i posted my story here a week or so ago.
and i left something out that i was shy about sharing, but now i have changed my mind for 2 reasons.
1) i feel more comfortable here everyday and feel like i can say this 2) i keep reading posts by new people who struggling to adjust and i think this might help.. after i left the witnesses and got df'd i had nowhere to go, i wanted to kill myself because i was so alone and was no one to turn to.
Connie,
Thank you for sharing that with us and for your courage to bring it out. That really speaks highly of you and it shows that part of your life which was so difficult is now behind you. That is what I call a blessing. Over the years I have had witness friends commit suicide and it was so sad and we could not understand why, but we were blinded as to what they were really feeling. It is good that you went to a therapist. I remember on a couple of occasions when I was called on to 'counsel' married couples there were a couple of times where I encouraged them to seek professional help. There was nothing more we could do. I know more and more witnesses are secretly seeking professional help, they are realizing that the organization w/ all their meetings and going out 'more' in service is not a 'cure-all'. When my wife lived in Denver there was a 'brother' who was a therapist, and most of his patients were sisters. I know some of the elders frowned on it but the sisters continued going anyway. I agree that it is important to seek a good therapist who can help. Our family has gone to them in the past and it really cleared things up on some issues.
Thank you again for sharing that part of your life with us. More power to you!!

skeletons in the closet: catholics aren't the only ones with something to hide, is the name of the article in the april 25 issue of seattle weekly (a weekly news magazine).
it mainly discusses erica rodriguez' case and several mormon lawsuits.
bill bowen is quoted in the article as saying "our denomination is now where the catholic church was 20 years ago, right on the edge of a crisis.".
Thnx Mulan and Princess for the info... Keep 'em coming...
a first grade teacher collected well known proverbs.
she gave each child in her class the first half of a proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb.
their insight may surprise you.
Venice,
I am too tired to think right now... I give up... the first graders won..
over a week ago i shared that my husband was stepping down as an elder last wednesday.. well, for all those inquiring minds that want to know, my husband's efforts were a total bust.
first he talked to one elder who adamantly refused to accept his resignation.
he encouraged and demanded that he stay.
Hi Prisila
It all depends on what kind of fanfare you want for yourselves. If you want to fade away ** do not ** mention anything re. any beliefs or any books by Ray Franz esp to CO's. CO's have been instructed to watch for things like this. This for sure will bring on a judicial comm. The best thing for him to do is to write a letter of resignation and stick to it and slowly fade away. As you can see this might not be as easy as it seems, but make sure you give good 'biblical' reasons such as spiritual health for stepping down. Eventually they have to honor it. Good luck.

Welcome Decimus,
I am relatively new posting here myself, but have reading/lurking for a long time. Where in Florida are you at???
Hello Troubled,
Nice to see that you still post on this board. I still remember the post you put up right after 9/11 and the concern you had for people in the 'field'. We were touched by your concern. Unfortunately the confines of the organization do not allow most people to feel the way you do. My wife and I have been DF'd for 1 1/2 years now and back then we were trying for reinstatement (long story) and I remember the meeting right after and I told my wife to notice if anything in the concluding prayer is mentioned re. 9/11. Sure enough the 'brother' mentioned everything under the sun except the incident. The prayer seemed so rehearsed and so obvious but with no feeling. It did not surprise me. The fact that you are here shows that you see problems within. At one point we were where you are at but much research and personal exp. with committees and the Borg has helped us move on.
At any rate I hope you will continue to come here and share your ideas and thoughts. I can understand and relate to the feelings of some here and please don't take it personal. But I also realize that this is a JW discussion forum for anything JW related (not an attack on JW's) so keep on posting. It is everyones God given right to choose which religion is right for them whether we agree with it or not. Aren't we glad that God is the judge in the end!

after being disfellowshipped 2 years ago, i finally got up the courage to join this discussion board.
my story is short and sweet.
well not sweet but short.
Cici,
I am new to the board also. Welcome! Incredible! Did you try and appeal? If you denied it the committee should have taken that into account and at least given you the chance to take back what you supposedly wrote. But my exp. w/ committees is that there are some very stupid men out there. I used to serve on appeals committee for the Society and I found that most men were quick to judge and find you guilty instead of doing their homework and looking for the fruits that befit repentance. In my own personal committee meeting I even had to instruct the three elders as to the proper procedure to follow, seriously! Consider it their loss and not yours.
not only did i have the fortune of being raised a dub, but i also live in the heart of mormonism, good old slc.
my wife went to lds church today and says she is going to start going every week.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggghh.
tdogg,
I pioneered in Bountiful, Utah from from '86-'91 and I found the mormon people to be nice at the doors, but it was out of common courtesy since they have misionaries preaching as well. In my exp. and insight on the LDS church is that the three things that drive this religion is sex, money, and power, sometimes in that order. I consider them a cult and very decptive and hypocritical in their approach. Their members are decieved just as the Witnesses are. Do what you can to discourage your wife, but in the end it is her choice. Hang in there.
