What was it about Bethel that woke you up?
by cognisonance inone the how many exbethelites thread it was mentioned that some think one either leaves down the path towards apostasy or as a 100% true believer.
i'm curious what experiences did you face at bethel that woke you up (or started to at least)?.

life is too short- ouch- yep thats an awful story- I find your hudbands obedience to leaving you there alone the msot awful out of all of it.
Witnesses make themselves easy target for all sort fo violence, sadly.
question- how many bethels are there. I was suprised to read there is one in Canada- I thought itwas just NY- arent those the world headquarters.

Need Some Tough Love & Help
by Simon Morley innot sure how to approach this but here goes.....my wife discovered a porn site on the computer tonight.
yes, i was going to them, and i was foolish to think i could never get caught.
i have been visiting them for some years, not a daily problems, but occasionaly every month or so - still a problem wethere its once or a hundred times.

mrs. jones as always is the voice of reason here.
Listen Simon- on two counts:
I have been in the position of your daughter. My mom thought she was gonna get god knows what from me when she told me. My response to the news was- what kind, mom.
She didnt know.
Was dad a softcore playboy bunny, Bdsm kinda guy, full on pedo, I mean, so many things fall into the cateogory of porn. The thing is, mom got no sympathy from me. In fact I was angry at her for telling me. Most children try to ignore their parents sex life, knowing a detail like this is uncomfortable, and yes, none of my business. NONE OF YOUR DAUGHTERS CONCERN. Your wife drawing your daughter into this is a disrespect of her boundaries.
My Dad was an elder and you know, once you are of a certain age the word elder has no gleam. I did not idealize him. I kind of felt sorry for him that he had a porn habit. Their marriage was so silently f-ed up- I just felt sorry for them for being so self centered that they could not communcate. I believe I told my mom this was no big deal and she shouldnt take it personally.
Now, I am a bit of a libertine, but even I felt betrayed on finding porn on the computer I lent to my ex. Why- because he was sneaking it. He tried to cover it up and when I confronted it he denied it first until I said i knew with certainty what he had been doing. In this case, I was disturbed more by the sneaking and lying and the fact that we a rocky sex life. As it turned out, this wasnt the only thing he was sneaking- he had cheated on me multiple times. This is the case of porn indicating other problems and lies.
Watching porn with your partner can also introduce a sort of weird dynamic of self consciousness- so I am leaving it out of my marriage- although I do look at things on my own sometimes- and I dont view it was wrong, dirty, or a lie. My husband would smile if he knew what I was up to. That is healhty.
I would go to counseling ASAP. Why- because even though you are reaching out to us and people are offering your sound advice you are insisting on the same things- you are trapped in the shared reality between you and your wife. You need a neutral third person to set you both straight and ride this out. Your marriage doesnt need to end, DO NOT INVOLVE YOUR DAUGHTER. Spare her, for gods sake.

Aguest: THANK YOU FOR THIS MOMENT OF CLARITY in an otherwise worthless thread.
I think the best thing is that if one cannot tell a parent who is in such a situation what that parent wants/NEEDS to hear at a time like this (which could be either, the atheist POV or the "christian" POV... or none of these - what of any Jewish or other folks affected??)... one should just say something along the lines of:
"I am SO sorry! HOW can I help? Is there anything YOU need/anything I can do [for you]?"
Anything beyond that, regardless of one's faith, belief, religion, lack thereof, whatever... is not only unkind and unloving... it's absurd, even ridiculous.

Unlocking Phobia's in JW's - Steve Hassan's " Freedom of Mind " book
by flipper inmy wife and i finally finished steve hassan's latest book called " freedom of mind " so i wanted to devote one more thread to it in discussing how to recognize phobia's in witnesses or cult members and some methods hassan mentions to assist cult members.. on pg.
146 hassan states, " a cult phobia is a man-made mental illness that is an integral part of destructive influence.
a phobia is a persistent, irrational fear.

So, I had a thought about wicked spirits lately...
by sd-7 inthe whole reason i even got dragged into this jw stuff, and we didn't just become somebody's return visit they never came back on, is because my mom claimed that the demons were talking to her.
they told her that the jws knew the truth about them, so she called the local kingdom hall.
bible study was started, and that was that.

There is no God, but there are many gods, and many sub classes of other lesser entities, who like attention but really dont care about you unless you are invoking them or doing something. I am an athiest, but I see ghosts, and own divination methods which I use occasionally.
I would say the form above you was a real experience, I have had something similar myself, but why should a demon bother you- unless they smell fear like sharks smell blood. My good friend believes the Wt is actually the organization of a snake demon which you can feel when you sit in the KH. And why not.
