Wanted - A 'Reverse Witness'

so the want-to-be-jw wife is getting harder to keep from believing all the nonsense that the wt spouts.

it is really getting me down as it simply does not compute from my perspective (and many on here i suppose) how and why rational and sane individuals would swallow all the garbage... the phrase i hate the most is "imperfect men", it gets me so wound up when i point out the flip-flops and flaws, and then i ask how anyone would follow 'imperfect men'... up next is "but i truely believe they are god's chosen organisation", but i cannot find any basis for that belief whatsoever... arrgghhh.

she went to some big meeting last weekend and came back all happyified.

I agree with the subtle appoach.

Also advice to everyone: Blood policy is probably not the strongest argument these days. There are many non JWs and ex-JWs would refuse blood. The US army has been pioneering non blood surgery for the battlefield and there are numerous hospitals now that specialise in non-blood surgery. Here in the UK we get news stories every 3 or 4 years showing the results of studies that have found JWs to recovery quicker after heart surgery, cancer surgery etc. Yes the JW will be ready for your argument and will have plenty of secular evidence to back up and "prove" the witnesses were right all along.

If you must talkk about blood its probably better to concentrate in the flip flops over blood fractions etc rather than the "JWs would rather die than have a life saving blood transfusion" argument.

If 1914 is wrong then how is it that it was such a landmark year?

this is the question that came up in my mind.

now dont get me wrong i know the dates from 607 - 1914 are rubbish, but how would you explain to a witness when they will automatically say, look at the momentus year 1914 was.

that is evidence enough that 607 is correct!.

Before 1914 they thought the Napoleonic Wars signified the start of the end times. Even charles taze believed this (just reading "A People For His Name", which states this. Interesting stuff.)

(EDIT - "They": various religious figures, not JWs obviously)

we've all heard these experiences.. in fact, jehovah's witnesses are obsessed with them.

the pioneer who needed 80 to fix their car & somehow (without having told anyone .

now, if you believe that these sort of experiences are true, you are basically saying that god is actively arranging help for someone who is in need.

do you find yourself ignoring anything that jehovah's witnesses bring out in regards to their former status as an ngo?.

To think that the elders in my congregation refused an invitation from my local council to speak about JW beliefs in order to help staff understand religious diversity within the districts. Why? Because there would be speakers from other religions there too and they didnt want to be involved in "interfaith" lol. Completely missed a trick theree as it had nothing to do with interfaith. Perhaps if they had known about the NGO thing they might have thought about it. lol

1. mark 7:15 "there is nothing from outside a man that passes into him that can defile him; but the things that issue forth out of a man are the things that defile a man.. so how can eating black pudding or having a blood transfusion be a sin?.

2. roman 14:5 one [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as others; let each one be convinced in his own mind.

so how come they say birthdays and festivals are a sin?.

I remember going on the doors with a presentation from the KM based on James 1:13 to prove that Jehovah didnt cause bad things to happen. The householder was a baptist and proceeded to point out that that scripture was talking about temptation and that, besides, there were many biblical examples of god punishing people with bad events. That shut me up. I went home and checked my other bible translations and sure enough - definitely about temptation not natural disasters and the "trials of life" etc.

Another one is James 5:16 used in every JC but clearly talking about healing illnesses - not judicial matters.

If one was to take the bible as sole authority, there would be no problem with pedophilia since it doesnt condemn it. Not so for "men who lie with men". Where's the logic in that?!
