Which songs give you goosebumps?
by LoveUniHateExams ini don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

Why don't you carry on phoning them once a week and assume that's what they meant by limited family business? If it isn't what they meant they'll have to tell you. As you want to keep contact with them why not do that? You don't have to talk about religion, you don't anyway I'm sure.
My siblings have shunned me for over thirty years, but if I want to contact them if I hear of a serious illness or a death I contact them. I'm not the one shunning, I'm not being obedient to a stupid cult. As your dad asks you not to phone immediately and talk about religion, fine, but why give up your weekly phone call? You're over fifty hears old, who you phone is your choice. Good luck, I know how hard this is believe me.

My BPD Sister Passed Away
by babygirl30 ini have started this, then restarted it, and it still sucks to even write this out - but my younger sister passed away unexpectedly last saturday (on my birthday).
i am going through all the grieving emotions, but there is more to the story that i could never and would never talk about to anyone that didn't understand the jw rhetoric.
so...here i am.. my sister has had borderline personality disorder (bpd) for as long as i can remember.

My sister in law has BPD. She's put my inlaws through hell. Dropping them from her life just as their son, my husband, died. She's even rejected her own child. She's been so cruel to them so I can relate a little.
You are going through the hell of raw grief. Just breathe and do the best you can. A cliche I know but take one day or one hour at a time. That feeling that they've just suddenly vanished off the face of the earth is hard! Hang in there. We're here if you want to vent more.

I understand that the OP is being ironic but I think JWs are unique in that people think they're harmless. They come to the door or stand at the carts smartly dressed and have a respectable look about them.
People think they're nuts but harmless. They don't connect them with cults that break up families and use young people as cheap labour. Even with years of kids dying for lack of a blood transfusion or even recent child abuse news. This is the most dangerous thing about them, they seem so benign and I think that is probably unique for a cult.

Has leaving made you racist
by Steel inso i use to go this hall that was basically 100 percent white and basically anyone under the age of 40 has either faded or makes a token effort to keep the peace at home, of course outside of the usual dregs of society .
the hall went from two congs to one and i was quite happy that in ten years they would be lights out.
then in the last two years about six young filipino families have moved in and three of them are newly baptized .

Is the Philippines a third world country? My daughter went to school and is still friends with a boy from the Philippines. He went to Oxford to study medicine and is a qualified doctor now.

Thanks Jan I was very upset. They are part of the family and family members are few and far between for exJWs aren't they?
It sounds like a fun comedy at The Garrick, have a lovely evening.

I enjoyed seeing my daughter Jan, thanks for asking. Unfortunately my cat died after going missing on the 23rd. When I buried him under my holly tree I turned round on my way back down the garden and noticed a robin hopping around looking for insects in the disturbed soil. I though yeah life goes on.
Have a lovely evening. I know Lichfield, my MIL lives near there. Are you going to the Garrick?

What Will Happen To President Trump In Your Opinion?
by minimus inhe has been “impeached “.
will he be convicted in the senate?
is he so “damaged goods” that he is ineffectual?

Will he be convicted in the Senate?
I doubt it, even the BBC here have said on many news items he's been impeached but it's unlikely he'll be convicted because it's a mainly Republican senate.

The festive period
by Farmer Jim1 inso having spent xmas day and boxing day on my own (which has actually been really enjoyable) it has given me time to reflect on how fortunate i am to be free of the jehovah’s witness cult!
i would previously been guilted into going door knocking on xmas day and would have been half heartedly preparing for a thursday night meeting/indoctrination session which i didn’t want to be at.
heres to all the folks still stuck in the cult that secretly want to leave - i’m thinking of you as i’m sure many others on this site are, and we’re all here to help you pick up the pieces when you eventually take the plunge and leave the abusive relationship that the cult has with you.. happy festive everyone and special thanks to those that supported me when i left..

Happy Christmas Farmer Jim1. I'm glad you've enjoyed your alone time. Yeah it's so great not to have to do FS on Christmas Day. Surprisingly some people were really nice to offering us sherry and mince pies. There are some lovely people around, Not having to drag yourself to a meeting this evening, freedom is sweet isn't it?

The Noble Fir

the fir tree stands silently in the corner of our living room: proud, erect, strong.
even unadorned, it is beautiful.
