. If Rome invented Jesus and Christianity why did Rome, and Nero in particular, persecute them?

Well as we know there is a only a paragraph in Tacitus about Nero persecuting the Christians. It hasn't been an interest of mine up to this point but it would be intriguing to know what all the primary sources are for Rome persecuting the Christians. I have long understood that Tacitus is one of the key primary sources for the existence of Jesus apart from the Bible but if that is true there is precious little to go on there. If anyone wants to know what Tacitus says or the page number I have it on my shelf just let me know.

Also people often quote scholars as evidence for the existence of Jesus or Paul but I was taught when you study history you have to ask yourself is this secondary source unbiased? What agenda does this person have? When people quote scholars on here for proof of Jesus or the apostles please take a moment to notice if they are devout Christians.

Are MOST JW's lacking Moral Fibre ?

i find that whether born in or converts, most jw's give their own conscience over to the gb (and writing dept) to dictate how they will react to any moral question.. they simply lack a conscience of their own.. this is not their fault, we should not look down on them for this, their conscience, their natural feeling of what is right and wrong has been:.

stolen from them !.

we all know how the cult does this to them, it did it to us, i really am almost in tears when i think that had either of my darling children needed a blood transfusion i would have resisted, believing what i have been taught all my life, that their eternal life was more important than their life now.. how can we persuade jw's to take back their conscience ?.

I read a book about helping people recover from torture. It said in totalitarian countries once a person has been tortured into betraying their own families or friends they are finished, morally broken, because the guilt just destroys them.

Watchtower-free that's really interesting. I came across this idea talking to my manager about Christianity at the second job I had after leaving the cult over twenty years ago. He had two degrees and a PhD and he said perhaps Jesus had been a concept. Sounded really odd to my uneducated ears at the time but after studying history I do know how difficult it is to prove anyone existed. I will do more research on it now, I didn't know so many books had been written about it.

I expect those still in are having exactly the same conversations about 'that phrase about the millenium'. Which is just what the GB intended. Perhaps that will keep the cult going a few more years.

What level of IQ does one have, to beleive " TRUTH " changes. ? or old "Light " old truths " New Light " new truths " ?

okay, i never went to university , or had a college education, though i`m damn sure that "truth" is "truth" and it never changes.. if you" beleived "something was the truth in the past and now found out it was not correct , you cant say it was an" old " truth ,it must have been wrong/false reasoning in the first place......so it was never really the truth.. sure you can be aware of a "new" truth something you never knew beforehand , though whether you knew it or not ,it has always been a truth.

example:the earth was the centre of the universe ,beleived as a truth.........that beleif was false , it was not an old truth.. if their was something you beleived before as true and you now find it wasnt true , then it was false / untrue .. their is no such thing as an "old truth " and a "new truth" that is apparently accepted by jehovahs witnesses .. if jehovahs witnesses were as honest as they profess , then they would acknowledge when they make adjustments to their beleifs/doctrines that they were wrong in their initial understanding of said scriptures instead of passing it off as old truths or new light.. i was a witness for 33 years before it became obvious something was just not right with this religion and it took another 10-12 years before i found this site , that set me free.

so i ask , is it an iq level ?

I don't think I have misunderstood you Smiddy. You gave the example of the geocentric model of the cosmos that was never true, you said. When Copernicus proposed the heliocentric model and Galileo championed it the latter was dragged before the Roman Inquisition. The 'truth' has been subjective for many millennia especially where religion has been involved.

Actually the study of the stars which was once used for foretelling the future did lead to modern-day astronomy. That some still believe it can be used to foretell the future does not detract from the amazing things cosmologists are now finding out. It is not true there is no connection between ancient incorrect ideas of astrology and modern day astronomy.

I know that you don't see it as truth changing but what I am saying is, truth, as you like to call, is only what we understand to be the correct facts now. We may find at a future date that we need to change our understanding as science progresses. Really I was answering the op that truth may not change as reality is what it is. However our understanding of reality changes and humans will say at any given time that an idea is 'truth' but that idea, scientific theory etc. may change.
