The origin of the word Lullaby
by StarTrekAngel inreading around the subject of lillith, the alledged, rebel first wife of adam, i stumbled upon this link and many others that link the custom of singing babies to sleep as an ancient jewish superstition.. http://www.jeanniemusick.com/lilith-world/lilith-as-the-origin-of-the-lullaby/.
some of the research could probably be argued but looking at it from the wt perspective and mirroring their usual reasoning, i could imagine the following.... ... it appears that the word "lullaby" originates from the the hebrew "lilith-abi", which means "lilith be gone".
jewish mothers used to sing these songs to their babies in bed in hopes that they would be protected from this baby snatching demon called lilith.

Believing Everything That You Hear
by minimus inyou would think exjws would be on the lookout for anything said by people...the news media, politicians, actors that might sound suspicious or questionable.
it seems like some people just will never learn how to be discerning..

X, we should learn from our mistakes and wise up! - Minimus
Your op is saying some exJWs will never learn. Pure hubris, you're saying you have learned but other exJWs will never learn.

This Bible story is an example of the deep seated theist view that personal sacrifice is a good thing. Now we understand that the way we've evolved we need constant challenge and novelty because that's the way apes are, we get bored easily.
To translate that into the need to make our lives as hard as possible and give up our happiness for the sake of others or to appease a god is a misunderstanding of what we are.

Is this how you saw your Armageddon? I sure did :(
by Diogenesister ini think most of our imaginations of the new world was probably nothing like the watchtower reality.
after all, we jws are very good at avoiding uncomfortable truths!
you can tell micheal jackson was a certain type of jehovahs witness.

why would anyone care if I lied and said I didn't believe in Jehovah anymore, just to keep save them. Then I'd hear them talk about Shadrach Meshach and Abednego the Hebrew boys who stood firm and were thrown into the fiery furnace. I always wondered what happened to them after that. Surely they went on to live noteworthy lives
They didn't need to be mentioned again did they Pete, they'd already done their job of teaching vulnerable young minds we need to suffer for our faith. I'm sorry you had such fear as a child because of the threat of the great tribulation hanging over you and your sisters, that's awful.
I have often thought the same, why would anyone care if you said you didn't believe in God when questioned by potential torturers, just to stay safe? That mythical Bible story and similar ones have been responsible for the suffering and death of countless thousands of believers. Sickens me.

Should I do this?
by CivilServant79 inhi there this is my first post as i’m not sure what to do.
my family (both sides) are well known in our circuit and very dedicated to the truth.
but we’re relatively normal people and i love them all so much.

Can you be sure if you agree to meet up with your uncle for coffee there won't be another elder there? What do you do if you arrive and he says oh I invited (other elder) along, you don't mind do you? Then you're stuck not wanting to appear rude, offend a family member but faced with a pre-judicial 'fishing' meeting.

Hi Diogenesister, I think I saw the earth transformed, beautiful mountains, rivers, trees and animals. Just like the pictures in the literature! But I didn't imagine being anywhere near JWs especially elders because I was sick of the unpleasant people who just seemed to want to bite and tear at one another.
Basically I wanted to escape to the country! 😀 Just me, my lovely husband, a few animals and have some babies. What's so sad is that was completely doable without that damn religion and its fantasy world.

It's one way for stupid, uneducated people to feel superior to scientists. To feel they have knowledge beyond the lies they see the establishment is trying to fool them with. Very similar to religious cults.

'Spiritual food' and the global south
by john.prestor ini'm watching john cedars rebuttal of the annual meeting, and right at the start stephen lett starts going on and on about spiritual food, how nutritious it is, how filling it is, it comes across as weird but it doesn't help admittedly that the guy looks like bozo the clown forgot his act.
but the thought just came to me as i'm eating dinner.. not everybody gets dinner.
not everybody gets three meals a day.

I always think this about the drivel that comes out of the mouths of some people in first world countries to those in developing countries. Work hard and you will prosper, a positive mental attitude is the key, nobody ever died from hard work.
Rubbish, poor people have been working themselves to exhaustion for centuries but corrupt governments, poor nutrition and inadequate medical care kill them and their children.
They don't need platitudes from anyone, certainly not rich American GB members that never do a day's work and get treated like celebrities everywhere they go.
